The Troublemeyer Family (AKA "The XOX Family") is an evil family from the Teletoon animated series, Sidekick. They are a lineage of supervillains, who all undergo the alter-ego of "XOX" to carry out their villainous legacy. However, there is some disconnect between two of the generations, regarding a conflict of interest, as Xenior XOX wants to destroy the world, while his son, Master XOX simply wants to take over the world, which creates some serious family drama among the Troublemeyers.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Although the exact origin of The XOX Family hasn't been known yet, it can be inferred that there are at least four generations of XOXs, as indicated by a line from Master XOX in "Maxum Men", where he said that he was "XOX, son of XOX, grandson of ... oh, well you get the idea." This suggests that there is a "Great-Grandfather Troublemeyer", who has never been seen in the show. Whether he was the original XOX or not still remains ambiguous.

Nonetheless, The Troublemeyer Family had a member at some point in time, who initially came up with the idea of being e-vile and gave himself the title of "The Original XOX". Since then, the XOXs have carried about their legacy of promoting e-vile and bringing about terror and disarray throughout all of Splittsboro.

Family Disconnect[]

In the 1970's, Grandpa Troublemeyer was the acting XOX and was known to all as "Xenior XOX". There, he would have countless bouts with The Maxum Men, a superhero duo composed of two people who are now known as Maxum Man and Maxum Brain.

Xenior XOX had the son, Martin Troublemeyer, who he tortured, abused, and traumatized on the regular, trying to mold him into the ideal supervillain to carry on his legacy. Martin would try his best to be the worst but would always come up short and fail to earn his father's approval. Xenior XOX saw his son as a lost cause

Martin could eventually go on to embrace his true villainy and cultivate the alter-ego, Master XOX, which he'd use to carry out several e-vile plans all around Splittsboro. However, even then, he and his father still didn't get along, mostly because of a disagreement they had, in regards to what their ultimate goal should be. While Xenior XOX had the ultimate goal of destroying the world, Master XOX had the ultimate goal of taking over the world. This falling out was the key factor in Martin losing respect for his father and going his own way in life, no longer worrying about earning his approval.

Current Life[]

In the events of the show, Xenior XOX is retired and living at the Heroic Pines Retirement Home, while Master XOX is the currently acting XOX. Master XOX is also the father of Trevor Troublemeyer. However, XOX goes back to his regular persona of Martin Troublemeyer when around Trevor, so that his son won't know about his family's evil lineage for the time being. Martin's plan is to teach Trevor about villainy when he feels the time is right.

Martin and Trevor live as heroes on the good side of town, with the former sending the latter to attend Sidekick Academy and train to be a superhero sidekick. This is for the purposes of infiltrating the good guys' society and taking them down from the inside. He wants his son to believe that he's actually a good guy. Although it's not clear why he does this, it's either because he's worried Trevor might rebel against him like he did to his own dad or so that he won't try to rebel against his dad or accidentally blow his own cover by admitting to being a villain.

In the series finale, "Graduation Daze", Martin, already posing as XOX, underwent another layer of disguise, when he posed as a superhero named "Not E-Vile Guy", who summoned Trevor to be his sidekick. It can be implied that this would have been Martin/XOX's way of tricking Trevor into being evil, under the guise that he was being good. Unfortunately, Eric destroyed everyone's diplomas, meaning that all the sidekicks had to restart Sidekick Academy all over again, including Trevor, putting XOX's plans on indefinite hiatus.

Trivia[]

  • The last name "Troublemeyer" is a pun on the term "Troublemaker", signifying their villainous alter-egos.
  • None of the female spouses are present in the lives of any of the Troublemeyer men. However, we have seen women who possibly could have been them on screen at one point;
    • In "Alien Transformation", we saw a young Martin Troublemeyer get married to an unnamed woman. This was presumably the mother of Trevor. Since this all took place before Trevor was born, it's not unlikely she was his real mother. Her present-day absence has never been explained.
    • In "Maxum Men", a flashback to the 1980's saw a young Xenior XOX hitting on a woman who looked strikingly similar to Trevor, just as a woman. This could possible have been the mother of Martin, if not for the fact that Martin was already born at this time.
