What is the work?[]
Moral Orel was a show that aired on [adult swim] from 2005 - 2008 starring the eponymous Orel Puppington who lives in the town of Moralton, Statesota. The first two seasons were notorious for being black comedy. It went like this: Orel misinterprets a sermon, he does something that gets out of control, his father takes him to his study to tell Orel he was wrong for a completely unrelated event. Rinse and repeat. It remained like that until the season 2 finale "Nature" where Clay shoots Orel in the leg.
Season 3 would make the series overall one of the darkest pieces of western animation out there with it being a character study and exploring the hypocrisy infesting Moralton. Some episodes would not even be about Orel but other recurring characters. As such, we have one especially depraved character to discuss.
Who is he? What has he done?[]
Cecil Creepler was the town's ice cream man who, much like with the show's first season, is played for laughs. He gets a prominent role in the Season 2 episode "Courtship" where he tries to get Orel's best friend Doughy Latchkey into the back of his truck and keeps giving him gifts. Eventually, he does get Doughy to come to the back of his truck, but Doughy quickly runs off.
As the show became darker, Creepler becomes a much more sinister force. In the episode that was the final nail in the show's coffin "Alone," Creepler had become a serial rapist who stalked seven women who had their apartment doors. He specifically targeted brunettes and had a hatred for blondes. Miss Sculptham, Orel's teacher, dyes her hair and leaves her door open likely to serve as bait. Creepler comes in and rapes her before getting arrested. Worse, there is the indication that he impregnated her and she used a clothes hanger to perform a first aid abortion which she regrets.
She gets word that he died in prison and is greatly distraught by it because she was in love with him.
Freudian Excuse? Mitigating factors?[]
No. Like I said before, the show starts off as being a comedy before entering darker territory. Creepler is portrayed as a sadistic rapist who takes pleasure in what he does. At best, there was a script for an unproduced episode where we learn that he had a cellmate he was friends with who said that he wanted a legacy and he committed suicide when he learns that Miss Sculptham aborted the pregnancies. However, since that was not produced, it could be considered non-canon.
Heinous standard[]
Many of the characters in the series suffer from insufficient heinousness. Clay, the main antagonist, is a horrible excuse for a father who shot his own son in the leg and is largely responsible for Moralton being the way it is because he was the mayor. However, he is a broken man with a very disturbing backstory. Miss Censordoll later coddles Clay with the implication she would have used him to run the town behind the scenes. Had the series been continued, it would have also revealed that she used Voodoo to manipulate Clay into shooting Orel.
Orel himself had committed a few crimes, albeit innocently, in the first two seasons, such as one where he impregnated several of the women in Moralton or used the Necronomicon and accidentally created a wave of zombies. However, as the show goes into Cerebus Syndrome, a lot of Orel's antics could be chalked up as Early Installment Weirdness. As for Creepler, I think he does enough with being responsible for raping 8 women and is genuinely treated with seriousness so much so, Miss Sculptham suffers from Stockholm Syndrome and is actually in love with her rapist.
