The Troobian Empire was an intergalactic empire who served as the main antagonists of Power Rangers SPD.
History[]
Past[]
The exact origins are the Troobian Empire are never actually explained with the most known about it being that Omni was the founder. It is entirely possible that it was an off-shoot of the Armada from Power Rangers Super Megaforce. Emperor Gruumm was seemingly the absolute ruler but was in actuality just the figurehead with a gigantic brain named Omni being the main antagonist.
Omni (usually referred to as just The Magnificence) sent Gruumm on an intergalactic mission to conquer various planets across the universe and strip them of thier resources to build him a massive body. Said body was designed to be so powerful that it could singlehandidly destroy planets which would allow Omni to conquer the universe.
At least 25 years before the events of the series, the Troobian Empire invaded the planet of Sirius and came into conflict with the fledgling paramilitary police force, Space Patrol Delta. However, the army of Krybots (led by a cybernetic psychopath named General Benaag) was able to annihilate the forces with sheer numbers and apparently kill Commander Anubis "Doggy" Cruger's wife Isinia Cruger. With the Sirians pretty much extinct, Doggy being the apparent sole surviving member of the species, the Troobians went on thier way.
Once and Always[]
The Troobian Empire was giving Space Patrol Alpha officers Aisha and Adam (former Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) a lot of trouble at the time Robo Rita was active in 2023.
SPD[]
In 2025, Gruumm stripped the planet Alandria in the Hive Quadrant of it's resources and obliterated it before moving on to attack Earth although this was picked up on from Earth. By then, the Earth has been inhabited by thousands of alien and Doggy Cruger has established a new intergalactic version of Space Patrol Delta and created at least two divisions of Power Rangers. Doggy sent his A-Squad Power Rangers to the Quadrant to investigate the destruction with the thin blue line being represented by four individuals making up the B-Squad Power Rangers.
Realizing that they needed a Proton Accelerator to make it to Earth in any reasonable amount of time, Gruumm enlisted the services of the intergalactic arm merchant Broodwing and brought an army of Krybots to use. Gruumm subsequently sent down a Blue-Headed Krybot but it was driven off by the B-Squad and wanted fugitives Jack Landers and Elizabeth "Z" Delgado.
Enraged, Gruumm smashed the Krybot into a microchip and remade it into a new Krybot who went to retrieve it again. Although this version was successfully able to overwhelm the four Rangers (now joined by Z as the SPD Yellow Ranger) but Jack arrived and morphed into the SPD Red Ranger, quickly managing to destroy the Krybot with his Delta Blasters Combo Mode. Unfortunately for SPD, Gruumm was able to supposedly annihilate the A-Squad and wipe them out in thier base which left the B-Squad the sole defenders of Earth. Gruumm was later able to steal diamonds during an attack by Ringbah and synthesise them to power the engines and open a black hole to get to Earth.
As the series went on, Gruumm's relationship with Broodwing worsened over time since he quickly started to refuse to pay Broodwing with the "motivation" to help Gruumm being "help me or die." Eventually, after the attack from the first Dragoul, Broodwing broke with the Troobian Empire entirely and started his own schemes. After the attack and subsequent capture of Delex, the B-Squad found that the A-Squad were still alive and had escaped in an escape pod at which point the B-Squad were completely sidelined by Doggy in favour of thier more experienced counterparts.
However, the A-Squad then revealed that they had defected to the Troobian Empire and captured Doggy who then learnt that Isinia was alive and had long been help captive by Gruumm. The A-Squad later attacked the B-Squad at which point they were captured too whilst Broodwing attacked the Delta Base with an army of Krybots and four monsters, managing to conquer it to destroy the city with the Delta Command Megazord. However, the B-Squad Rangers broke free and managed to capture both the A-Squad and Broodwing although at the cost of the Delta Squad Megazord.
Unfortunately, whilst SPD was still dealing with the Krybot attack, Gruumm transformed the Terror Spacecraft into his new giant body and tortured the humans with sonic blasts from his staff. Meanwhile, Cruger escaped his cell on Gruumm's ship and the two engaged each other which ended with Gruumm supposedly dropping out of Omhi's knee to his apparent death. Below, the SWAT Megazord engaged Omni whilst Kat Manx led a counterattack to destroy the Krybots with the aid of some reinforcements from the offworld SPD Headquarters.
Although Omni easily defeated the SWAT Megazord, Doggy opened a hatch in his knee and a massive beam from the Megazord's blasters hitting the panel made Omni implode. Although Doggy and Isinia were presumed dead in the explosion, they had somehow managed to make it out of the body just in time. However, Emperor Gruumm had also managed to survive and challenged his nemesis in one final battle, only to lose and have his other horn cut off before being imprisoned.
With Omni dead and Gruumm in prison, any last remnants of the Troobian Empire almost certainly collapsed in on themselves and the Troobian Empire is no more.
Trivia[]
- The Troobian Empire was a concept exclusive to Power Rangers. In Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, the monsters used by the Troobian Empire were usually a bunch of un-associated criminals (with the given name Alienizers as a blanket term for the worst criminals of them all). The only real linking factor between them was that pretty much all of them bought thier weapons from Agent Abrella (who was adapted into Broodwing who became the secondary antagonist of SPD and not the main antagonist like in Dekaranger).
- The most likely reason for this change was to make things significantly less complicated.
- In Dekaranger, any Alienizer found guilty of a serious crime was "deleted" (killed) whereas they were caught in Containment Cards in Power Rangers S.P.D. (Containment Cards essentially being other dimensional cells small enough that a few hundred fit in a filing cabinet).
- The most likely reason for this change was because the U.S. has a lot of problems with police brutality and excessive force so the writing staff probably decided that wouldn't go over well.
- Since their threat came two years after the defeat of Squid Ink Inc, the Troobian Empire serve as the chronological last villains faced in the original continuity.
