Twin 1: We are getting aggravated.
Twin 2: Yes, we are.
~ The Twins exasperated while chasing Trinity, Morpheus, and the Keymaker.

The Twins are supporting antagonists in The Matrix Reloaded, the second instalment in The Matrix franchise. They are the two bodyguards of the Merovingian.

They were ghost programs designed for unknown reasons. They wore white clothes, and had long white hair. They had black lips and sun glasses. They were very similar to Agents, in their lack of emotions and their skeptical reactions to everything. They can be in either solid form or ghost form. They can be killed, but must be killed fast. All they have to do is switch to ghost form, and they will heal. They are widely suspected to be earlier versions of Agents from the previous alterations of the Matrix. They are from the Nightmare Matrix.

They were portrayed by real-life identical twins Neil Rayment and Adrian Rayment.

History[]

They were marked as exiles, meaning that they would be targeted by the agents for termination. But the twins' survival instincts drove them to defend themselves. The twins, along with the Vamps, vampire programs, joined forces with the Merovingian to survive.

When Morpheus, Trinity, and the Keymaker (another exiled program) attempted to escape, the twins pursued them and fought Morpheus in the parking lot. They then pursued them in the famous car chase. The were attacked by agents, and ended up falling behind. They later caught up, and drove toward Morpheus. But Morpheus flipped their car and caused it to explode. The twins were blasted into the sky, but switched to ghost form just in time to survive.

It is unknown what happened to the Twins afterwards, though it may be presumed that they and the other exile programs were assimilated by Agent Smith during the latter's takeover of the Matrix, which was implied when Smith commented to a small girl named Sati about being the last exile program to finish off. After Smith's defeat they most likely returned to their service of the Merovingian.

Trivia[]

  • The Twins were met with some controversy upon their debut, being seen as an offensive depiction of albinos.
  • It's said that Ilsa Strix, Lana Wachowski's dominatrix wife, was the one who came up with the Twins when she insisted Wachowski and her sister Lilly to expand the original The Matrix film into a trilogy.
