Torque is a supporting antagonist in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. He is a multi-eyed and multi-limbed convict known for his crimes of terrorism, smuggling, arson, and unpaid parking tickets.
He was voiced by Brad Garrett, who also portrayed Spike in Mighty Max, Joe Bulo in Fargo, Krang in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Tony Abado in Seinfeld, Earl Raymond in Recess, Uto in Tarzan II, The Giant in Hoodwinked Too, Ernst Strepfinger in Ozzy and Drix, Robert Otto in Amphibia, and Gary Munson in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
Appearance[]
Tall and broad-shouldered, Torque is a male alien of an unknown species possessing four arms, five eyes, and two legs. He has three thick fingers on each hand and stalk-like appendages on top of his head. He has strips of brown hair just below his mouth that may not even be hair. He is often seen wearing a cyclist's suit, with a red shirt, boots and a long brown coat.
Personality[]
Torque is tough, cunning and treacherous, while also behaving like a cyclist, committing crimes and riding technologically advanced motorcycle. His love of money is only matched by his love of chaos wherever he goes. Torque's speech is filled with fake endearing terms, such as calling most people "baby" or "honey".
The only people Torque seems to respect are clones of himself, whom he treats with genuine courtesy and respect.
Biography[]
Torque first appeared in the episode "The Torque Armada", when he was arrested by Team Lightyear. However, he was freed from a prison transport by Emperor Zurg's army of Hornets. Taken to Planet Z, he formed an alliance with Zurg to take down Team Lightyear. To that end, Zurg gets his Grubs to implant a cell-separation device upon his chest, giving him the ability to create duplicate versions of himself. With that in mind, Torque and his clones attempt to use the opportunity to get back at Team Lightyear by trapping them and setting cargo ships with fusion cells into Capital Planet. Fortunately, Mira uses her power to free herself and her team, and they manages to turn the ships around using traffic posts, much to Zurg's anger. Buzz then gets a group of Space Ranger to take down Torque and his clones and haul them away to prison, much to Torque's anger.
Torque returned in the episode "The Taking of PC-7", where he was escorted to a prison planet called PC-7 by Booster and XR while the Galactic President makes a personal visit. However, Torque broke free of his restraints and takes Booster, the warden, and the Galactic President hostage. He briefly turns Booster evil with a memory-altering device built by the warden, in order to lure Buzz into the prison so that he can turn Buzz evil with the same device. Eventually, XR manages to get the device to briefly turn Torque into a good guy before turning Buzz back to normal, leaving Torque to remain in prison.
Powers & Abilities[]
Although Torque is good at fighting, he prefers to use a gun when committing his crimes. Thanks to his four arms, he can use four weapons at once. He is also adept at driving vehicles, most commonly motorcycles capable of space travel.
After being freed from prison transport by Zurg, Grubs implanted a cell-splitting device into his chest, allowing him to replicate himself and create countless identical clones. However, these clones are unstable and are easily destroyed with a single hit from any weapon. The clone device also makes it easier to identify the real Torque, indicating that the device cannot replicate itself.
