Urgash is the overarching antagonist of the Heroes of Might and Magic Ashen series. He was the primordial dragon god of chaos, Asha's brother, and the creator of the demons.

Biography[]

Past[]

In the beginning there was a huge Cosmic Egg that was created out of Void itself, which was a powerful magical power. However, in the heart of the Void, the powers of magic began to crystallize and take shape. This is how the Cosmic Egg was created, which exploded and two dragons hatched. One of them was Asha, the dragon of order, and the other was Urgash, the dragon of chaos. Asha created several worlds, she named her favorite one after herself, i.e. Ashan became the name of one of the worlds. However, creation also required elements, which is why Asha created elemental dragons children for each element. They were Elrath the Dragon of Light, Malassa the Dragon of Darkness, Arkath the Dragon of Fire, Shalassa the Dragon of Earth, Sylanna the Dragon of Air, and Ylath the Dragon of Air.

However, Urgash was envious of his sister and her works, and he did not see the point of all these creations, so he decided that he would do the opposite of what Asha did and destroy everything she had created. The Chaos Dragon created the demons who were solely loyal to him and fought against the races of the elemental dragons. It was then that the Wars of Creation began, in which the world of Ashan was almost destroyed. However, the end of the war was that Urgash was defeated, but not destroyed, but imprisoned. Elrath wanted to destroy him, but Malassa prevented him from doing so, knowing that the world needed even a minimum of chaos, however, she did what Urgash's goal. However, the demons continued to fight for him, one of their biggest invasions was in the Historical Age, The Wars of Fire, 28-40 YSD. Most of the Angels are destroyed, and the rest go to the Holy Falcon Realm and converts to Elrath, while Sar-Elem, the Seventh Dragon seals the demons into Sheogh by sacrificing himself. The demon prison was built directly around the core of the planet, where Urgash was also imprisoned, but it was not impossible to get to the surface, so the demons continued the war for their evil god with the help of magical portals and passages.

However, the demons were unable to use Urgash's power in the world of Ashan, nor could they ask their master for help, but they were capable of any other magic. The demons then fought according to their master's way of thinking, that is, their goal could be as successful as possible if they caused as much chaos as possible and incited the races of Asha against each other. However, the seal of Sar Elam's prison in Sheogh had weakened over the centuries and the demons could launch invasions again, but Urgash remained imprisoned and unable to help his minions. His only hope was the fulfillment of a prophecy. One of the seven disciples of Sar-Elam, a powerful magician and prophet, Sar-Shazzar, foretold the coming of a demon messiah who would freed the demons out of their prison and Urgash could finally take revenge and be freed. In Sheogh, Kha-Beleth suddenly came to power, becoming the Demon Sovereign and the supreme leader of the demons. With his dark magic, he corrupted a young girl, Isabel Greyhound, who was the queen of the Griffin Empire and gave birth to a child, Sareth, who was the demon messiah. The half-human, half-demon person was able to use Urgash's power in the land of Ashan and he was the last hope of the chaotic dragon and demon sovereign.

Heroes of Might and Magic V[]

After the Red Church was created, Biara and his demonic minions bewitched many fanatics and other individuals and they thought worshiped Elrath, but were actually strengthening the worship of Urgash behind the illusions. Talonguard and Flammschrein became important centers of the empire of darkness, where the worship of the chaotic dragon was the strongest. However, after the fall of the Red Church and the death of Biara, the worship of Urgash in the territory of Ashan almost completely ceased, smaller sects could worship him secretly.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic[]

If Sareth doesn't destroy the Skull of Shadows, he'll strengthen the prison's energy, meaning Kha-Beleth and Urgash will likely never escape. However, if he destroys the artifact, Sheogh's prison will also be destroyed, and along with the demons inside and Kha Beleth, Urgash will be freed.

Might & Magic: Heroes Kingdoms[]

Kingdoms adopts that ending is canonical, when Sareth freeing his father and destroying the Skull of Shadow. Urgash breaks free and wreaks havoc on Ashan and successfully exacts his revenge. Asha is finally defeated and exiled, and four elemental dragons disappear, with which Ashan is finally thrown into chaos and it is likely that Urgash has won.

Personality[]

What is certain is that Urgash was an extremely chaotic, destructive, unreliable, vile dragon. He was jealous of his sister Asha and hated her, so he wanted to destroy everything, anyone, and anything that had to do with her.

With his creations and servants, Urgash' relationships was chaotic. He could be affable and kind one moment, then cruel and ruthless immediately one second after.
