What is the work?[]
Buddy Daddies is an original 2023 anime series about two professional killers finding themselves having to raise a young four-year-old girl named Miri Unasaka after they had unwittingly killed her biological father a notorious human trafficker who unknowingly held his own daughter at gunpoint (even if he knew that she was his daughter, don't think he'd care much either way).
Who is he? What has he done?[]
Ryo Ogino is a professional killer who is the main antagonist of the anime. A killing frenzy walking on two legs, Ogino is employed in the same assassin organization Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa are a part of. Unlike the two who kill mainly for a living, Ogino is absolutely obsessed with death and has the habit of writing the last words of his targets down in his personal journal before killing them.
- Due to Kazuki and Rei being unable to execute a target due to taking care of Miri, Ogino is tasked with eliminating a nameless kingpin. He absolutely massacres his way through his bodyguards with his brute force before finishing off the kingpin.
- In the past when he and Kazuki were tasked to take out a target, Ogino shoots out the tires of the getaway car. Unfortunately for Kazuki, his pregnant wife happened to be there at the time, and she is killed in an explosion triggered by a gas leak.
- When Rei's weaponry mentor tried to leave the organization with his girlfriend, Ogino kidnaps and kills her all while sadistically relishing in the mentor's blind hope that he could be reunited with her. It is also indicated that he tortured her to death most likely.
- When Shigeki Suwa, Rei's abusive father, issued him to kill Kazuki and Miri, he murders Miri's mother Misaki before trying to get to Miri's room.
- He tries to kill both Rei and Kazuki when they break into Shigeki's residence to force Rei's father to drop the hit. After fighting with them, he tries to strangle the life out of Rei...until Kazuki stabs him in the back with a knife. Rei headbutts him resulting in him driving the knife through his throat when he fell. He tries to get his journal so he could write his own last words down but a lighter gets tossed into the room leading to a huge fiery explosion which burns his book to ashes and finishes him off.
Heinous standard[]
He is The Heavy for Shigeki with the highest body count in the show. What more is there to say about a guy who not only tries to kill a 4-year-old child in cold blood but also gleefully brags about writing her last words down while killing her?
The only big-hitter is of course Shigeki himself. After all, several of the ordered assassinations can be traced back to him, and he put his own son through sheer training from hell abuse all to make him into the perfect killing machine while demanding that he never refer to him as his "Father." That being said, when Rei shoots his own arm to cripple himself ergo making himself useless to his father as an heir for his organization, Shigeki had his son in perfect shot to shoot him in the back but decided against it. Whether that means that despite him trying to deny the title of "father" did not suppress his parental instincts or he just saw him as worthless and unnecessary to kill I do not know. Will leave that to you to decide.
Mitigating factors?[]
No tragic backstory or the sort. He is just a man absolutely obsessed with death and writing down the final words of his victims which bites him hard when he could have easily ended Rei and Kazuki at any time due to him being a behemoth of a boulder.
When he first meets Miri in episode 5 when she crashes into him, he picks her up and quizzically stares at her before setting her back down. Personally don't call that a Pet the Dog moment more pragmatic. I mean he has no reason to just go out in the open and kill absolutely everything in sight after all. Once he realizes that Miri was of importance to Rei, he has no qualms killing her since Shigeki ordered him to.
With Kyu, there is no relationship there. Since Kyu is an informant for the assassin guild, it is his job with giving Ogino work to do.
