The Trabe are a hostile species introduced in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Alliances".

History

At some point in their history, the Trabe had conquered another race known as the Kazon, and forced them to become slaves. The Kazon were forced to live in squalor while their masters lived in luxury. The Trabe encouraged the inter sect fighting in order to distract the Kazon from rising up against their masters.

Others - such as the Talaxians - considered the Trabe to be highly cultured. The Trabe kept their enslavement of the Kazon a secret so some did not even know about how they were oppressing the Kazon. Still others who did know kept quiet as to not jeopardize their trade relationships with the Trabe.

In 2346 the Kazon united under the banner of Jal Sankur. Under his leadership the Kazon were able to end their enslavement, and forced the Trabe to flee their homeworld. The Trabe were unable to find permanent homes anywhere they went, and forced to live a nomadic existence. Even so, they did not lose their desire to seek revenge on the Kazon in the years that followed.

When the USS Voyager encountered the Trabe in 2372, the Trabe leader Mabus told Captain Janeway that all the Trabe who oppressed the Kazon were either dead or very old, that he and other survivors were only children at the time, and their children were innocent. He agreed to a peace conference mediated by Janeway with the Kazon leaders as way of getting them all in one place so he could kill them.

During the peace conference one of his ships attacked the conference site, but were driven off by Voyager. Furious over the betrayal of her trust, Janeway ordered Mabus off her ship.
