The Cookie you knew is no more. For he has fallen deeper than the deepest abyss.
~ Truthless Recluse

Truthless Recluse was a minor antagonist in Cookie Run: Kingdom, he was an NPC introduced in the Spire of Shadows update. He is revealed to be the true identity of Fortune Teller Cookie, battling GingerBrave and his group at the top of the Spire of Deceit and serving as the final Boss of World Exploration: Beast-Yeast's Spire of Shadows. He is in fact Pure Vanilla Cookie himself, under the guise of a fallen version of himself after suffering through Shadow Milk Cookie's plot.

Like Pure Vanilla Cookie, he is voiced by Kim Ye-rim in Korean, Maaya Uchida in Japanese, Mu Xuanming in Taiwanese, and Yuri Lowenthal in English.

Appearance[]

Truthless Recluse is a Cookie who has slightly messier and longer hair than his original form,  Pure Vanilla Cookie. His eyes are blue and yellow, both halfway covered by dark shadows under his upper lashes. There are also thin white lashes under his eyes. He has a light blue, four-pointed star on his forehead.

The top of his triangular hat is black with faint golden dots, and the bottom is reminiscent of a crown, but fades from black to navy blue and has a golden edge. He wears a long, spiky black cloak with a golden rim and golden lines with small dots along them, as well as a navy blue shawl with a gold key design in the middle and the same spiky golden edge as his hat. Beneath the cloak and shawl is a black dress with a spiky golden rim along the sleeves' edges. His staff, too, turned dark: it is completely black, save for a blue center and three glowing eyes.

Personality[]

Having seemingly broken down for good, Pure Vanilla Cookie took on a new identity, the Truthless Recluse, which became a complete antithesis of the optimistic, nurturing and wise Ancient hero.

The Truthless Recluse was silent, dismissive and apathetic, rarely showing any emotion or displayed concern over anything. However, this shadow of Pure Vanilla Cookie still contained some vestiges of his original personality in him, such as his will to protect his friends and his own Soul Jam. Once it was clear Shadow Milk Cookie wanted the Soul Jam at any cost, as well as just torture him for his own amusement, the Truthless Recluse decided to willingly embrace Deceit in his own way.

Often times, Truthless Recluse does lash out a lot in the story, mostly at Shadow Milk Cookie. Unlike his good counterpart however, he isn't as calm as patient when he was 'angry'.

Biography[]

Pure Vanilla was tortured by Shadow Milk Cookie through mind alteration. Using the SoulJam against him, Shadow Milk had altered Pure Vanilla's memories that made Pure Vanilla's conviction question it and even question his own identity till he doesn't remember his name. Shadow Milk Cookie has made sure Pure Vanilla Cookie was far and isolated from Gingerbrave and friends so no external force can pull him out like before in their first introduction. Having been broken down, Pure Vanilla gave up and succumbed to the darkness of Deceit and became Truthless Recluse.

Relationship[]

Shadow Milk Cookie[]

The relationship between Truthless Recluse and Shadow Milk Cookie was one-sided. Shadow Milk Cookie had claimed he wanted a 'puppet' but later revealed in the story, he wanted a 'friend'. The only one who truly understood him is his other half, Pure Vanilla Cookie. But Shadow Milk has too much pride as a former scholar himself to switch sides. Instead, he decided to make Pure Vanilla join his. He knows his other half wouldn't join willingly so he broke him. Truthless Recluse doesn't seem affectionate or friendly to Shadow Milk like other depicted broken former hero in media, the same goes for being too cold. This fits with the definition of 'recluse'.

It's implied Shadow Milk had a personal room just for Truthless Recluse in the Spire of Deceit's castle.

Black Sapphire Cookie & Candy Apple Cookie[]

Much is unknown how Truthless Recluse interacted with them due to Shadow Milk holding him too close. But to both, they are tolerable but wary to Truthless Recluse.

To Black Sapphire, he's suspicious of Truthless Recluse out of concern of Shadow Milk Cookie. He thinks Truthless Recluse might pull something to defeat them.

To Candy Apple, she too is the same as Black Sapphire but only filled with envy. She is depicted as a 'fangirl' to Shadow Milk Cookie, naturally she would get envious at Truthless Recluse, who Master Shadow Milk hold so closely.
