~ Cante Jondo of the Three Sisters. |
Tres Angustias are supporting antagonists and a boss in the indie game Blasphemous. They are the guards of the Holy Wound of Contrition.
Various item descriptions and dialogue suggest Tres Angustias to represent the three sisters who were cursed into becoming Altasgracias, serving as a physical manifestation of their anguish.
Biography[]
Long ago, there lived three sisters who were due to be wedded that had no intentions to partake marriage. As such, the three sisters prayed to the Miracle for aid. The High Wills answered their prayers and gave the women beards. However, their beards would overtake the three and envelop them into an egg formed of hair. The sisters would merge into a singular being called Altasgracias, a feminine giant with three conjoined heads and a knotted tongue.
Sometime after Altasgracias was doomed, the Miracle created physical manifestation of her anguish, becoming Tres Angustias, the three anguishes. They became the source of triune moans heard all the way from Jondo, echoing off the great bell. If the Penitent One destroys two statues holding chains supporting the bell before ringing it, it collapses, opening the way to Grievance Ascends.
At the end of the area, the Penitent One confronts Tres Angustias, three levitating figures holding a bludgeon and two lances. During their battle, the arena endlessly moves vertically upwards with the lower portion bursting to flames, making it important for the Penitent One to continuously scale the platforms as falling into the fire causes instant death. The three figures attack by shooting their weapons at the Penitent One; the lances will shoot at lightning speed at the Penitent One's current location while the bludgeon fires in a boomerang style around the figure using it. Eventually, the three will merge into a giant figure, who will unleash a magical giant laser which covers a third of the arena. After one or two lasers, the three will unmerge and the cycle restarts.
As they lose health, Tres Angustias will act more aggressively, with the figures shooting out their weapons at a faster rate. For the last fifth of their health pool, the figures will remain in their merged form until the last of their health is depleted. Once down, Tres Angustias moves to the center of the arena and reverts to three. The three figures scream before bursting into flames. The Penitent One is then granted access to the Holy Wound of Contrition.
Appearance[]
Tres Angusias resemble women wearing dresses and long pointed cone hats. Their entire bodies are teal in color. When merged, they share a similar body type albeit larger in size, only there are now three hats, with two to the side twisting around the center. Jumbled blue entrails can be seen emerging beneath the skirt, resembling plant roots.
