Ugh-Zan IV is the final boss of Serious Sam 3: BFE.
He is the fourth incarnation of the Ugh-Zan dynasty and one of Mental's most powerful servants, holding the rank of general in Mental's Horde and sent to Earth to prevent Sam "Serious" Stone from reaching the Time-Lock before his master can destroy the planet.
Appearance[]
As a member of the legendary Warlock Giants, Ugh-Zan IV towers over most buildings. Much of his titanic size can be attributed to his four-legged, bio-mechanical lower body that was given to him as a replacement to the legs that he lost in a great battle on Alpha Centauri, providing him with surprising speed for his size. Both of his biological arms have been cybernetically improved and two entirely mechanical arms rest on his shoulders, folded at his back when not in use, as the Ugh-Zan dynasty traditionally favors four arms.
Biography[]
At the very end of the Mental War, the conflict between humanity and the immortal being known as Mental, Sam Stone and the Earth Defense Force managed to activate an ancient device called the Time-Lock that was left behind by the Sirians, the last species Mental destroyed. Before they could use it to travel back in time however Mental's forces succeeded in overrunning EAM, leaving Sam as the last living human and the sole focus of Mental's attention. His armies on Earth were sent to converge on Sam and keep him from entering the Time-Lock while Mental made his way to destroy Earth personally.
As a last line of defense, Mental had Ugh-Zan IV await Sam in front of the Time-Lock in case he somehow fought his way close to it. When Sam stopped at the ruins before the finish line to catch his breath, Ugh-Zan IV emerged from beneath the sand and prepared to engage him in battle, only to be attacked by a vicious Sandwhale that the tremors of his movement had attracted. Sam found a jetpack left inside one of the ruins and turned to confront the warlock, as there was no way he could get to the Time-Lock safely while the giant was alive. Unfortunately, the regenerative abilities granted to Ugh-Zan IV by techno-magical plates built into his back meant that any damage Sam dealt was immediately healed, not to mention the hordes that arrived to reinforce the general.
The only way to defeat Ugh-Zan IV was to kill him while his regeneration was halted, which Sam achieved by impaling his back with metal rods left around from the archeological dig at the Time-Lock while Ugh-Zan IV wrestled with the Sandwhale that continued to assault him periodically. The rods attracted lighting from the stormy skies, deactivating the regenerative plates temporarily when it struck Ugh-Zan IV. This gave Sam the opening he needed to finish off his titanic opponent and fly to the Time-Lock, as their skirmish had bought Mental enough time to arrive and send the Moon on a direct collision course with Earth. With nary a second to spare Sam jumped into the Time-Lock before the Moon shattered the planet apart, sending him into the past and giving humanity a chance at survival.

Trivia[]
- Ugh-Zan IV's NETRICSA file states that he is rumored to be the biological father of Ugh-Zan III, a paradox attributed to an accident with an experimental time machine. This is likely a reference to Zaphod Beeblebrox and his father Zaphod Beeblebrox II from Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, or to Kyle Reese from Terminator.
- The theme for the battle against Ugh-Zan IV is a remix of the Dunes fight theme from The First Encounter.
- Many of Ugh-Zan IV's sounds are reused from Kwongo.
