May i present you, the descendant of King Cold and Fire Lord Ozai.
What's up y'all!? I'm finally back with another PE proposal. Yeah, it's been a long time since i last make a proposal of Skonk. As i'm admiring the reboot Voltron: Legendary Defender and finished watching the show, i'd better watch the original version of Voltron, which is called Beast King GoLion to see what it looks like. So, it's time to propose the Big Bad of the series, and his is name is Emperor Daibazaal. So, let's get this rolled in, shall we? However, i need to be careful.
What's the work?[]
Beast King GoLion (百獣王ゴライオン Hyaku Jūō Goraion) is a Japanese sci-fi mecha animated series produced by Toei Animation. It was later adapted into Voltron: Defender of the Universe, where the series was edited and trimmed to make the episodes in 1984. The series follows a giant robot called GoLion that is made of five robot lions combined who protects Planet Altea and the entire universe from an evil and oppressive Galra Empire.
Who is he?[]
Emperor Daibazaal (ダイ・バザール大帝王 Dai Bazāru Daiteiō) is a main antagonist of Beast King GoLion. He is a tyrannical and sadistic ruler of the Galra Empire who seeks to conquering planets, capturing prisoners and even used his own subjects including Sincline as scapegoats whenever they failed him. As result of his actions, he served as an archenemy to GoLion team.
What he has done?[]
Daibazaal was born as an illegitimate son of previous emperor and Honerva. He became an emperor since 17th century. At some point in his life, he used Planet Amazon's amazonia flowers to prolong his life. Fifteen years ago, he began conquering Great Goering Nebula, destroying planets and capturing its inhabitants as prisoners. One of the planets he conquered is Planet Altea as an example where he killed King Raimon and the queen, leaving their daughter Fala to be taken under Strategist Raible's care. Despite this, he also made alliance with other planets as well. He raped an Altean woman which they gave birth to Sincline and killed her when she begged him to release the prisoners. He would even abuse him mercilessly and lied to him that his mother died after giving birth to him, which of course had affected the prince's mental health that turns him into what he has become. At some point, his mother Honerva become his witch servant and often gave him advice for his plans, but strangely he never knew their family connection.
After Earth was destroyed by the World War III, the five space pilots were captured by the Galra Empire and are taken imprisoned. Seeing more captured prisoners brought to Planet Galra, he sadistically enjoys watching them getting brutally slaughtered by a Deathblack Beastman. Later, the five space pilots are escaping from Planet Galra by taking one of the slave ships and were eventually attacked by Sadak and his army, which led to them landing on Planet Altea where they met Princess Fala and Strategist Raible. They later formed Team GoLion after bringing back the giant robot GoLion and used it to fight against the Galra Empire.
Because of this, he made several attempts of destroying GoLion and its pilot, one of them is Shirogane who is killed by Honerva and Beastman Galcia during the fight, however Galcia is destroyed later on. Shirogane's death led Fala to replace him as a pilot of Blue Lion and managed to destroy Beastman Mogula. One of the examples of his several attempts to destroy GoLion are sending Bambara to steal Blue Lion and promised Lisa that he will free the slaves from Earth is she agreed to help him.
After failed to defeat GoLion in several ways, he angrily had enough of Sadak and is about to execute him, only for him to change his mind when Sincline arrives and suggest they should convert him into Deathblack Beastman to destroy GoLion. Unfortunately for him, Sadak is eventually destroyed in battle. He went to Planet Mura to see the results of the giant interstellar cannon after it was finished, but GoLion managed to foil their plans and the cannon is now belongs to the Murans.
He arranged a marriage between Sincline and Sahlia of Planet Galleria, but he refused due to choosing Fala over her, much to his annoyance. When Sincline asked him about his mother due to bearing resemblance to Fala, he lied to him again and threaten to never speak about her again. Had enough of him obsessing over Fala, he fought Sincline in a duel and wins. Though he was about to kill Sincline and agreed to turned him into a Deathblack Beastman, Honerva suggests they should use Mechablack Beastmen against GoLion.
At some point, Daibazaal used a Space Wolf to trap GoLion and destroy Planet Altea, however their plans are foiled again by GoLion with the help of the goddess of the universe who originally cast a spell to separate them in order to learn humility.
Enraged over the formation of the Leo Alliance, Sincline suggests they should assassinate the seven world leaders. After Sincline defeats Kougane by injuring him, Daibazaal send Mechablack Beastman Zeta to destroy Castle Gradam and the seven world leaders, but their plans foiled again by GoLion. He send Raible's revived dead son and Galran spy Saint to infiltrate Castle Gradam and sabotage GoLion to steal the giant interstellar cannon from Planet Mura and then used it against them. Though the mission briefly succeeds, GoLion foiled them once again and the cannon is now belongs to the Alteans.
As result, Sincline was sentenced to death and have him imprisoned in the Demon Castle while he and his army went to Planet Altea to launch an attack and destroy the cannon before the GoLion team and the Alteans could used it against them, but only for them to be foiled by the help of Castle Gradam. After they return to Planet Galra, Sincline took over his throne and forced him to fight GoLion with Mechablack Beastman Galra. Though he managed to overpower them at first, GoLion managed to destroyed it alongside Daibazaal.
Heinous standards[]
Well, Beast King GoLion definitely has a very high heinous standards where the rest of the Galra Empire are cruel and oppressive imperialists who are conquered planets, capturing prisoners and exterminating others who gets in their way through the universe. Due to how the show is darker than Voltron, it definitely has violence, murder, cannibalism, implied rape, blood drinking, suicide, etc. Now let's compare with other major villains, shall we?
- Prince Sincline: In his first appearance, he has conquered Great Goering Nebula and presents his father the heads of the kings he had killed. Like his father, he also led an army, killed his subordinates when things don't go in his way, and is swore to defeat GoLion. Due to his obsession over Fala, he kidnapped Princess Amue of Planet Heracles and even raped her. He successfully take over his father's throne and send him to be killed by GoLion. After he founds out that Honerva was his grandmother and the fact he's half-Altean, he kills her and Jaga in rage. After he lost to GoLion for the last time, he brutally slaughtered his kind and even his subordinates in anger for attempting to convince him to surrender. Before his death, he would even hold Ryou hostage to threaten Team GoLion and co.
- Honerva: She is Daibazaal's advisor who would help him and his son Sincline with their plans of conquering Planet Altea and destroy GoLion. Using her occult science, she also create Beastmen to attack Planet Altea and destroy GoLion, which caused the deaths of many lives. She also had her pet cat Jaga to helps her and the Galra Empire with their plans. Like Daibazaal, she despised her grandson Sincline and even tried to kill him after Daibazaal's death before she dies along with Jaga at the hands of the prince. However, she doesn't stand out compared to Daibazaal and Sincline, and even cared for her son as she was devastated at his death and angrily wanted to avenge him by killing her grandson for this.
- Sadak: Daibazaal's top general who leads the invasion from the Galra Empire and would do anything to serve and please him. He has conquered several planets from Great Dark Nebula and even capturing their inhabitants as prisoners. He also have the weak and sick prisoners to get eaten by Deathblack Beastmen. When it comes to GoLion, he would led his army for an invasion at Planet Altea and attempts to destroy them. However, he definitely fails the heinous standards when compared to Daibazaal, Sincline and Honerva due to only following orders and even showed his loyalty to him.
Daibazaal, on the other hand, is proven to be cruel and sadistic tyrant who went on conquering Great Dark Nebula, destroying planets and capturing their inhabitants as prisoners throughout the universe without mercy. He would then send the prisoners to the arena where they are brutally slaughtered by Deathblack Beastmen and taken them to be eaten after that. When it comes to GoLion, he sends his army to invade Planet Altea, launching an attack, and summoning Deathblack or Mechablack Beastmen to destroy GoLion, which leads the death of those lives. Prior to the series, he raped a beautiful Altean woman which later gave birth to Sincline and later killed her when she begged to release the prisoners. Due to the fact and he and his son Sincline have bearing their loathe towards each other, he has no problem abusing him mercilessly and even when he's about to kill him after beats him in a duel, thus making him responsible for everything he had done.
Mitigating factors[]
Lemme tell ya, this guy right here has no genuine redeeming qualities, no matter how vile and cruel he is. Boy, here we go...
He has no problem of using the prisoners to get whatever he wants, such as promising Lisa that he will free the prisoners from Earth if she agreed to help him. When Seidou confronts her about this after her true intentions were revealed, he tried to tell her that Daibazaal would never keep his words and refused to release the prisoners, which proves that he lacks any honor whatsoever. This would even led her to commit suicide after her brother Deathblack Beastman Gagarl was destroyed by GoLion. When an Altean woman begged him to release the prisoners, he also refused before he kills her.
Though he seems to welcomes back his son Sincline, hugged him and later praised him after he return from conquering Great Goering Nebula during his first appearance, well you're wrong. In later episodes, it is clearly shown that he doesn't love Sincline as his son despite calling him that and rather treated him as a scapegoat whenever things didn't get in his way instead. Whenever Sincline succeeds, he only praises him because of his usefulness. However, his abuse on Sincline is clearly affecting his mentality and turns him into what he has become. He also does things to him against his wishes such as ordering him to kill Fala and arranging marriage between him and Sahlia of Planet Galleria, showing that he doesn't respect it at all.
He also doesn't care for Honerva at all such as when he angrily told her to get out of his sight after GoLion destroy Mechablack Beastman Chi Granz, even though she show her care back to him as she became devastated and swore to avenge him after his death. Therefore, he only praised her for her usefulness.
For the rest of the Galra Empire, he didn't cared for his subordinates and rather used them as pawns for his own plans, didn't even care if they were killed during the battle. Though he calls Sadak his top commander, he only saw him to be useful and even attempts to execute him for failing to defeat GoLion several times.
Final verdict[]
I'll give an EASY YES in fact since he has killed many lives, destroying planets and capturing others as prisoners for his own sadistic pleasure. Any questions?
