Background[]
Trevor's background is uncertain and often suspect, given that all players ever hear of it is from Trevor himself - hardly a reliable source. All indications are that he was born in Canada, though Trevor's notable insecurity about his origins means that he can only refer to his birthplace as "the Canadian border region of America", and immediately flies into a rage if anyone even slightly implies that he is Canadian. He claims to have grown up in "five states, two countries (presumably America and Canada), fourteen different homes, three care homes, two correctional facilities", and from a very early age exhibited anger management problems.
By all accounts, he had a dysfunctional home life, with both parents abusive towards him in some respect; at one point, one of his parents went so far as to abandon him at a shopping mall (later burned down by Trevor in an act of petty revenge). Despite this abusive treatment, even to this day, Trevor regards his mother with a mixture of fear and adoration; he also tends to lose his temper if anyone refers to him as a "motherf-cker", implying that he possesses something akin to an Oedipus complex that Trevor himself is openly trying to deny. Trevor had a little brother named Ryan, and it is implied that he murdered him when they were young. He also mentions having a cousin who worked in a carnival.
After numerous offenses (including sodomizing his coach with a hockey stick), Trevor reportedly dropped out of school. Eventually, he found that he had a talent for piloting aircraft, and in an attempt to put his skills to use and satisfy his violent impulses, he enlisted in the US Air Force in the hopes of one day being able to drop "The Bomb". However, though his abilities as a pilot were undeniable, Trevor's mental instability eventually got him discharged from flight school before he could earn his wings - an act he attributes to "an evil witch in charge of psychological evaluations".
Disheartened by the loss of his dream job, Trevor spent the next few years drifting aimlessly across the border, occasionally committing petty crimes but never with any distinct goal. However, this all changed when Trevor met Michael Townley while escorting illegal cargo, and - after killing a potential attacker and burying his burning corpse in a shallow grave - the two became friends. From here, Trevor delved deep into the lifestyle of a career criminal: after his first heist of a cash-checking business went wrong thanks to the clerk knowing him (and after Trevor was finished serving four months of a 6-month sentence), he began committing regular robberies and holdups with Michael's aid, immediately establishing himself as a brutal contrast to his partner's more rational approach.
However, Michael eventually married a local stripper by the name of Amanda and started a family; though Amanda regarded Trevor with considerable suspicion and dislike, she allowed him to become something of an honorary uncle to her two children, Tracey and Jimmy. Surprisingly, Trevor took to this role quite readily and became fiercely protective of Michael's children, especially Tracey, loving her as if she was his daughter. However, Michael became increasingly reluctant to continue a life of crime, unwilling to subject his new family to the heartbreak of his being jailed or killed. Trevor noticed this, and the relationship between the two began to sour; eventually, he befriended another prospective criminal by the name of Brad Snider - who he later intended to adopt as his full-time partner in crime if and when he and Michael parted ways.
In the end, Michael's growing reluctance eventually led him to cut a deal with FIB agent Dave Norton, agreeing to hand over Trevor throughout one last bank robbery - in exchange for a new life. However, the North Yankton job quickly went wrong: though Michael was able to successfully fake his death with Norton's help, the attempt to kill Trevor failed when Brad wandered into Norton's line of fire, fatally wounding him and giving the most notorious of the bank robbers a chance to escape. Believing that Michael had died, a grieving Trevor drifted into obscurity, while evading police attention for several years - and eventually settling in a trailer park at Sandy Shores, San Andreas. Trevor then formed his own drug operation called 'Trevor Philips Enterprises'. Leading it along with his friends Ron Jakowski, Wade Hebert, Chef, and redneck associates of theirs, they started by producing meth in Ace's Liquor store, and selling it to the local gangs and rednecks in the state.
Before the events of Grand Theft Auto V, Trevor and Ron hired a few criminals to steal drug shipments from rival gangs, such as the Koreans, Vagos, Ballas, Lost MC, and the O'Neil brothers for profit. He pays off the protagonists with a sizable reward after they help to defend and sell these drugs, only to be confronted with a police sting. After escaping, Trevor laments his own loss, as by fleeing he was forced to leave behind the truck containing his fortune.
Events of GTA V[]
Trevor is introduced in current timeline by having sex with Ashley Butler in his trailer. During which, he sees the interview of the news report of Michael and Franklin's robbery of the jewelry store in Los Santos. After the witness repeats what Michael said to him, Trevor realizes that Michael faked his death and is still alive. When Johnny Klebitz asked him to avoid Ashley, Trevor became furious and stomped Johnny to death.
Realizing that the Lost MC will do everything to avenge him, Trevor decided to destroy the Lost MC first. He, alongside Ron and Wade, launches an attack on their headquarters, and manages to kill all of them. He then attacks Azteca leader Ortega, running his trailer into the river. Trevor then orders Wade to trace Michael Townley at all means. As he waits, Trevor and Ron make arrangements of expanding their operations into the weapons trade. They take over the lost's airstrip and purchase gunrunner Oscar Guzman's field hangar. They begin using these businesses for weapons smuggling. He then attempts to establish a distribution deal with the Chinese triads. However, Ortega and his remaining men attack during the deal at Ace's Liquor, and Trevor is forced to fight back along with Chef. It ends with Ortega and all his men dead. As a result, the triads cancel their deal with Trevor, and establish a new deal with the O'Neil brothers. Trevor is angered by this, and attacks the leader of the triads eldest son, and goes to the O'Neil's farm, killing alot of them, and burning their house to the ground.
Trevor then learns from Wade that Michael and his family are living in Los Santos under a different last name. They both then set off for Los Santis, leaving Ron in charge of the operation. After stopping at the Lost Headquarters and killing the remaining bikers there, they drive to Los Santos and crash with Wade's cousin Floyd.
After getting reacquainted with Michael, and meeting his friend Franklin, Trevor then begins planning to steal a secret cargo from the militia organization Merryweather. After gaining their help, the heist is a success, though he is forced to return the cargo by Lester.
Trevor, Michael, and Franklin then start carrying out secret missions for corrupt FIB agents Steve Haines and Dave Norton, as well as dirty businessman Devin Weston. However, after carrying out an important job for cartel boss Martin Madrazo, Trevor attacks Madrazo and kidnaps his wife Patricia, as he was attracted to her and felt angry by the way Madrazo mistreated her. Trevor and Michael were forced to flee Los Santos to Sandy Shores, as Madrazo had his men on the lookout for both of them. However Madrazo's actions to send his men to attack the two if they are in Los Santos caused Devin's heist to be on hold and also been discovered by Franklin and Lester who planned to put an end to it and the two could get back to Los Santos.
During their stay at Sandy Shores, Trevor, Michael, Franklin, and Lester planned and carried out a bank heist in Paleto Bay to fund a job they were doing for the FIB. After the job is done with Lester finally called off Madrazo's men to attack the two it they are in Los Santos, Trevor is forced to return Patricia to Martin, which he is devastated by. After returning to Los Santos, Trevor gets into an arguement with Floyd and his girlfriend Debra who returned from her trip, which leaves both of them dead. Trevor and Wade then move into the Vanilla Unicorn strip club, which he takes over after killing its original owner.
Trevor, Michael, Franklin, and Lester then begin planning to rob the Union Depository bank, which was a dream heist of him and Michael. However, Trevor pieces together that Brad was most likely dead and buried in Michael's grave at North Yankton. He then flies to North Yankton, pursued by Michael, and discovers Brad’s corpse in Michael's grave. He then aims his gun at Michael, but flees when the triads shows up, looking for payback for Trevor attacking Mr. Cheng's son. They kidnap Michael and hold him for ransom, assuming him to be Trevor's lover. Trevor refuses to come help Michael, but Franklin eventually saves him.
Trevor eventually decides to put his anger aside and convinces Michael that they should move forward with the Union Depository heist. Michael has them move forward with his faster after Devin sends Merryweather after his family. The heist is a success, and they escape with $200 million. Franklin is then approached by both Devin and Steve, who each respectively ask him to kill Michael and Trevor. The player then can choose 3 options.

In this ending, Franklin agrees to eliminate Trevor. He later sets up a meeting with Trevor.
Upon Trevor's arrival, he initially assumes Franklin is trying to help him and Michael reconcile. Trevor outright states that he refuses to forgive him but might consider it when the heat dies down. However, Franklin then pulls a gun on Trevor, claiming that Trevor will only get them killed. Trevor is shocked and appalled at Franklin’s decision to kill him, saying that he’s been nothing but honest with him. Franklin acknowledges this and apologizes, but says that the truth isn’t what he’s interested in. Feeling betrayed again, Trevor retreats into his truck and drives off with Franklin in hot pursuit.
GTA 5 - FINAL MISSION 1 - Ending A - Something Sensible
The chase soon leads the two to the oil fields, where Michael arrives on the scene and rams Trevor's truck into an gas tanker, causing gasoline to spill all over Trevor. He stumbles out of his truck and begins furiously ranting about how not only Michael betrayed him, but also Franklin. He then dares the two to shoot him, where Franklin unsheathes his gun and shoots Trevor, setting him on fire and causing the gas tanker to explode seconds later. Alternatively, if Franklin hesitates to shoot him, Michael will raise his own gun and shoot Trevor instead, resulting in the same outcome. Franklin and Michael soon leave the scene on less than good terms and dissolve their crime partnership completely.
Afterwards, Lester hears that Trevor has "fallen off the grid" and shares his cut of the heist between Franklin and Michael. At some point Michael will email Franklin, saying that they did what they had to do and should move on while confirming that they're still friends, which Franklin thanks him for. However, upon meeting Michael again, he will greet Franklin with hostility and blame him for making the call to kill Trevor, leaving their relationship greatly strained. Ron also becomes aware of Trevor's death and sends Michael an angry email, knowing that he was involved, Michael treats it as spam and tells Ron not to contact him again.
The Time's Come[]
| “ | Trevor: Well, I can't! You're turning on him? I've had enough traitors in my life! Franklin: Man, your a** could say thank you. S**t. Trevor: You deserve each other. |

In this final mission, Franklin decides to kill Michael instead of Trevor and calls the latter for assistance. At first, Trevor is confused by Franklin’s proposition but after realizing that he is turning on Michael he refuses to have any part in it and furiously declares that he has had enough traitors in his life. Franklin berates Trevor that he could at least be grateful for choosing to spare him, but Trevor says that he and Michael deserve each other before hanging up.
After Franklin kills Michael, Lester informs the other two that Michael is gone, for real this time, and hopes that neither of them were involved. Lester gives Michael’s cut of the heist to his family, claiming that it felt like the right thing to do. Trevor then emails Franklin questioning him if he did it. Franklin tries to lie, saying that it was Devin Weston or one of his men, but Trevor sees through this and severs all ties with Franklin, telling the latter that he is dead to him. Jimmy also calls Trevor in tears and grief over his father's death, Trevor has trouble comforting him due to his experience with his own father (or lack of thereof), but tells Jimmy to send his best to Amanda.
The Third Way[]
| “ | Michael: No, see. But we know your opinions on the matter, Devin. Keep your problems the f**k out of America, huh? Trevor: In this instance, when he puts it like that, it makes sense. |

In this final mission, Franklin decides that he cannot kill either Michael or Trevor, and instead turns to their accomplice Lester Crest for advice on how to deal with the situation. Lester manages to concoct a scheme where he will lead both the FIB and Merryweather to a foundry, where Franklin, Michael and Trevor will allegedly be melting down the gold from the Union Depository heist; in reality, both sides will be falling into a trap where they will be ambushed by the trio. After the trio kill all the FIB and Merryweather units sent to kill them, Trevor, Michael and Franklin decide to finish several of their enemies, namely Devin Weston, Steve Haines, Wei Cheng, and Stretch, for good; Trevor suggests also killing Dave Norton, but Michael shoots him down, saying that they will need Norton alive to ensure that nobody else comes after them afterward. Trevor snipes Haines while the latter is filming an episode of his reality TV show, The Underbelly of Paradise, then abducts Weston at his mansion after eliminating all Merryweather mercenaries guarding him. Trevor then meets up with Michael and Franklin and taunts Devin with the two. The three then push Devin's Tornado down the cliff, killing him in the ensuing explosion. They decide to cease their professional relationship but remain friends, and Trevor returns to his trailer on foot while Michael and Franklin drive away.
Afterward, Trevor and Michael make amends and repair their friendship, with both agreeing that Brad was a "dick", and Trevor admits to Franklin that he probably would have killed him somewhere down the line had he survived.
After the Events of GTA V[]
Ron Jakowski mentions he had become a lifestyle coach and a guru in the Smuggler's Run DLC, which was released and set in 2017, which, combined with Tao Cheng's recalling of almost being killed at the Pacific Bluffs Country Club in the Diamond Casino & Resort DLC (released and set in 2019), leads to the confirmation that leaving him alive, specifically by Franklin's choice of Option C, is the canonical ending of Grand Theft Auto V. By 2022, most of Trevor's businesses lie abandoned, with the Fooliganz gang now running his old meth lab and warehouse. Ron also mentions that Trevor no longer lives in Sandy Shores.
