Alright, so in terms of whether or not there are any candidates for the second season of Amphibia, there is the elephant in the room that I am sure we all know: "True Colors" was originally supposed to premiere on May 1, but Disney did a stinky and changed the scheduling so now the second season finale is currently unaired. However, the next day, iTunes released the episode which again falls squarely on the Disney execs' laps for not informing the company to cancel the release of the episode. As this is very heavily spoiler-iffic, I advice any who do not know about the leak to not read this and give the proper respect to Matt and his team to wait for the official release. For anyone else, here we go.
King Andrias is on the road as being a potential keeper. In the series, he is the king of Amphibia living in the city of Newtopia where he had given Marcy Wu the occupation of Chief Ranger of the Newtopian Knight Guard. While he seems to be a childishly friendly monarch who is invested with helping Anne and her friends return home, this is merely a mask to hide his true nature. Andrias is a psychopathic megalomaniac who desires to use the Calamity Box, a device that is powered by three gems and is able to allow the user to travel to different worlds. While playing a game of FlipWart with Marcy, Marcy explains to the king that back on Earth her family was going to move due to her father getting a new job in another town. Because she did not want to leave her two childhood friends, Marcy learns of the Calamity Box and convinces Sasha and Anne to help her snatch it at an antique shop...it all happening on Anne's birthday no less. From there, he offers her a proposition: she charge all three gems, and Andrias would take her and her friends to other worlds where they could have endless adventures.
After the girls travel to the three temples representing each gem, they return to Newtopia, but unbeknownst to Anne, Sasha and Captain Grime stage a toad invasion and imprison Andrias. While deciding to "renovate" the kingdom, Sasha and Grime discover a mural depicting Andrias standing over a pile of skulls, the Calamity Box in his hands. Realizing the truth, Sasha and Grime try to stop the girls from giving Andrias the Calamity Box but Anne, finally fed up with Sasha's lies, does not heed her warnings and defeats her.
With the Calamity Box back in his possession, Andrias reveals that his ancestors were glorious conquerors and that he would use its powers to take over the multiverse. He places the box on a stand to fuel the kingdom and makes it airborne uncaring he'd be putting his subjects in danger. Anne and her team come together to oppose the mad king, but this leads to Andrias smashing the robot frog Frobo, and then topping that by attempting to stomp on Polly, a tadpole/baby (but she luckily gets her legs just in time). Polly gets the Calamity Box on Anne's orders...but then Andrias takes Sprig hostage and threatens to drop him if the Calamity Box was not returned. Anne relents and does what he says...and Andrias drops him out the window of his flying palace.
Distraught, Anne, who was still connected with the Calamity Box due to it not being completely charged, is granted the power of the gem and soundly obliterates Andrias' robots. However, she soon tires herself out due to her not yet being able to control the power. Sprig is saved in the nick of time, but Andrias tries to make another attempt on the Plantars' lives. Marcy stops this and activates a portal to Earth. Sasha tells Anne to leave while she and Grime hold Andrias at bay, but while they are able to escape, Andrias stabs Marcy through the chest with his flaming sword.
So heinousness...Andrias has all the resources at his disposal and comes off as the worst of the Amphibia rogues gallery so far due to wanting to take over all worlds, and given the mural that depicts him standing over the literal bones of his victims, Andrias' method of invading and conquering worlds....isn't pretty. He also commits onscreen murder of a child no less, and tried to kill what amounted to a baby frog just because he could. However, season 3 might up his heinousness especially when it is made clear that he serves some type of eldritch abomination known as the Night. From what we know, Andrias is at work dismantling a prophecy concerning the three human girls, but we do not know the full details behind his revenge scheme just yet.
Freudian excuse...mitigating/redeeming factors. Generally speaking, he has no positive attributes. His bubbly, friendly exterior? A mere façade to manipulate people in ways that serve him and his nefarious purposes. He explained how thousands of years ago when he was ruling the land, he had two friends who are implicated to have stolen the Calamity Box from under his nose thus making the city of Newtopia lose a lot of its "greatness." However, this isn't really depicted in a truly tragic light. Andrias had since become bitter of the concept of friendship and wanted others to feel the pain of those friendships going demonstrating this by dropping Sprig even when he got what he wanted.
As for Marcy...it is made abundantly clear where his feelings for her truly lie. Unlike with Captain Grime who grew to genuinely care for Sasha, Andrias saw Marcy as a tool who he faked empathy for when she explained to him the problems she had with her family life back on Earth. He promises to take her and her friends to other worlds to explore, but he never truly meant it and promised her this so he could use her to recharge the gems whilst blissfully keeping it under lock and key that this would sever her connection with her gem. He giddily exposes her secret to Anne and Sasha and once she repented, he thought nothing of impaling her the only emotional response he gave her being a spiteful "Now look what you made me do."
Besides Andrias, there is also his master, the 13-eyed beast that lives in his basement, to take into account. Since its only physical appearance was in "The First Temple" aside from it being depicted in the mural Sasha and Grime discover, we have little to go off of but more information about the Night will surely be in the third season when it comes.
