What is the work?[]
The Invitation is a 2022 supernatural horror movie released by Sony Pictures. It stars Evie, a struggling artist who had lost both parents. When her best friend suggests that she do a DNA test to see if she had an extended family, she receives an email from an English man claiming to be her distant cousin.
After meeting him, he invites her to attend a wedding in England. While hesitant, she agrees but soon she began to notice some oddities during her visit.
Who is he?[]
The charming Walter Deville is the lord of the Deville manor situated in the English countryside. However, it soon turns out be is an immortal vampire being Count Dracula in all but name. He had made a covenant with the village where three families are blessed with prosperity as long as each one provided a girl whom Walter would turn and wed.
But the Alexander family only provided males and their one candidate, Evie's great grandmother, committed suicide to escape her fate. When they learn of Evie, Oliver tracks her down and invites her to a wedding.
What has he done?[]
Walter easily woos her even doing the nasty when she discovered he kept tabs on her. At the banquet a maid is killed to commemorate her marriage to Walter. Needless to say, she is not thrilled.
Evie temporarily escapes thanks to the aid of the housekeeper, but is recaptured. While the marriage procedure is underway, she bites Walter and socks her blood to become a vampire herself. She stabs Walter and battles one of his brides but Lucy, the younger of the two brides and more sympathetic, fights the other one causing both to die.
As the manor catches on fire, Walter tries to kill Evie but she pushes him into the fire finally destroying him.
Freudian Excuse? Mitigating factors?[]
While he claims to love Evie, it is clear that he really wants to reclaim control over her family line by stringing her along. But when Evie opposes him, he does not hesitate with trying to kill her.
Heinous standard[]
Has multiple murders on his hands or had them carried out as evidenced by him keeping corpses preserved in the ice box of a shed.
As for anyone else, there was Mr. Fields, the butler who kills the housekeeper for helping Evie escape and was also the one who killed Evie's great grandfather and bragged he could have slit her grandfather's throat if it meant preventing her from being born. So, yeah, a real racist piece of work.
