The Order of Tree Sentinels, or simply the Tree Sentinels, are minor antagonists and recurring optional boss fights in the 2022 action role-playing epic dark fantasy video game Elden Ring and its 2024 DLC expansion Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
They are an order of golden-armored knights who are the sworn protectors of the Erdtree.
Overview[]
Tree Sentinels are dedicated to protect the Erdtree as its guardians. Considered to be its living rampart, they served as an inspiration for the knights of the royal capital of Leyndell. After Leyndell was attacked by the Ancient Dragon Gransax, some of the Tree Sentinels began to emulate Gransax's kind. In order to provide more appropriate and better protection to the Erdtree, they began wielding weapons, shields, and armor that are whittled from the claws of the dragons and imbued with their red lightning. Ever since, the sentinels wielding these special weaponry are referred to as Draconic Tree Sentinels, who are more powerful than their original counterparts.
Types of Tree Sentinels[]
Greatshield[]
These Tree Sentinels are known to carry large circular golden shields and a halberd. Their special shields have the ability to dispel sorceries and counter with a golden beam that deals holy damage to the players. Greatshield Sentinels can be found in Altus Plateau and Limgrave.
Torch[]
They wield a halberd as the greatshield-wielding Tree Sentinels do, but instead of carrying a shield, they carry a torch which they use to deal fire damage. They can only be found in Altus Plateau.
Draconic Tree Sentinels[]

These special Tree Sentinels wear golden dragon-based armor and they wield red lightning-imbued weaponry as well as draconic magic. Their colossal weapon, called Dragon Greatclaws, is capable of drawing electrical energy and deal great amounts of damage. One can be encountered in the Capital Outskirts and can be found again in the Crumbling Farum Azula.
