~ Tuvul threatening the colonists of the Zariman Ten Zero. |
Executor Tuvul is an overarching antagonist in the MMO third-person shooter Warframe.
He was a member of the Council of Seven, the judicial body in the Orokin Empire, and the patron of the colony ship Zariman Ten Zero. Tuvul's handling and eventual abandonment of the fated catastrophe aboard the Zariman Ten Zero's maiden voyage to the Tau System unintentionally aided in the creation of the Tenno, which would eventually cause the downfall of the empire.
He is voiced by Sean Joseph Perry.
Appearance[]
Being long dead during the events of the game, Tuvul's appearance can only be traced by the statues built in his honor and his hologram messages to the Zariman colonists.
Like the other members of the Orokin Executor caste, Tuvul had an elongated right arm and likely had the same greyish-blue skin. His head was adorned with a crown and a golden fake beard, similar to the ones used by Egyptian pharaohs. He wore a luxurious toga and golden arm rings.
Personality[]
As a member of the ruling caste in the Orokin Empire, Tuvul greatly enjoyed the divine standing of the Seven and had the arrogance to match. He openly compared himself and the rest of the Seven to the colonists as being above them like mountains to ants.
Initially supportive and encouraging to the citizens aboard the Zariman Ten Zero, as morale declined and worry spread so did Tuvul become progressively more cruel. When addressing the worries of his people Tuvul claimed to understand that is natural to be afraid when considering the monumental task ahead of them, but in the same breath also told them to hold their tongue as to not "infect others with [their] shameful misgivings". As the situation aboard the ship worsened Tuvul began to punish the colonists for squandering the generosity of the Seven and eventually abandoned them completely, showing that all he truly cared about were results.
Similarly, the only reason why he opposed the execution of Archimedian Perintol was because he was curious if his solution could be the answer they were looking for, never showing concern for the scientist himself. When the Tenno finally rebelled against the Orokin, Tuvul was the last surviving member of the Yuvan Clerisy and he attempted to perform Continuity on an Operator.
Biography[]
Creation of the Sentients[]
Tuvul was first mentioned being present at the trial of Archimedian Perintol. The Orokin Empire was failing as they had expanded as far as they could and exhausted their resources. The Tau System was found to be an adequate candidate for colonization, but there was still uncertainty to how it could be terraformed to sustain life. Like all other Orokin scientists Perintol had attempted to create a solution to this problem, but Executor Ballas deemed his creation an abomination warranting the death sentence.
Before Perintol was incinerated where he stood, he shouted at the Seven for failing to see the merits of his solution. Tuvul was the first to speak out in Perintol's favor as his prototype machine seemed harmless enough. Ballas scoffed and demanded the biomechanical creature be shot, after which it healed from its wounds and a piece that had broken off of it formed a new creature, both now resilient to the ammo used against it. Tuvul and the others began to vote against Perintol, but he challenged the council once again, comparing their fear of his creation to the discovery and fear of fire. Ballas stated that their laws were sacred and his appeal had been denied, but Tuvul interrupted him.
Tuvul pointed to their precarious situation and asked Perintol how his creations could accomplish the task that so many others had failed to do. When Perintol explained that their adaptive abilities would allow them to overcome the harsh conditions on Tau while they perform their terraforming duty, Tuvul asked how they could be certain that they wouldn't turn against them as their laws predicted. Perintol assured him that the machines would be stranded on Tau and couldn't return to the Origin System, since he designed them with a flaw that made the Void poisonous to them. They could not return without killing themselves.
With this knowledge and the fact that no other solution bore promise, the council accepted Perintol's appeal, much to Ballas' frustration. Ballas himself congratulated Perintol after the trial however and was pleased with how the trial turned out, revealing he had manipulated Tuvul and the rest of the council into approving the project that would eventually create the Sentients.
Voyage of the Zariman[]
The Orokin were confident that the Sentients had completed their task and so day of the great voyage to Tau drew near. One of the greatest ships of the Orokin era, the Zariman Ten Zero, was constructed to bring the first interstellar colony of the empire. Executor Tuvul himself was the patron of the voyage and made all the arrangements for the colonists. After the civilians had boarded the ship and prepared for the day of the jump to Tau, Tuvul communicated with the ship primarily through holographic messages.
As the day of the jump grew near, Tuvul began to remind the colonists of where their loyalties lie. Initially he presented himself as sympathetic to their situation, but grew increasingly frustrated as morale on the Zariman diminished. He was insulted by the fears of the colonists, equating it to disobedience and imposed restrictions upon them as punishment, such as limiting meals to one per day. It is still uncertain whether this happened before the Void jump accident that left the Zariman stranded inside the Void, where as all hell broke loose, or before it, but eventually Tuvul's patience reached its end. He openly threatened the families of the colonists that remained in the Origin System. Finally, Tuvul had enough and declared that the Seven would wash their hands of the affair, expressing great disappointment with how things turned out. He declared the Zariman project to be no more, abandoning the people on the ship to their fates.
This decision led to the Hell aboard the Zariman to worsen. By the time the Orokin bothered to try and recover what they could from the Zariman, only the children had survived, altered by the Void and traumatized from having to kill their own feral parents to survive. The children became known as the Tenno, their powers the basis for the most successful super soldier program the Orokin Empire ever saw, yet ultimately also caused its final downfall.
Voruna's Leverian[]
As revealed in the history of the Warframe Voruna, Tuvul was not only the patron of the Zariman Ten Zero but also the head of the Yuvan Clerisy, conductors of the life-extending ritual known as Continuity. Inside the Yuvarium temples, the old and decrepit Orokin nobles would gather to select a new young body from the Yuvan, slaves bred for the specific purpose of serving as vessels for their Orokin masters. The minds of the Yuvan were torn apart completely by childhood trauma and regrets, making room for the consciousness of the Orokin to take their place.
The rebellion of the Tenno was swift and brutal. The Tenno had changed the tides of the losing war against the Sentients, putting an end to the long conflict. Celebration of their victory was cut short however, as the Tenno themselves turned against their masters in the middle of the ceremony held in their honor. During the massacre, Tuvul was the last surviving member of the Yuvan Clerisy, knowing he was pursued like the others he fled to Lua, Earth's moon, to attempt to conduct a Continuity on an Operator placed in cryosleep.
His time was limited however, as the former Tenno bodyguard of the Yuvarium on Lua was in hot pursuit of him. Lua's strong connection to the Void aided in the success of the ceremony, but also made it vulnerable from the dangers of that metaphysical realm. Voruna and her pack of wolves tried to kill Tuvul before he could start the ceremony, but they were too late. As he uttered the incantations from a grimoire created by the mad Albrecht Entrati, a horde of Void manifestations appeared and attacked Voruna.
Although terrified by everything that was going on, Tuvul continued the ritual as Voruna and her pack attempted to fight their way through to him, the Void manifestations seemingly trying to protect Tuvul. One by one her beloved companions fell, filling Voruna with grief and rage. She cut off the heads of her fallen wolves, but the ritual was nearly completed when she finally made it to Tuvul. When ritual had reached its peak the Operator's eyes fluttered and Voruna staggered. Tuvul took the opportunity and reached for the bowl of energized Kuva, but Voruna shoved him aside and took it for herself. She doused herself and her fallen packmates in the liquid and became one with them.
Tuvul tried to flee, only to be completely torn apart by Voruna's fury. The only thing that was found of him were gnawed bones and the shredded remains of his white-gold robe.
