Trigger Taylor is a minor antagonist in the Absolute Martian Manhunter comic book series.
He is a paranoid, conspiracy theorist that believes humanity is flooded with aliens pretending to be human. Influenced by an entity known as The White Martian, he decides to act on his beliefs violently, becoming a mass shooter.
Biography[]
Trigger Taylor was a conspiracy theorist focused on the existence and actions of aliens. He lived with his parents in the city of Middleton. One day, an entity started to enter his thoughts and heignten his paranoia, eventually leading to him fully believing 99% of humankind had been replaced by aliens of some kind, and going on a killing spree to eliminate them.
His first victims were his parents, shot to death in his own house. Taylor then observed his alien murals and posters before strapping his rifle and going to an immigrant niehgbourhood. His reasons to especifically target an immigrant community seems to be because of their accent, which Taylor describes as the human lengauge coming out "wrong", thus "evidence" they're aliens.
He started shooting down multiple people, before Agent John Johnes interefed. With the Martian's mind reading powers, John finds out about his life and pretends to be his first grade best friend Tommy, buying time for the Martian to mess with his mind and find the problem causing his madness. While Taylor isn't fully convinced and pulls his weapon on "Tommy" as he believes him to be another alien, The Martian discovers the White Martian within Taylor's memories and brain. It disables Taylor's "bad idea" that caused him to becoem a crazy paranoid, immediatelly making Taylor confused, as if waking up from a dream, and horrified with the carnage he made.
However, before the Martian can further trace down the problem and has just discovered the White Martian's existence, a police officer, against Johnes' orders, shoots Taylor in the forehead, causing him to fall lifeless on the ground.
Trivia[]
- Though many people believe him to be a character made for the Absolute Universe, as Martian Manhunter has a severely more limited roster of characters to adapt compared to his fellow protagonists, Trigger Taylor actually exists in the comics, having first appeared alongside Martian Manhunter himself.
- Ironically, while Taylor believed most humans he intereacted with were actually aliens, he himself was a human serving as a puppet for an extra-terrestrial entity.
