Appearance[]
Tsukuyomi no Mikoto is a God with the appearance of a tall, muscular young man with short hair at the back but long at the front, covering his eyes and exceeding his chin in length, although only on the right side of his face does the length cover his face. He wears a long toga, open on the right side of the body and closed at the waist by a belt, and boots. He wears a necklace with ornaments and two large crescent-shaped earrings.
Personality[]
Tsukuyomi no Mikoto is a very uncompromising God who cares about the status of Gods, and considers it unacceptable or crazy that a God would want to learn something from Humans, also believing that it undermines the dignity of the Gods and be dishonorable. He considers all Gods crazy who want to learn from Humans, including his siblings. Tsukuyomi is also a God who gets angry very easily, and does not accept reason even after knowing the reasons that push Gods to carry out certain actions that damage their dignity. Tsukuyomi always obeys the orders of his superiors, like the Shinto God of Creation Izanagi, his father, and his older sister Amaterasu Okami.
Despite his younger brother's attitude which he finds irritating, Tsukuyomi still loves Susano'o no Mikoto, to the point of supporting him during his match in the Ragnarok Tournament and to worry if he were seriously injured, although he hates that he resorts to the techniques learned from the Humans during the match. Nevertheless, during his younger brother's final moments, Tsukuyomi couldn't withstand the thought of Susano'o to lose and die, encouraging to attack once more, before death could reach him. Unlike Amaterasu and Izanagi, who mourned silently, Tsukuyomi took the death of Susano'o to such a negative extent. He was crying, showcasing once more how much he cared for and loved his brother.
Biography[]
Tsukuyomi no Mikoto is the Shinto God of the Moon, created together with his older sister Amaterasu Okami and his younger brother Susano'o no Mikoto as one of the Three Noble Gods by the Shinto God of Creation Izanagi, who given orders to rule the world, entrusting Tsukuyomi with command of the Ocean.
Many years later, when Susano'o no Mikoto discovers the art of swordsmanship from Humans, he returns to Takamagahara and warns his siblings Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu that he wants to learn it, only to be immediately accused by both of them to go against the rules of the Gods. Then when Susano'o decides to abandon the Three Noble Gods due to the opposition of his two siblings, Tsukuyomi still opposes, but in the end Amaterasu agrees to allow him to learn the art of swordsmanship from Humans without being taught it personally, but banishing him forever from Takamagahara for having damaged the dignity of the Gods. Susano'o accepts Amaterasu's decision without problem.
Millennia later, during the Ragnarok Tournament, Tsukuyomi sits in the stands, in a place of honor, together with Amaterasu and Izanagi to watch the Tenth Round, during which Susano'o faces Soji Okita. In the end Susano'o is defeated and killed by Okita, which leaves Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu and Izanagi in sadness and despair.
Powers and Abilities[]
Overall Abilities: Being the Shinto God of the Moon, Tsukuyomi is one of the strongest Shinto Gods of all, second only to Izanagi and his siblings Susano'o no Mikoto and Amaterasu Okami. As a God, Tsukuyomi possesses physical abilities far superior to those of any ordinary Human. His body cannot be damaged by mortal weapons, however it can still be damaged by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons. For the same reason, Tsukuyomi is unable to die due to old age.
Hydrokinesis: As the Shinto God who rules over the Ocean, Tsukuyomi is likely capable of controlling water.
Trivia[]
- The name Tsukuyomi is a combination of the Japanese words for "moon, month" (tsuki) and "read, count" (yomu). Another interpretation is that the name is a combination of "moonlit night" (Tsukiyo) and a verb meaning "to watch" (miru). A further interpretation is that the Kanji for the word "bow" (弓, yumi) has been confused with the kanji for "yomi". "Yomi" could also refer to the Japanese underworld, although this interpretation is implausible.
