I'm back, with another dual proposal. One that, I actually debated doing, I was unsure if I was going to do this so soon or not, since my last candidates were also WW2 candidates, also from a bleak and grim film. And I certainly don't want to just propose a bunch of WW2 villains without branching out, I almost did that with western movies in 2023, and with grisly stuff like this, it can get disheartening if done too repetitiously. And of course, that isn't even mentioning other problems this wiki has had, like earlier this year (I'm not going into detail, but it's sadly driven at least a few admins to leave, though they apparently are available elsewhere at least, and I assume most of you who read this know what I'm talking about anyways). But I might as well do them, while my memory's good, and well, the best I or any of us can do is move forward, and well, my mission in joining this wiki to begin with was to create content, namely pages, but how could I ignore PE proposals. And I haven't done video game villains in almost a year, this is my sixteenth proposal overall, my fourth dual proposal, as well as my first since January, and the proposal box is mostly empty right now with only two in it, and two other EPs created but not in the box yet. I hope this goes well, and with that said...

What is the work?[]

Velvet Assassin is WW2 era game released in 2009, following Violette Summer, a British spy and assassin sneaking behind enemy lines, and loosely based on the real life Violette Szazbo. The game, unlike other WW2 games, depicts Nazi war crimes in a much more up close and unnerving way compared to stuff like say, the Call of Duty games. Most of the game takes place in flashbacks while Violette is hospitalized, and recalling past mission. Which brings us to our villains.

Who are Colonel Willi Schüntzel and Colonel Alfred Kamm? What have they Done?[]

Schüntzel[]

Also known as The Butcher of Paris, Colonel Willi Schüntzel is a vile war criminal who the allies have wanted to kill for quite some time, but so far have not succeeded. Although they do now have a new lead: he is going to a church to find some treasure with his infamous bodyguards, as Violette refers to them as. After sneaking and killing her way through his soldiers, she is able to find Schüntzel, who she correctly predicted would try to hide behind his soldiers to save his own life. Schüntzel instructs his soldiers to not only kill her, but to also "have a little fun" with her beforehand, while derisively stating that it's what "those bitches" want. Thankfully, Violette is able to kill his soldiers, before eventually killing him as well. Peace returned to Paris, at least for one night, but as you'll see soon with our other villain, it's only too good to be true.

Kamm[]

The true villain of the game, Colonel Alfred Kamm is an infamous German mass murderer, and relentless hunter of partisans and rebels, and is described by Violette as the most important mind the German military intelligence. Kamm brutally hangs and murders resistance fighters with his troops, and also frequents an inn called the La Bouef, where he has sex with prostitutes. Violette follows the trail of destruction he leaves behind, and is instructed to kill him. She is able to find a sniping spot, where she shoots a petrol container, lighting him on fire. She almost succeeds at escaping, but is shot by a German, apparently one of his soldiers, leading up to the present. The Germans are slaughtering the area she is being held in retaliation for the attack, killing civilians and rebels alike. They even slaughter a whole village, and lock up a large group of them inside of the local church and light it on fire with them inside. Violette tries in vain to save them, but is knocked unconscious and seemingly killed by the smoke. But not before seeing the leader of the attack; Kamm himself, who apparently survived (albeit with half of his face disfigured). And a scene during the credits seemingly shows Violette somehow escaped, although in real life, she was caught up to, tortured and killed. The only somewhat good thing about the end is the real life knowledge that Nazi Germany lost the war.

Redeeming Qualities?[]

It's ridiculous how one-dimensionally evil these guys are. No! Absolutely Not! The closest I can think of for either of them is Kamm's characterization, as he never speaks any dialogue, but the details of his character are described by Violette and the in-game briefing. He is stated to be strategically brilliant, and frequently sleeps with prostitutes, and is obviously calculated. And he has an entire village annihilated as revenge for one assassin almost killing him, and the rebels protecting her.

Heinous Standard?[]

General Standard[]

They are two mass murderers for Nazi Germany who intentionally murder civilians in addition to military targets, with pictures of their crimes being shown. Schnützel has a picture of one of his crimes shown, is explicitly given the moniker of The Butcher of Paris, with it being said after he is killed, that peace at least momentarily returned to Paris. And he tries sacrifice his soldiers to preserve his own life (a detail explicitly stated in game by Violette, so not fridge horror). And for good measure, he orders his thugs to gangrape Violette before killing her, while also implying that they do this to other women.

Kamm has an even larger confirmed kill count and more story impact than Schüntzel. What he does at the end with church and the villagers alone makes him bad enough, and that is not even mentioning all the atrocities he had perpetrated before that.

In-Story Standard[]

They are the only named villains in the game besides a few throwaway mentions of Hitler (who even then, is only referred to as the führer) and the infamous Oskar Direwanger. Also Stalin gets a passing name drop too, but all of them are offhand mentions. While other atrocities are depicted, like the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto in response to their uprising, that's onscreen only lead by a group of nameless commanders and their soldiers (Jürgen Stroop, the one responsible for it in real life, is neither seen nor mentioned). These guys are the ones with names, and onscreen villainies to their names. And they standout, compared to each other. Kamm has a higher confirmed kill count, and basically destroyed the games protagonist, Schüntzel still has reasonable kill count, and some unique touches, like trying to have her gangraped, and being not-so-subtly hinted to have this done to other women.

System Standard[]

Not much else to say other than what was stated above. While Nazi Germany as a whole is the villainous regime, these guys still carry out atrocities of their own accord and independence.

Final Verdict[]

I'm a yes to both of them. What about you guys?
