A two-headed dog (hence the name) that guards the Underworld. Medusa unleashes Twinbellows during an assault on a human city, using magic to super-size the bicephalous puppy. But, for Pit, the louder they bark, the harder they fall.

~ Twinbellows' idol description.
Twinbellows the Ferocious is a supporting antagonist in the Kid Icarus series. The guard dog for the Underworld Army, Medusa often orders it to do tasks for the army, putting it into conflict with Pit.
Twinbellows is a two-headed canine-esque creature with dark red fur, green glowing eyes, and a mane made of fire. A rib cage-like structure protrudes from its back, spewing more flames from its funnels. Twinbellows is adorned in metal chains and two spiked collars.
Back in the original game, Twinbellows lacked the bones and the metal, and its fur was a bright pink.
Biography[]
Kid Icarus[]
Twinbellows made its debut in the original Kid Icarus game, serving as the boss in the Underworld's fortress. Having been entrusted with one of the Three Sacred Treasures by Medusa, it guarded its casket deep within the fortress. After Pit entered the entrance and traverses through the complex, he finds Twinbellows waiting at the end.
During its fight, Twinbellows will advance towards the left side of the room, shooting out occasional waves of fireballs. Should it reach the left wall, Twinbellows will rush back to the right side of the room and repeat the process.
Pit defeats the beast, obtaining the sacred treasure it guarded.
Kid Icarus: Uprising[]
Twinbellows returns in the very first chapter of Kid Icarus: Uprising. After Medusa makes her grand return, she launches her attack on "That One Town", prompting Palutena to send in Pit in order to deal with the chaos.
After landing and clearing out the grounded forces, Pit gets closer to the center of town, only for Twinbellows, completely engulfed in flame, to rush past the angel and beat him there, making its place in the arena that towers over the living space. Palutena urges Pit to rush over to fight the beast, to which he does.
During its fight, Twinbellows has two main methods of attacking, its claws or its fire, the latter of which also having two variations. When using its fire, it can either breathe out a jet of flames or shoot out volleys of fireballs. When physically striking, Twinbellows will lunge itself towards Pit multiple times before tiring itself out. As with last time, Pit defeats the beast and stops the invasion.
Alongside Pandora and Hewdraw, a copy of Twinbellows was created by Medusa during Chapter 9, made using a batch of recycled souls. The copies reside in the Underworld Castle, each one within a reconstructed version of their original locations made up entirely of memories. Once Twinbellows (and the others) are defeated, the path forwards opens up.
Twinbellows' fate at the end of the game is unclear, but considering how both Medusa and Hades are both destroyed by the events, it's within reason to assume that Twinbellows is unable to be revived like the first game.

Twinbellows appears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS.
Trivia[]
Twinbellows' name is a conjecture of "twin" (via the two heads) and "bellows" (an object typically used to pump air into a fire to keep it burning).
Twinbellows is likely inspired by Orthrus, the two headed guard dog who was killed by Hercules in Greek myth.
Notably, Twinbellows' Spanish name, "Ortros, el perro del Inframundo", translates to "Ortros, dog of the Underworld", likely hinting at Orthrus being a main inspiration for Twinbellows.
Alternatively, its Japanese, French, German, and Italian names all use Cerberus as a base, despite having two heads instead of three. It's likely it got this name due to its connection with the Underworld Army.
