What is the work?[]
Alice in Wonderland is a 2010 re-imagining of the 1951 Disney animated classic Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton. In the film, Alice returns to Wonderland where she sees that it had been transformed into a totalitarian nightmare by the Red Queen. It also received a sequel adapting Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass story.
Who is it? What has it done?[]
The Jabberwocky is a demonic dragon that is the reason the Red Queen was able to take over the Underland. On an event known as Horunvendush Day, the Red Queen unleashed the Jabberwocky on a party thrown by the White Queen, where he mercilessly burns the area to smoldering cinders including the knights which allowed for the vorpal sword, the only thing that could slay the Jabberwocky, to be taken. From there, the Red Queen continued her reign of terror keeping the people in line by intimidating them with the Jabberwocky. During the carnage, the Mad Hatter's family, the Hightopps are kidnapped and shrunk down to a miniscule size and imprisoned in a glass jar for years.
In 1868, Alice Kingsleigh inadvertently finds herself back in Wonderland and is informed of a prophecy stating that she was destined to slay the Jabberwocky. Eventually, Alice and an army loyal to the White Queen assembles to fight against the Red Queen's forces. The Jabberwocky taunts Alice over her insignificance as the two battle in a single combat. She would get the high ground and decapitates the Jabberwocky.
As a result of the dragon's demise, the red knights betray the Red Queen and she is banished alongside the Knave of Hearts. Alice then returns to Earth with a vial of the Jabberwocky's blood.
Freudian Excuse? Mitigating factors?[]
The Jabberwocky is a flat character, but he is far from being a mindless rampaging beast. Voiced by Christopher Lee in the only few lines of dialogue he gets, he expresses that he is an egotistical, sadistic abomination who derides Alice under the belief that she was inferior to him and while the Red Queen has moments where she gushes over him, the Jabberwocky does not reciprocate her care in any of the scenes they have together.
Heinous standard[]
As I have said, he is the reason the Red Queen was able to keep an iron grip on Underland for years. Sure, she is the one ultimately responsible for slaughtering hundreds of people enough that their heads were floating in a body of water, but the Jabberwocky was the most essential element in her plan as shown that she is immediately overthrown in response to the death of the dragon. The massacre at Horunvendush is one of the worst atrocities committed in the duology and he was also the one responsible for the whereabouts of the Mad Hatter's family.
