Dr

So what happens if you take Dr. Samuel Loomis from the Halloween franchise and strip him of his altruism and instead of trying to reach Michael Myers and then dedicating his existence to ending his evil he instead encouraged Michael's sociopathic behavior?

What is the work?[]

Chucky, a 2021 slasher/horror series by SYFY and the latest entry in the Child's Play franchise. The series follows Jake Wheeler, a gay young man who was not living the best of lives. Suffering from bullying because of his sexuality and him living with a violent alcoholic who secretly resents him, he discovers a Good Guy doll at a yard sale and decides to use it to make a macabre sculpture. However little did he know that the doll contained the soul of an infamous serial killer, the Lakeshore Strangler.

Who is she?[]

Dr. Mixter is a therapist who first met the future megalomaniacal, sociopathic killer doll Charles Lee Ray in 1965 after the death of his parents. When he tells her that he was the one who killed his mother, she becomes interested in his remorseless violent actions, admitting that she did see a strand of humanity in him. But, screw it she thought. She was much more interested with his chaotic nature. So, she stamped out that little goodness and began mentoring him and nurturing his violent tendencies.

However, once Charles killed the janitor at the Burlington County Home for Wayward Boys, and the two had lost contact with each other.

What has she done?[]

Chucky's plan to create an army of Good Guy Dolls that he would unleash on the United States to immortalize himself as the worst killer in American history? Dr. Mixter helped him with it. Chucky reunites with his childhood therapist explaining his plans but that it hinged on a Voodoo ritual requiring a child to kill someone, she is the one who suggests that he traumatizes the intended target making her in some ways responsible for the tragedies that befall the protagonists.

She later becomes the family therapist for the Cross family after the mayhem of the failed charity event that led to several deaths including the death of Lexy's father. Caroline had developed a fear of dolls as a result and was insistent Chucky was responsible. So, as a means of helping her deal with her trauma, she gives her a "Wedding Belle" doll (which was Chucky in disguise) to deal with it.

After Chucky fails to kill Jake, Lexy, and Devon with a homemade bomb (which tragically kills his foster-brother Gary), she suggests that the three teens be sent to Incarnate Lord, a Christian private school which was also where Chucky went in his past.

One of the nuns, Sister Ruth, who is not too right in the head, is recruited by Dr. Mixter due to her belief that Chucky was Jesus. Mixter arrives to the school and gets into connection with "The Colonel" a bald Good Guy Doll who was holding Andy Barclay and torturing his body (and eating some of his roasted flesh because... he was hungry??) telling him of how Chucky Prime (the one inside Nica) was arriving to the school as well as sneaking him in to kill Jake and his friends (and presumably anyone else who got in the way since she says that Chucky was going to kill all of them).

She explains her plan: she would perform an exorcism that would rip Chucky's soul from Nica's body and then transfer him into a new doll body. However, that vessel would have to be Scout Chucky/"Good" Chucky, a Good Guy Doll that was acting as a watchdog who seemingly was brainwashed into becoming docile by Jake. Annoyed with that "goodness," Mixter tries to stamp that out saying how pure Chucky's remorselessness was.

After Nadine's death, the exorcism is held by Father Bryce, a closeted gay man who became aware of the Chucky doll being alive. In order to perform the exorcism, each one had to give a confession. Dr. Mixter does no such thing other than saying that her goal was to unleash Chucky on the world again. During the exorcism, Chucky's soul leaps into his body and makes him...explode?

Regardless, the exorcism works and Chucky repossesses a Good Guy Doll. Jake tries to drown him in some holy water, but Dr. Mixter threatens Sister Catherine and Andy with a gun forcing him to hand the doll over. Sister Ruth stands in the way preventing Jake and the group from chasing after Dr. Mixter leading to Glenda killing her by tossing Chucky's knife in her eye. She pulls it out, stares at it for a few seconds before keeling over.

Andy seemingly finally ends Chucky's terror by shooting him repeatedly until he bled out with his life flashing before his eyes. However, that is not the case: as she was escaping with Chucky, Chucky knocks her out and switches bodies with her leaving her to die in his place. Guess Dr. Mixter never considered that encouraging his violent behavior would bite her in the ass one day.

Freudian Excuse? Mitigating factors?[]

She was very devoted to Chucky with her flashbacking to dancing with Chucky (back when he was still human) years ago. I have heard some claim that Dr. Mixter most likely viewed Chucky as a son which was why she was a willing accessory to his crimes... but, I do not see that. She made it clear that she loved Chucky's violent remorselessness and intentionally crushed his little shred of innocence for no other reason than because she was bored.

Heinous standard[]

Obviously, Chucky sets it as the main antagonist of the franchise. From the TV series he murdered his own mother to impress a serial killer before committing his other atrocities in the films. Here, he is even worse: he has his clones slaughter adults at a charity event; inadvertently causes a fire at a house party which could have endangered several kids (also killing a 14-year-old even when he knew that was not the target). Corrupting kids like feeding lies to Caroline and having her join his side. And, of course wanting to send around 70 Good Guy dolls nationwide with much more bloodshed in mind all to satiate his narcissistic ego.

So, I guess I could go over some of the antagonists featured in the series:

  • The Hackensack Slasher is one of the overarching antagonists of the franchise as a whole along with Mixter herself, Tiffany, and Damballa because he was Chucky's idol. He murdered his father and would have killed him and his mother had Chucky not beaten him to it first. However, his kills are mentioned only in-passing on the radio.
  • Tiffany, oh my goodness, Tiff. She keeps Nica hostage because she liked seeing more of her and less of Chucky. She even goes as far as to cut off Nica's limbs to keep her from trying to kill her (since Chucky was still attached to her after the events of Cult). She kept the real Jennifer Tilly trapped in her doll and enslaves her. She killed her sister in a blind rage as her lies were being exposed. But, as always, she loves her kids and is distraught at Glen taking the shot when Nica intended to shoot her. She does also kind of try to keep Chucky from reaching Jake and his friends.

With Mixter, you can honestly thank her in a way: her being insistent on suppressing Chucky's humanity led to the series. However, I was somewhat iffy since Chucky has a higher body count who planned on taking over the United States. But, she was the one who gave Chucky the idea to traumatize Jake and the others in order for his Voodoo spell to work and she outright "confesses" that she intends on unleashing Chucky on the world once again. Make of that as you will on whether she has enough complicity to edge her out.
