Harry-Potter-Bellatrix-Death

Not her daughter, you bitch!

What is the work?[]

The Harry Potter franchise, starting as a series of 8 books written by the formerly beloved author J.K. Rowling (who may or may not be Rita Skeeter writing to us from the Wizarding World) and later were adapted into films based on the first 7 books, and then getting an... okay spin off series set years before Harry was born. So... we all know what the books are about.

It all started when the Dark Lord Voldemort tried to murder the protagonist Harry Potter while he was still in the crib due to a prophecy about a boy who would defeat him (which funnily enough Neville also met the requirements). He murders his parents, but it was because of the loving sacrifice of Harry's mother Lily that the Killing Curse rebounds on the Dark Lord and his body is destroyed. He also unwittingly made his archenemy into a Horcux. After the murders, Harry is taken to live with the Dursleys until Hagrid arrived and gave the eternal words of revelation to Harry that he was a wizard. And of course, we have the wizarding school and Harry and his friends grow and spend some of the books trying to find Voldemort's Horcuxes so they could destroy them and render Voldemort mortal again.

And that was that; Harry defeats Voldemort, everyone lived happily without fear of uttering Voldemort's name... at least until the elevated fanfic written by Rowling herself debuted called The Cursed Child which adds... interesting expansions to the lore. Whether it was necessary or not I will leave that to you.

Who is Bellatrix? Why Does She No Longer Count?[]

The psychopathic Bellatrix Lestrange is one of the secondary antagonists of the franchise who was raised to believe in Pure Blood supremacy. She would later become the faithful henchman of Tom Marvolo Riddle, Jr., aka Lord Voldemort. Throughout the series, Bellatrix demonstrates a specific fondness for using one of the dark spells the Cruciatus Curse which inflicts immeasurable pain on the person which honestly sounds worse than the Avada Kedavra curse. She inflicts this on Neville Longbottom's parents to where they were rendered in near-comas. She murdered her cousin Sirius Black during Prisoner of Azkaban. She is a pyromaniac arsonist who burned several properties. She murdered the free elf Dobby, etc. So... that being said, why is she being put on the chopping block?

For the longest time (oh, oh, oh), it was believed that Bellatrix never actually cared for Lord Voldemort as an individual, but rather used him as a means of acting on her murderous impulses and embodies her prejudices for non-Pure Bloods and assisted the Dark Lord in his plans of eradicating all Muggles and Muggle-Borns, etc. However... then we get into one of our first issues. When Lestrange is sentenced to Azkaban, not once does she ever denounce Voldemort. Many of Voldemort's Death Eaters are shown to have their own agendas for serving under the noseless freak but Bellatrix is the only one to remain truly loyal to her master. Now, can it be possible that she could both see him as the embodiment of her Pure Blood supremacist ideology and genuinely love him? Yes, that is very true.

Now as for more evidence on the fact that Bellatrix actually loved Voldemort. For starters, she actually has a daughter with Tom named Delphini in The Cursed Child through a liaison despite it being repeatedly stated and demonstrated that Voldemort is incapable of love due to being born from the very morally fudged up actions of Merope Gaunt using a love potion to win over his father. As much as I would like to disregard the book as elevated fanfiction that employs, urk... Time-turners... J.K. Rowling herself made it clear that the book is canon even if we do not want it. Of course on Voldemort's end it was a means to an end to have an heir, but it further showcases that Bellatrix actually did love the Dark Lord.

Another example. From Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, when Voldemort is knocked to the ground as a result of his connection to Harry through the lightning bolt star, Bellatrix instinctively goes over to try to help him up which leads to the admittedly funny moment of Voldy saying "I don't need help!"

All of these moments demonstrate that, while it may be true that she sees Voldemort as a validation for her supremacist views, she also truly cares for him. I know that we have instances of fanatical villains who serve the main baddie either for sadism's sake or they have their own agendas, but when Bellatrix never once denounces Voldemort when she had every opportunity to, combined with having a child with him and showing concern when he faints on the ground in the movie... I think that is too much that takes it out of just being fanatical.

We have had many instances of henchmen being disqualified if their devotion to their masters was genuine. One example was Barem Bridge from the second part of Chainsaw Man. Initially he seemed to be an easy keep. He is the most heinous character in the second act but he was disqualified because it was determined that his devotion to Makima was genuine and that he truly felt that she would have made a better world had Denji not have killed her. This is pretty much the same with Bellatrix.
