| ~ The Corporal refusing to listen to Captain Walters' order to kill Maria and Shadow. |
The unnamed G.U.N. corporal is the overarching antagonist of the 2024 film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the third installment of the Sonic Cinematic Universe.
He is a member of G.U.N. who was sent to detain Shadow the Hedgehog, as well as eliminate Professor Gerald Robotnik and his granddaughter, Maria Robotnik, to tie up loose ends with G.U.N. and their involvement with Project Shadow. He is also the soldier responsible for the death of Maria, due to his complete refusal of Captain Walters' orders to stand down, thus making him the main catalyst directly responsible for Gerald and Shadow developing a hatred towards humanity and their plan to destroy humanity in order to avenge Maria.
He is portrayed by Barry Calvert.
Appearance
The G.U.N. soldier is an ordinary human in G.U.N. uniform, consisting of a green uniform, vest, and helmet. He also has a mustache.
Personality
From what is briefly shown, the soldier is loyal to the government and tried to follow their orders to "tie-up loose ends" by shooting Gerald and Maria, even when Captain Walters told him to stop. He also appears to be more wrathful and reckless than other members since he was the only one who actively tried to shoot and disobeyed Walters who warned him that he was firing at children, resulting in a tank exploding. He seemed unfazed by the death of Maria and instead carried on with his duty, helping detain Gerald and Shadow alongside the other soldiers.
Biography
In the past, Project Shadow was held in a G.U.N. base while experimenting with the alien hedgehog they named "Shadow" and his ability to produce "Chaos energy". They believed it could be harnessed for the advancement of all humanity, but when the top brass of G.U.N. decided that it was too dangerous, they gave orders to all their soldiers to capture Shadow and everyone else involved in the project, including its head scientist Professor Gerald Robotnik and his granddaughter, Maria.
As the soldiers raided the base, Gerald and Maria tried to escape with Shadow. The soldiers found them running through a corridor and gave chase, with one of them, a corporal attempting to shoot at them. Upon seeing Shadow and Maria, Captain Walters tries to stop the corporal from firing by pointing out that they are both children and are likely to get hurt or killed by the gunfire. However, the corporal angrily refuses to care about this by stating that he is following the government's orders to "tie up loose ends". Walters then tries to stop the corporal from firing by grabbing his gun, but this ends up with a shot that accidentally ends up hitting an energy tank, causing an massive explosion that kills Maria. Unperturbed of what he did that caused Maria's death, the corporal is later seen walking towards a mourning Gerald and Shadow with his fellow members of G.U.N arresting them both.
While it’s unknown what happened to the corporal afterwards, it’s still possible that Shadow may have killed him, along with his fellow soldiers, before he was subdued by Walters and frozen for 50 years. It could also be possible that he survived, but was fired by Captain Walters for killing Maria and imprisoned for child murder.
Trivia
- Unlike his Sonic X counterpart, Mister Schmitz, he at least had some homicidal intentions as he aimed his gun at Gerald, Maria, and Shadow whilst they were running away and fired, despite Captain Walters telling him to stop, while his game counterpart had no known motive other than following government orders and his Sonic X counterpart also followed government orders and warned Maria to not release it and was forced to shoot her. His Sonic X counterpart also showed regret both after and while he was about to shoot her.
- It's possible that killing Maria was part of the orders given to him by the government as he brought them up whilst Walters was trying to stop him from firing at her as she is a child.
- He and the other G.U.N. soldiers wear green instead of blue to reference the time period.
