Umberlee, also known as The Bitch Queen and the Queen of the Depths is the malevolent goddess of the sea and supporting antagonist in the Dungeons & Dragons setting of Forgotten Realms. Her signature weapon is the trident Drowning Death and her unholy symbol is a wave curling left and right. She is also a member of the Deities of Fury, a team of evil gods of nature.
Biography[]
Umberlee usually manifests in the prime material world as a giant woman with blue-ish green skin like the color of the ocean, with fish like fins on her elbows, octopus tentacles in place of legs, shining white eyes reminiscent of pearls and a thundering voice that sounds like a fierce sea storm. She always carries her enchanted trident, Drowning Death.
She is a cruel, vain, narcissistic, wrathful, greedy and sadistic goddess who enjoys bullying human sailors with her sea storms and see them being eaten alive by sharks and sea monsters after sinking their ships. She only stops her fury when the sailors drop precious items in the water to appease her. Gold and jewels are her favorite offerings but other valued objects like a writer's prized manuscript is a good enough sacrifice.
Her worshippers include humanoid sailors, Weresharks, Krakens and Sahuagins. She is mostly worshipped out of fear rather than devotion. Temples of Umberlee were few and far between, and the church was mostly disorganized, universally hated throughout Faerûn, and perpetuated out of fear of the goddess. Umberlee's church are modeled on her chaotic nature where disputes were ruled in favor of the strongest individual. As befitting her evil narcissism, Umberlee does not tolerate when one of her priests becomes too powerful and famous, stealing the spotlight from the goddess herself.
Umberlee's enemies are Selune, whose stars and moonlight guide ships to safety, Sune, whose oujo-sama beauty makes the Bitch Queen green with envy, and Chauntea for her dominion of over the land and the woods.
As a member of the Deities of Fury, she has an uneasy relationship with the team's leader Talos, as both deities portfolios include storms.
Powers & Abilities[]
As the goddess of the sea, Umberlee has great aquakinetic and atmokinetic powers, including the creation of giant, 50 meter tidal waves capable of destroying any sea vessel. She can summon schools of sharks and water elementals to attack adventurers. The monsters she summons are immune to mind control.
She has access to water and air based clerical and arcane spells (she can't use fire, earth, sun, thought and time magic though). All the water spells she casts are three times more powerful than normal, making them hard to avoid.
