And now, "New God". Let's see who shall rule. And who shall serve!
„
~ Trigon to Darkseid when fighting.
“
What a wonderful gift, daughter. Be well.
„
~ Trigon's farewell to Raven and an extremely rare moment of kindness from him.
He is an extremely powerful inter-dimensional demonic entity and conqueror of worlds, and the father of Raven (as well as her archenemy) including his sons.
In Justice League vs. Teen Titans, he was voiced by Jon Bernthal, who also played Al Capone in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Shane Walsh in The Walking Dead, Grady "Coon-Ass" Travis in Fury, The Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil and The Punisher, Braxton in The Accountant, Cole D. Walker in Ghost Recon video games and Johnny Boy Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark. In Justice League DARK: Apokolips War, he was voiced by John DiMaggio, who also voiced King Shark in the same film, The Joker in Batman: Under the Red Hood, Dr. Drakken in Kim Possible, and Bender Bending Rodriguez in Futurama
One day, a rebellious and gullible young woman joined a Satanic cult and was selected to take part in an ancient ritual to bind her to the Devil in marriage. The rite worked and Trigon appeared to them as a mortal man. The woman lay with him but learned who he truly was and he raped her. She fled from the cult and went on the run.
She was approached by people from the interdimensional realm of Azarath and given a new start. There as Arella, she raised her and Trigon's daughter, Raven. Raven didn't fit in and thought if she found out more about her father, she would be able to make more sense of herself. Instead, she accidentally brought Trigon to Azarath. Trigon destroyed Azarath and killed its residents then took Raven back with him to his realm, a hellish universe.
However, Trigon desired Earth but needed a powerful conduit to open Earth to his control. Since Raven was half-human, she could serve as that conduit. Trigon underestimated Raven's magic and was trapped inside a crystal. Raven sealed the crystal within a floating structure that only she could open. Raven wanted a home and went to Earth. She was taken in by Starfire at the Titans Tower. Without asking, Raven placed a protective spell on all the Titans to prevent Trigon from corrupting them. Trigon sent his sons and his other creations the Corruptors, to Earth in search of the means to his rising, Raven and the Infernal Shrine.
While the possessed Superman unearthed the shrine 60 miles north of Kahndaq City in the Middle East, the others found Raven at a carnival and told her to go to the hill beyond the tent. Trigon made contact and declared it was their destiny to be together because they were family. He implored her to bring him to Earth. She refused and vowed to fight him at every step. The self-declared Sons of Trigon opened fire on her.
“
We were meant to be together. Always. And we shall.
„
~ Trigon.
Trigon mocked her for letting herself become weak and lonely and aligning with chattel. He found it beneath his contempt and vowed she would know his glory. The other Teen Titans joined her in battle until she eventually used her soul self to destroys the Sons. Raven teleported the Titans to Azarath to shield themselves from Trigon and reveal her origins to them. They returned to the Tower but the Justice League arrived and wanted to take Raven into their custody. Robin objected but the stand-off was interrupted by the Corruptors, who possessed the League.
They threatened to kill the Titans but Raven agreed to go to the Infernal Shrine. Raven flew to the shrine and powered it. 24 hours later, Cyborg and the Titans implemented their plans and freed Superman of Corruptor control. He then freed Wonder Woman and the Flash but they were too late. The shrine generated a massive portal and Trigon emerged from it. He marched towards Kahndaq City. Raven knew the only way stop him was get the crystal from his realm.
Wonder Woman, Superman, and the Flash attacked Trigon with boulders and their strength but it did little to deter Trigon. He didn't acknowledge them and continued to Kahndaq. Not even Superman's heat vision could stop him. He lay waste to the city, projecting energy blasts from his eyes, as the League continued in vain to try and fight back. Trigon reached out to Raven and promised to strip the flesh from the bones of the Justice League then her friends. He vowed Earth and all the souls on it would soon belong to him.
“
Give up. You're too weak to stop me, Raven. You always have been. Just like your mother.
„
~ Trigon arrogantly and cruelly dismissing his daughter's efforts to beat him
Trigon continued to insist that Raven give up because she was weak like her mother, Arella. Raven countered that her only weakness was loving him and hoping he would love her in return. Raven declared she found friends she would give her life for, friends who gave her the love and strength to stop him again. Raven chose a shard of the crystal and asked Azarath for her strength to contain Trigon. Raven's soul self crossed over to Kahndaq City and enveloped Trigon. Trigon attempted to fight back but he was pulled back to his realm into the shard. Trigon was irate and vowed it would never be over. He would keep trying to escape.
Raven elected to stay in Trigon's realm and watch over the shard. It would be her home. Robin quoted Robert Frost and convinced Raven home was with the Titans on Earth. Raven wore the shard on her forehead like a chakra. In a way, they were together as he wanted. Trigon screamed for his release and vowed to get out and kill everyone she loved. Raven continued to ignore him and partied with Cyborg and the other Titans on pizza night.
When Raven and Blue Beetle have a sparring session, it resulted in her defeat. Raven noted that her father raged from within the astral prison, as he found her loss an insult to him, however, Raven mused that she was amused to upset him.
When fighting Brother Blood, who had been empowered by stolen abilities, Raven used some of her father's demonic essence to cast a spell that purged the powers from Blood, leaving him helpless and defeated.
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War[]
“
Impudent daughter. If you die, I am trapped in this hell! Free me. Remember what I told you: release me or I will kill the boy.
„
~ Trigon bargaining for an escape by threatening Raven's one weakness, her affection for Damian Wayne.
Despite his imprisonment in the gem's astral realm, Trigon was able to begin weakening the bonds, so was able to increase his torment of Raven, who struggles in keeping Trigon at bay inside of her, endlessly draining her power and stamina. Darkseid had knowledge of Superman's attack plan due to access through Cyborg's Apokoliptan technology, thus the New God foiled the attack, and launched a counterattack against the Earth, which killed most of the world's heroes and allowed Darkseid to conquer the planet.
Survivors of the Teen Titans, Raven and Damian Wayne part ways, as he went to lead the League of Assassins, with her refusing out of fear Trigon breaking loose and killing Damian. Left alone, Raven almost committed suicide to prevent the apocalypse becoming worse through her father, although she was prevented by a de-powered Clark Kent, who became her adopted father.
During the 2 years after Darkseid's attack, Earth was left mostly desolate with over half of the people killed. From the drain by Trigon, Raven's health had become withered to the point that she couldn't use her powers, except in tiny bursts, as other times causes her immense pain and fatigue. When Clark and Raven are attempting to recruit Damian in a plan to break Batman's brainwashing, Raven noted that even awful parents still care about their children, thus during Trigon's attempts to escape, her empathic power made her sense that there was a small sliver of the demon that did hold fondness for her.
While Raven was having a private conversation with Damian Wayne, she reveals that Trigon wishes to kill him, wanting to strip Raven of anything or anyone that brings her joy, which is why she chose not to accompany him to the League of Assassins. As Raven continues to use her powers, she is left in weaker and weaker states due to her internal conflict with Trigon.
When the resistance force attacks LexCorp Tower, Lex Luthor in his battle suit hurts Damian in the process, making Raven momentarily lose control and a portion of Trigon emerges - which destroys Luthor's suit and almost ends the latter's life until but Clark Kent's words help her regain control.
Later during the Apokolips raid, Raven clears out a booby trapped hallway with her powers, and when Damian checks on her, Trigon briefly emerges to declare that he will kill Damian before being subdued by Raven completely, whom awkwardly noted that was her father.
“
I will kill you, boy!
„
~ Trigon threatening Damian
Later on, when Damian Wayne is seemingly killed by Darkseid at his fortress, Raven breaks into despair, losing control of her powers, which allowed Trigon to be freed from his astral prison. John Constantine undergoes his plan of using his magic to deal with Trigon, keeping him in a state where his bondage is not completely broken, but he is still on the outside of Raven's body. Constantine offers Trigon his own sorcerer body as a host, but Trigon exclaims that he has a better idea; he instead uses Clark Kent's body as a host, restoring and augmenting the Kryptonian powers, and swiftly snaps Constantine's neck afterwards, killing him. Having taken over Superman's body and getting rid of the liquid Kryptonite that left him de-powered, Trigon turns his attention to Darkseid, interested in fighting him to see how powerful a New God is. The two begin fighting as Trigon quickly gains the upper hand, telling Darkseid that he is not impressed with him.
After the death of Lois Lane on Earth, Clark Kent's reaction forces Trigon out of his body and the hero regains control - thereby causing Trigon's essence (in the form of smoke with four red lights of his eyes) to get trapped inside an energy sphere created by Darkseid's omega beam. While Superman fights Darkseid afterwards, Cyborg hatches a plan of transporting Darkseid and his forces into a black void, but the heroes refuse to leave Superman behind despite Darkseid needing to be distracted for it to work. Constantine and Raven hatch the idea of using Trigon, combining their magic to grant Trigon a physical form, and Trigon takes over the fight with Darkseid, ordering Superman to leave unless he wants to "fight for the right to destroy" Darkseid.
“
So, you are one of the so-called "New Gods". I am unimpressed.
„
~ Trigon to Darkseid
Trigon and Darkseid resume their battle, initially on equal footing, but with Trigon gaining the upper hand quickly, determined to defeat Darkseid and gain his position as top in the universe. Before Raven is transported to Earth by Cyborg, Trigon thanks her for this gift and tells her to be well; Raven acknowledges this and says goodbye to her father. Darkseid tries to escape before he is pulled into the black void, but Trigon (while laughing) pulls him inside along with himself - becoming trapped there for all eternity along with Cyborg, still fused with Apokolips, and all the Paradooms as a result.
Powers and Abilities[]
Old God Physiology:
Immortality: Trigon is older than known time and space, and exists even if it ended.
Invulnerability: Trigon is completely immune to any damage, whether it be kinetic, scientific, magical, or superhuman. Even powerhouses like Superman only momentarily delay him, but like a strong wind, rather than a damaging attack.
Regeneration: Even if any damage is inflicted upon him, he can heal instantly.
Super Strength: His strength has no known limits, as he can match the likes of Superman and Darkseid.
Energy Blasts: From his eyes or hands, he can project destructive energy that destroys matter and can hurt even the strongest members of the Justice League.
Shapeshifting: He is able to assume the form of any species, at least the bipedal kind.
Size Alteration: Trigon can shrink to the size of a tall human man, and can grow to be as tall as skyscrapers, and may have greater potential growth.
Flight: He is able to fly through willpower alone.
Interdimensional Travel (Situational): Trigon is able to traverse into different dimensions, however, for certain realms, he requires a conduit to allow him proper access, since he enters a spiritual state without one.
Universal Genetic Compatibility: He is able to procreate with any sapient race.
Summoning: He can be summoned into any realm, but only remains for a limited time, hence the need to create a conduit for permanent presence.
Omniscience
Asexual Spawning: He can create man-sized sons in his image, which can interact within any realm. They can regenerate from any injury, however, they have a limited power supply, with their mere existence draining their energy, and fatal damage draining more; once their power had been drained, they cease to exist.
Multiple Possession: Through created Corruptors, Trigon is able to possess numerous targets simultaneously, managing to control them perfectly independent or together.
Will Manifestation: He can conjure his mind to influence alternate dimensions, which is to compensate for his tangible inability until a conduit is made. If pre-existing rituals don't exist, he used this power to instruct how he can be summoned.
Demon Spawn: Trigon can create demonic creatures that act as defenders of his home realm. Their intelligence is animalistic, but they are born like white blood cells that attack invaders.
Demonic Terraforming: He is able to magically alter terrain to become identical to his hellish home realm.
Telepathy: He can psychically communicate across limitless distances.
Complete Possession: His spiritual form, if unleashed, can possess a vessel, during which he is able to use the vessel's existing powers and augment them with his own.
Eternal Life Endowment: Trigon created the Lazarus Pits, which allow limitless restoration for an individual to return to their prime, also healing all wounds; although, the Pit always causes an episode of mania upon healing, and repeated use erodes a person's morality, and enhances their negative elements - which can happen from just one use, too. An already deceased body can be revived, however, it would be left with minimal if no intelligence and high risk of violent insanity.
Master Combatant
Weaknesses[]
Containment Spell: An imprisonment spell is capable of trapping him within a pocket dimension that exists inside a magic crystal. This is only a temporary solution, since Trigon is able to exert his power to weaken the bonds and gradually drain the life force of the one who guards the gem.
Death of Containment Vessel: When he is trapped in the astral prison, the individual maintaining the spell can be die via total cellular death and bodily obliteration, which would result in Trigon being imprisoned in the astral dimension forever. Although, even a simple death of the vessel could keep Trigon trapped for eons, even if not eternally.
His Own Power: Should a biological child of his rebel, they can overpower him to keep him banished from a selected dimension. Though, this is similarly a limited solution, as he can either work to overpower his child or wait for their death to sire a fresh one.
Being Incorporeal: If he is released without a conduit or vessel, he remains in an intangible state. While he is still indestructible, he is essentially helpless until acquiring a new vessel or receiving a new corporeal body. His soul form can also be trapped by an energy bubble made by a New God.
This version can take on a shadow form to possess others, a trait he uses to manipulate the Justice League into attacking the Teen Titans and capture his daughter Raven. He is also revealed by Ra's al Ghul to have created the Lazarus Pits.
This version of Trigon uncharacteristically performed a good deed for the heroes at the end of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War by saving Superman from Darkseid and preventing him from escaping when both were transported into an empty dimension via Boom-Tube. He also told Raven to be well whilst bidding her goodbye, without expressing so much as a hint of sarcasm or malice.
Since Trigon values power and betrayal, perhaps his hatred over being outwitted by Raven grew into a sense of admiration for her own strength as she kept him contained for years, and she eventually acquired a new level of magic that wasn't owed to his influence. Him "saving" Superman was more out of his own ego, as he did threaten Superman to stand aside as Trigon personally wanted to vanquish Darkseid. Another possibly concurrent option is that, as a demon, Trigon enjoys violence, and Darkseid would be the strongest entity he had ever faced, therefore it would be gift to Trigon to fight such a challenge.
