Mother Sphere destroy Terraphaser

Here, i though she's nothing but GDV, but i'll try one shot after this one's approved as PE. But dammit Mother Sphere, now Agams is gone thanks to you.

All becomes one. All life in all of the universe becomes one. In order to stop sadness and conflict. To exist as individuals creates conflict and makes a future of sadness inevitable. To merge everything and become the absolute being. To become the perfect lifeform. That is the future.
~ Says the so-called "Generic Doomsday Villain" who intends to make everything better but only to make everything worse since her intentions are nothing but out of pure selfishness.

First of all, i thought of her as nothing but a simple plain GDV due to believing she has no characterization. However, i need to recheck back by watching few episodes, especially her lines at the finale and my good ol' friend Jake points this out that she could be discussed at any moment.

Well, it's been two weeks since the finale is premiered and i have watched the whole series by myself, i think it's time for me to rewatch some episodes just to fill out this bad boy and see how heinous she is. And if the proposal is rejected by any moment, i'm fine with that.

Today's proposal will be the series' overarching villain Mother Sphere.

What's the work?[]

Ultraman Decker (ウルトラマンデッカー Urutoraman Dekkā) is a Japanese sci-fi tokusatsu series produced by Tsuburaya Productions that served as the 32nd installment of the Ultra Series and to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Ultraman Dyna. It was first aired on TV Tokyo from July 9, 2022 to January 21, 2023.

The series takes place from few years after the events of Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga where the group of Spheres terrorized through the universe and invade the Earth. It also tells the story of a young man who works at the rice cracker shop named Kanata Asumi who became Ultraman Decker following Sphere's invasion on Earth and later joined team GUTS-SELECT where he met Ichika, Soma, Vice-Captain Kaizaki and Captain Murahoshi and they worked together to fight against Spheres. However, a scientist named Yuichiro Asakage also joins the team, but little did they know that he's actually an Alien Bazdo named Agams who is bent on destroying the Earth out of sheer spite and vengeance after his home planet is destroyed by Spheres.

Who is she?[]

Mother Sphere (マザースフィア Mazā Sufia) is a main antagonist of Ultraman Decker. She is the leader of the Sphere races who is basically responsible for the atrocities and catastrophe her race had done throughout the series, especially the present and the future. She's also responsible for Agams' fall into villainy after his home plant Bazdo is destroyed. Though she doesn't physically appeared in the rest of the episodes, she later becomes the final antagonist and is one of Decker's most deadly enemies he had encountered.

What she has done?[]

At the future timeline, Mother Sphere is a leader and progenitor of the entire Sphere races who is responsible for all of the atrocities and catastrophes her races has caused throughout the universe. The Spheres has absorbed many planets with advanced civilizations and creatures with tremendous powers before assimilate them. Once a certain amount of energy from a planet is absorbed, the Sphere Barrier began to shrink and reach onto its surface, which led to destruction as result. Then, Mother Sphere would later arrived to see the results. One of the planets the Spheres destroyed was Planet Bazdo, which is the reason why Agams wanted to destroy Earth out of sheer vengeance and the Spheres are brought to the present, which is where the series takes place.

Later, Mother Sphere finally arrived after the Spheres merged with Terraphaser and summoned Sphere Obelisk to send a signal for her to come. Seeing Mother Sphere for the first time, Trigger immediately turns into Glitter Trigger Eternity before they fought each other. After Trigger is defeated and fall off to Earth, Mother Sphere appears immediately and easily outmatched the two Ultras. She absorbed Terraphaser's energy before firing her beam Mother Sphera Phalanx at Trigger. She fires her beam at Decker, not even Decker Shield Calibur could withstand this powerful beam. When she's about to fire her beam at Decker again, Agams/Terraphaser only took the hit to protect him, leading to Agams' death while Decker turn back to Kanata. She later release her shockwave and absorbed the energy from the Eternity Core, which restore the Sphere Barrier on Earth.

As Mother Sphere continue to absorb the Eternity Core and producing more Spheres, Kengo transform into Trigger to absorb the energy from the Core and transferred it to Kanata which he could use to transform into Decker and fight against the Mother. She attempt to fire a beam at Decker, but only for him to use Decker Shield Calibur to absorb the attack with HANE2/Terraphaser backed him up. When Decker was about to finish her off, Mother Sphere stops him from unleashing Decker Flash Dynamic against her and fired energy beams at them, which Decker's form revert back to normal. When she's about to finish off Decker, Captain Murahoshi and Vice-Captain Kaizaki takes control of the Nursedessei and fires Nurse Cannon at Mother Sphere. Had enough of the heroes, she unleashes the horde of Spheres and have them to be assimilated.

Mother Sphere then reveals her true intentions of absorbed all life in the universe to become one perfect being and claiming that she only does this because there will be future where there will be no more sadness and conflict, but Kanata and the others dismissed her claims and said they will decide their future where they'll always try again without making any mistakes whatsoever. After they freed themselves from being assimilated by the Spheres, the heroes are standing up against the Mother and fought against her together. Decker and Mother Sphere then fired their respective beams against each other, but Decker's beam is empowered with the power of Eternity Core and it's powerful enough to destroy her, ending her and the Sphere's reign of terror once and for all. Finally, the peace and harmony has return back to the universe as the communication between Mars has returned and the people has return back to Earth as well.

Heinous standards[]

Of course we all knew the heinous standards of the Ultra Series franchise. While most of Kaijus and Seijins are just a generic destroyers or invaders with a personal "Kill-the-Hero" villainy, some of the main villains such as Belial, Tregear, Empera, Lugiel, etc. has done something much worse than them. Of course the universe with the Eternity Core and where Trigger and Decker lives isn't connected to universes from Showa, Heisei, or other ones from New Generation.

Just like it was stated from above "What's the Work?", Ultraman Decker clearly takes place from few years after the events of Ultraman Trigger, so it's time for me to compare with other villains.

We have the Dark Giants, the main villains of Ultraman Trigger. 30 million years ago, they have destroyed the Ultra-Ancient Civilization which may have endangered or killed many lives here while searching for the Eternity Core before they were turned into a stone by Trigger Dark, who later became Ultraman Trigger after touching the Core. Carmeara attempt to commit omnicide by destroying the Earth and engulfed the entire world into darkness after she finally touched the Eternity Core, but she genuinely (yet twisted) loves Trigger dearly especially his old days, her death is played for sympathy, and she later redeemed herself later on after being saved by Trigger and Decker. Darrgon, who does nothing particularly heinous enough to stand out due to having many redeeming qualities other than his fellow Dark Giants, but he also redeemed himself after his death. The last one is Hudram, who destroyed Planet Lishuria and killed its people while leaving the only survivor Ignis to be traumatized and planning to use the Eternity Core to plunge the entire world into darkness so he could become the "god" of this universe. What's surprising is that Hudram lacks any redeeming qualities unlike his fellow Dark Giants.

In Ultraman Trigger movie, we have Zabil and Celebro here. Zabil, who has been researching for the Ultra-Ancient Civilization ruins and helping Akito inventing GUTS Sparklence before he could put his plan in motion. Years later, he stole the GUTS Sparklence from Kengo, sacrificed the members of the cult and transformed into Evil Trigger. He, alongside Celebro, went on rampage through the city which may have endangered many lives there. Celebro, on the other hand, has done many terrible things during the events of Ultraman Z. In order to continue his objective, he possessed Haruki Natsukawa/Ultraman Z and causing rampage alongside Evil Trigger. Unlike Zabil, Celebro has no genuine redeeming qualities.

Throughout the Ultraman Decker series, most of the Spheres are nothing but mindless soldiers who only follows their master's orders like destroying planets and terrorizing many lives here. Agams may have competed with Mother Sphere due to his vengeful desire of destroying the Earth and the entire humanity. However, he is genuinely tragic as he clearly lost his wife and home planet at the hands of Sphere, redeemed himself at the penultimate episode and has a sympathetic death. Of course we have some other villains who doesn't do enough (ex. Yapool) or has any good intentions (ex. Maki Shigenaga).

Mother Sphere, on the other hand, is the only one who could stands out amongst them. In the future timeline, she is basically responsible for the atrocities that her soldiers has caused like destroying many planets and absorbed their energy, making her one of the villains with a highest body count. One of the planets they destroyed is Planet Bazdo, which is what led Agams to fall into villainy and went back to the past (where the series takes place) to destroy the Earth out of sheer spite and vengeance, making her responsible for the Spheres to be brought in the timeline. Once she arrived on Earth just to complete her objection, she definitely crossed the MEH by killing Agams in cold blood, of course it was sad to see him go away just like that. Finally, she attempt to commit omnicide by absorbing the energy from Eternity Core, which could destroy the Earth and killed the entire humanity if she doesn't stopped.

Mitigating factors[]

I could've doubted if she's just a "Generic Doomsday Villain" or not because her characterization isn't "elaborated" yet, but it has shown in the final episode that her lines was heard when Kanata and the others are being assimilated by Spheres, proven her characterization was demonstrated. While the Spheres are just a hive mind, but she is actually the brains and mastermind behind them and the only one with sapience, proving that she has full Moral Agency.

She clearly doesn't care for her soldiers and only treating them as if they were just mere pawns for her own plans. Whenever it comes to working with others (such as Agams and Yapool), she would betray them in favor of getting whatever she wants, even if it means leaving them with a worse fate. She doesn't care for the monsters' suffering when they are agonizing in pain whenever they were assimilated.

If you think what she did makes her a well-intention extremist, well i think you're wrong. She claims that she wants to absorbed all of the lifeforms into a perfect being just to stop all conflict and sadness, but this is nothing but either out of delusions or hypocriscy, as it points out when she absorbed the energy of the Eternity Core just to become a "goddess" and continue her genocidal crusade. Everything she said is clearly to make others suffer for what she has done.

Final verdict[]

Now that i'm finished with the proposal of Mother Sphere, i think it's time to give her an easy yes for all of the atrocities she has caused throughout Decker series, including the destruction of Planet Bazdo and the death of Agams and his wife Laelia. If the proposal is rejected with more downvotes, i don't blame anyone for this.
