Gahahahah! Welcome to my silly, silly stage! Here goes nothing, yah! Bo-woing! Gahahahah!
~ Tornado Tonion greets Zero prior to his fight.
We no control, yah? Can't stop, none of us. Please, please, save us... We becoming something else!
~ Tornado Tonion begs to be slain by X.

Tornado Tonion, originally known as Tornado Debonion (written alternatively as "Tornado Debonian"), is one of the eight Mavericks that is fought in Mega Man X7 infected with the Sigma Virus, courtesy of Sigma himself. Designed after an onion, he is the boss of the Radio Tower stage. His weapon, the Volt Tornado, allows him to generate an electrical whirlwind around his body. Upon getting his hands on the weapon, X can spawn a tornado that charges forwards. The tornado is strong and is the weakness of Splash Uofly.

He is voiced by Wataru Takagi in the Japanese version and by Jack Merluzzi in the English version.

Character[]

Personality[]

Tornado Tonion is a silly, obnoxious Repliroid. He loves performances and having fun, and is easily disappointed when someone points out that Tornado isn't entertaining. However, Tornado is well aware that his group has gone Maverick, which leads him to ask for his own demise when X arrives on the scene.

Physical Appearance[]

Tornado Debonion is a fat Repliroid who looks like an onion, with a green conical head that is apparently based on an onion sprout. He wears brown stretchy pants and has orange scales over his body, protecting him from attacks. His arms are largely invisible, with the exception of his hands, which have yellow, segmented fingers. He wears green boots.

His Weapon[]

Volt Tornadoes[]

Tornado Debonion wields Volt Tornadoes as his weapon. These electrified tornadoes zap anything in their way and cover a decent range. Both X and Axl can use this weapon.

Raijin Rise[]

Roll combines this with an upwards slice with the (deceased-at-the-time) Zero's Z-Saber. Her version has poor horizontal reach, but she goes higher. This technique is called "Raijin Rise", with "Raijin" literally meaning "Thunder God".

Biography[]

Tornado hijacked a radio tower putting obnoxious messages through the radiowaves. Upon being confronted, he fights against either X, Zero, or Axl (If it's X he's fighting, though, Tornado reveals he regrets being controlled by The Professor and requests that he is killed.) and a fight ensues, where Tornado supposedly meets his demise.

In order to damage Tonion, the player must first destroy his plates, which regenerate over time. Tonion attacks mainly by spinning around, creating an electrified tornado around his body. He can also remove his plates and spin them around the arena or create an advancing wall. His weakness is the Gaea Shield, presumably because stone can block electricity and winds.

Dialogues[]

Pre-battle Dialogue[]

Versus X or Roll[]

  • Tornado Debonion: "You be (X/Roll), hmm? I ask you favor, yes? Stop us... Stop Red, please, yah?"
  • X/Roll: "What?!"
  • Tornado Debonion: "It professor...professor redesign us... We no longer..."
  • X/Roll: "'Professor?!' Who the heck is that?"
  • Tornado Debonion: "We no control, yah? Can't stop, none of us. Please, please, save us..." (bends backwards) "We becoming something else!" (gets completely consumed by the virus)

Versus Axl[]

  • Tornado Debonion: (laughs) "Axl, you grow up handsome boy, yah! But I grow up handsomer boy, a-hah! Bo-woing!" (laughs again)
  • Axl: (chuckles) "You haven't changed a bit, buddy!"
  • Tornado Debonion: "So, you come up Electric Tower to stop broadcast of my groovy dance, hmm?"
  • Axl: (unamused) "Yup. If Red saw it, he'd get mad and smash the monitor, anyway." (Tornado Debonion leans back in shock.)

Trivia[]

  • Tornado is depicted with a pointed red nose in his artwork. This does not appear in the game.
  • Tornado's Japanese surname, Debonion, comes from the term "onion" and the Japanese adjective debu (fat; Hiragana でぶ and Katakana デブ).
