So, following up the success of the Big Jack Horner removal, thought to look into a candidate that I feel should have never been approved considering how wonky the work they originate is.
What is the work?[]
SpongeBob SquarePants, but primarily the comic book series that Nickelodeon publishes.
Who is the character? What has he done?[]
The Kraken is the main antagonist of the two-parter "Untidaled" in the SpongeBob Comics. The Kraken is a monstrous sea creature who originally started off as an event promoter when he was paid a visit by a one-eyed man who suggests he make a fake "talent show" in return for a reward. With that, he kidnaps Mr. Krabs's daughter Pearl and holds her hostage when he realized he was tricked.
Eventually, he plans on devouring several sea creatures by luring them with a Krabby Patty. He gathers some pipes and a jar which he uses to drain Bikini Bottom. He then tries to devour all of the Bikini Bottomites only to get his plan thwarted.
Why Doesn't He Qualify?[]
The issue I have is SpongeBob is not a series conducive to have a PE villain. That is not to say that there can never be any truly serious moments as you had villains like the Cyclops and Dennis who featured in the film. That, and the scene where SpongeBob and Patrick have a Disney Death. But, ultimately, the problem with SpongeBob is that it is a wacky, comedic series for the most part with characters like Krabs himself doing terrible things but often they are taken to be meant as "funny."
The Kraken, on paper, would easily be one of the darkest villains in the franchise, but everything surrounding the Kraken in the comic are played for laughs. For instance, Patrick calls for a recap since he and the others had forgotten about the Kraken in the previous issue. Or there is the instance of SpongeBob suggesting they sing a song. A PE is meant to be taken as serious at all times, and yet with these moments, the comic brushes off how the Kraken is basically trying to commit mass murder to satiate his palate.
But the biggest one is kind of what removed Jack; when he is defeated, the Kraken shouts "And it was a great jar too!" Not to mention how he got defeated was by Pearl literally singing so terribly, she shatters the glass to the jar.
