Happy new year everyone! This is my second slenderverse proposal, I thought i would start the year with a more minor villain of a series that just ended recently.

Hans Freuhauf IMG 6700

What’s The Work?

Dark Harvest is a found footage horror web series based around the Slender Man that (as I said above) just ended recently. The series focuses on Chris and Alex (and later Heather) as they deal with a cult known as The Order that worships Gorr'Rylaehotep (the name of Slender Man in this series) and must stop them.

Who is he?

Dr. Hans Freuhauf is a minor antagonist in Dark Harvest. He is a former Nazi scientist that was in charge of the Princeton Experiment.

What Has He Done?

Alongside his former Nazi comrades, he was interested interest in mysticism, leading to him worshipping a being known as Gorr'Rylaehotep, a tall faceless monster in a suit. During World War II, he would experiment on concentration camp detainees by mutilating and elongating their limbs to make them appear like Gorr'Rylaehotep. Following the end of the war, he defected to the US during Operation Paperclip and became the head of the Princeton experiment.

The experiment involved emulating an ancient Egyptian ritual at the Atlantic test site by opening a Rift to the Fourth World and summoning Gorr'Rylaehotep using information found on an ancient tablet. Often, he would use human sacrifices (people who he had “liquidated” and be used “essential materials”) to achieve this. While the experiment was ultimately successful, it backfired horrendously as Gorr’Rylaehoep would proceed to massacre all the staff (including Hans himself).

Heinous Standard

I was lucky to survive. You have no idea of the terror I’ve been through. The fate-effects of that encounter, I’m still living with to this day. Imagine for one moment - a bright flash of light. You feel every ounce of your existence being pulled towards this light and your fighting to hold on. And then, suddenly, this monster appears in front of you. Starts tearing people to shreads. I could hear it in my head, making these noises. I wasn’t hearing it in my ears though, I was hearing it in my head. I just ran as far as I could. I don’t know why I survived, no one else did. I don’t know why I survived, no one else did. If this show is ever aired, you won’t be seeing me around for very long. I know two groups in particular that want me gone for exposing this information. The fact of the matter is most people watching this program won’t even believe what I’m saying. But this is all true. There is a monster slowly destroying this world and unless this information is heard, nothing will stop it.
~ Marc McComber who is heavily implied to be the identity of KindVonDerRitter discussing the trauma he gained from the experiment as a result of Hans’ actions.

As Dark Harvest is part of the Slenderverse, there are several villains he needs to be compared to.

First, there’s obviously Slenderman himself who usually drives people crazy and is implied to kidnap and murder children and removes the organs of his victims. Second, there’s HABIT from EverymanHYBRID, a demonic entity who had possessed worlds worst serial killers and war criminals the (Vlad The Impaler, Jack The Ripper, Albert Fish, Joseph Mengle, and Ed Gein) and tormented the EMH crew for several iterations, most infamously possessing Evan and making him slaughter his friends and loved ones in horrific ways and eat his own new born baby. Third, there’s The Speaker, the version of The Rake from Whispered Faith who corrupted a bunch of people into forming a cult for him by making them addicted to his voice, only to dispose of them when they outlived their usefulness. Fourth, there’s Mary Asher from Tribe Twelve, who attempted to give birth to multiple children to sacrifice to Slender Man, gaslighted Milo his entire life by drugging him, and attempted to kill her family multiple times to save her own skin. Fifth, there’s Connor Dwight aka Lines from Stan Frederick who harvested children for the Slenderman and targeted Stan’s friends when he turned against the WeMustCollect organization.

Like with Mary Asher, Hans is mortal human so comparing to Slender Man, HABIT, and The Speaker is unfair as they have good like powers. With Mary and Connor, he very likely outdoes them in terms of body count due to his status as a nazi. Excluding his crimes as a nazi, there’s his crimes painfully mutilating the concentration camp detainees into resembling Slender man, sacrificing several people just to open a portal to summon him, and indirectly causing all the staff (including himself) to be ripped apart and possibly having their organs removed. There’s also his indirect personal villainy towards Marc by traumatizing him and possibly transforming him into the supernatural entity known as KindVonDirRitter who can pause time and see the future and “hear the past”.

With all of those out of the way, how does he compare to the villains contained to Dark Harvest itself. The only major ones I can think of are New Jersey Chapter Overseer and Jesse Laurenzi. With the former, he had Jesse decapitated and ordered the deaths of Chris and Alex’s parents and Alex’s sister. With the latter, he left Chris and Alex’s friend Greg to be disemboweled by Slender Man. Other than those two, I can’t think of any other member that stands out as most of the order members are mainly following orders so they don’t really stand out. Even with this in mind, Hans stands out amongst them with his cruel and gruesome mutilations of the detainees, something The Order never did.

Mitagating Factors

I knew him (Dr. Freuhauf) personally and he didn't seem all that unusual to me. He was a little quiet but nothing that abnormal. I didn't know much about his background either, I was working for Professor Gallagher. He was completely obsessed with this Egyptian myth... Well, it's not really a myth if it's true, now is it? He wanted to open up a rift and see Gorr'Rylaehotep with his own eyes. I think he was part of this cult that was obsessed with it. He had little value for human life so he used them, used all those poor people.
~ Marc McComber describing Hans and how callous he was with human life.

As Marc McComber says, Hans had no value for human life and given what’s described about him, he has no redeeming qualities. His obsession with Slender Man/Gorr’Rylaehotep is nothing more than fanaticism given he was already obsessed with mythicism and legends beforehand. His relationship with his staff is not explored at all so I can’t really say he cares for them.

His implied death of being ripped apart by Slender Man is brutal but not played for sympathy but instead karma for all the experiments he did on the detainees and the people he killed to open the portal in the first place. Not to mention, by summoning Slendy, Hans brought his death entirely onto himself.

Final Verdict

I’ll give him a yes but you guys decide.
