“ | This pathetic attempt to entrap me is beneath you, Betty. And if you did catch me, then what? Would you lay down your sword, move into a house with a white picket fence and a red door with your handsome, all-American boyfriend in this sleepy, quiet town. Do you think that's how this ends? [...] No, Betty. It ends with you and me and a kiss in the dark. | „ |
~ TBK to Betty |
Trash Bag Killer, more commonly known as TBK, is a minor antagonist in Season 5 and one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Twyla Twist) of Season 6 of CW's Riverdale. He is a serial killer whom Betty Cooper encountered during her training in the FBI.
He was portrayed by Doug Chapman.
Biography[]
Background[]
When Betty Cooper first started working in the FBI as a trainee after her high school graduation, she was assigned to catch a serial killer known as "Trash Bag Killer" who's been on the run from the FBI for years. However, Betty ended up trapped in a well for two weeks while being forced to listen to TBK cruelly threatening her as his prisoner. TBK eventually develops a liking in Betty and lets her out of the well, but threatens to kill her unless she dismembers a body he killed earlier to prove her loyalty to him. Betty dismembers the body and escapes from TBK, having not seen him since.
Return to Riverdale[]
When Betty returned to Riverdale, she started having nightmares about her encounter with the Trash Bag Killer. Things took a turn for the worse when her sister Polly disappeared along with other girls who wandered off on the Lonely Highway, leading Betty to worry that TBK might have killed her. Betty would later use TBK's threats to interrogate a trucker presumed to be the Highway Killer. Finally, TBK calls Betty to congratulate her on her graduation from the FBI, calling her "Pretty Betty".
He later kills Glen Scott - Betty's ex-boyfriend from the FBI - by breaking into his car and suffocating him to death with a plastic bag. He then cuts off Glen's body parts to pieces and mails his foot to Betty to let her know he killed Glen. He handcuffed Betty while she was asleep and gloats that he'll go after her current boyfriend, Archie Andrews. He later sends a man dressed as TBK to deliver a message to Betty at Sketch Alley, telling her to check a nearby garbage can where he dumped the rest of Glen's body. He then disguised himself as a contruction worker named Dennis at Andrews Construction, where he knocks Archie out with a hammer and hancuffs him next to a piece of palladium that weakens Archie's invulnerblity. He then reveals he's been spying on Archie and Betty for a while and knows about their recently developed superpowers as well as their weaknesses. Fortunately, Archie calls his dog over to save him and the dog defenstrates TBK forcing him to escape.
Slaughter-Con and Death[]
In an attempt to lure TBK out of hiding, Betty decides to host a three-day serial killer convention called "Slaughter-Con" at the Babylonium hoping TBK will attend. On the second day of the convention, Betty sits down for a one-on-one interview with her mother Alice in front of the entire convention about why serial killers wear masks. Suddenly, TBK calls Alice's show and accuses Betty of wearing a mask that hides her true face after dismembering the body at his behest. He then asks where she imagines her relationship with Archie will lead her, sarcastically asking if after catching him she will lay down her sword and move into a big white fence with Archie because he personally believes their story will end with them kissing in the dark. He later attends Kevin's performance at Slaughter-Con that night, but leaves when he witnesses Betty tackle an imposter dressed as him for the performance.
On the third and final night of Slaughter-Con, TBK breaks into the Cooper house, kills an FBI agent and ties up Alice and Betty's half-brother Charles with plastic bags over their heads. Betty sees TBK in her bedroom across the window from Archie's house and finds him waiting for her in the garage, where he arranged a romantic candlelit dinner for them and even made a paper mask for Betty that resembles his own. He tells Betty to put the mask on and proposes that they kill her mother and brother together while gloating that Betty is just like him. Betty refuses and kills him using her father's gun, insisting she's nothing like him.
Personality[]
TBK is a ruthless serial killer who likes to torture his victims by killing them in the places he uses as a hideout across the country. While he seemed to care for Betty, even helping her out of the well when he could have left her to die, his care for her went too far and became an unhealthy obsession since he has no qualms against cruelly taunting her and trying to have her to himself. Furthermore, he's a hypocrite since he killed Glen for sexually harrassing Betty but still treats Betty with lecherous intent himself.
Trivia[]
- TBK shares a lot of similarities with Hal Cooper:
- Both are serial killers who wear masks to conceal their identities.
- Both are connected to Betty in a way (Hal is Betty's father while Betty was assigned to catch TBK).
- Both negatively affected Betty and were personal enemies to her.
- Both tried to corrupt Betty into being a serial killer herself and even taunted her about their "similarities".
- Both died trying to pressure Betty to kill them in an ultimatum.
- However, while Betty does kill TBK, Hal was instead killed by Penelope Blossom after Betty refused to kill him and only shot his fingers to disarm him.
