This one would eventually come sooner or later...
Note: This proposal is only geared towards Solaris, not his halves Mephiles the Dark or Iblis.
The Work[]
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), aka Sonic '06, is an infamous game in terms of untested glitches and abundance of load screens, a prime example of why you don't rush game development. In this attempt to reboot the franchise, it follows Sonic and friends in the aquatic city-state of Soleanna on a mission to rescue Princess Elise from Dr. Robotnik.
Eventually, Sonic is thrown into a story about Soleanna's "god" Solaris and his two halves, Iblis, the fiery power, and Mephiles, the dark mind. While Mephiles meets the criteria of PE as I'll explain below, its Solaris included under the category that I have issues with.
Who is Solaris[]
Solaris starts out as a sentient flame that existed since ancient times and was entrusted to the royal family of Soleanna. The citizens grew to worship the flame as a deity representing the Sun and have an annual festival each year to honor the flame. But as time went on, the flame grew bigger. It was theorized that the flame would grow enough to cover and destroy the world, aka "the Flames of Disaster". To combat this, the Duke initiated a project to harness the power of Solaris to "correct their past mistakes". However, the experiment goes wrong and Solaris splits in two, forming Mephiles and Iblis in the forms of swirls of darkness and fire respectively. Mephiles is sealed away into the Scepter of Darkness by a time-traveling Shadow the Edgehog while the badly wounded Duke seals away Iblis into his daughter Elise before dying, telling her to never cry as that would break the seal. Which makes no logical sense how a child who just lost her father can't release a single tear for the rest of her life.
Ten years pass to the present day and Mephiles is released during a struggle between Rouge and Eggman over the Scepter of Darkness. Elise then f-ing dies when Eggman's ship crashes which somehow releases Iblis anyways and he converts the entire planet into a volcanic wasteland within 200 years. Mephiles manipulates Silver the Hedgehog that Sonic was the one responsible for the release of Iblis (the "Iblis Trigger") and sends him back in time using a Chaos Emerald to before Elise's death to stop Sonic. Silver fails, and instead learns the truth about Solaris. So Mephiles goes back in time himself (which makes you question why he didn't do that in the first place) and shoots a laser at Sonic, killing him which makes Elise cry and release Iblis. Mephiles combines with the embers to reform Solaris who precedes to plunge the world in darkness and prepared to devour time itself by consuming all timelines.
Fortunately, the late Sonic's friends gather the Chaos Emeralds which, along with a necrophilic bestiality kiss from Elise, revives Sonic and turns Silver and Shadow into Super Saiyans to battle and destroy the mad god. Sonic and Elise are then sent to the very beginning of time and blow out Solaris' flame, promptly erasing him from existence. Haha the plot of Sonic '06 was to erase the plot of Sonic '06.
Why he doesn't count[]
Read this portion before automatically voting "Keep because Mephiles is Solaris' mind".
Yes, Mephiles is Solaris' mind, but only the mind of Solaris given a physical form, not Solaris as a whole. He makes up only half of Solaris alongside the mindless Iblis. The problem is not that, but the moral agency of the sun god himself.
For the "true" Solaris (the combined form of Mephiles and Iblis) seen in the final boss battle, he does little to nothing to foretell about his real personality other than just sitting there and throwing lasers and rocks. One of Eggman's quotes has him mention that Solaris freely feasts on any timeline without any reasoning, making him act somewhat amoral. Heck, to even further question his agency, he never speaks in neither of his forms.
Out of the three, only Mephiles can count as PE because he's the only one with any clear agency over his horrific actions, expressing his satisfaction in watching the world drown away in darkness. And he's the only Sonic villain who succeeds in killing Sonic (albeit temporarily). Only when Mephiles was... Mephiles does he ever show any personality to his actions. And he talks. Meanwhile, the only vocalization Solaris gives out is whale-like bellows.
Verdict[]
Mephiles can stay, but Iblis and Solaris as a whole should go away.
