It's the Spooky Month, so for this month, I decided to choose 4 somewhat scary theme candidates, so I can propose them each week. So to start, we go for a classic of the spooky stuff, a vampire, and of course, we are going to take something classic of horror, and make him do a pyramide schem, you know, something scary from these times. Let's start with my new candidate of Moon Knight then.
What's The Work?[]
well... you people know what is Marvel Comics, I don't think I need to explain this again, let's go with the specific.
Moon Knight, is a series of comics of Marvel Comics, about the anti-hero Moon Knight, who after being resurrected by the god Khonshu, he became his fist, now having to fight against a lot of people. Although his reasons may vary, as Moon Knight has three personalities, and sometimes he had to do what Khonshu wanted, like in the Era of Khonshu, where Moon Knight helped the moon god into taking over Earth.
This time, we are focusing in the vol 9 of Moon Knight, again, that happens after all of that stuff about the Era of Khonshu, with Marc being pretty much alone and not being trusted by the other heroes, and Khonshu being locked up in Asgard, now Moon Knight has to continue protecting people that go under the light of the moon, helping a lot of people and defeating a lot of villains, like Zodiac, vampires, another fist of Khonshu and a new person who took the mantle of the Black Spectre. But, this time we will be focusing on the vampire stuff, that is presented as Moon Knight's first mission, who would develop later on, as after Moon Knight rescued Reese and other people who were kidnapped to be transformed into vampires, Moon Knight gets to know that this go deeper than it seems, being an organization that works like a pyramide-schem, being the leader of that group, our candidate of today, Tutor.
Who is him? What Has He Done?[]
Tutor, real name being Kenneth, is the secondary antagonist of this volume of Moon Knight, being a former human, who saw vampirism as the next step on evolution, transforming himself into one, and then tried to forcefully transform a lot of people to create his pyramide scheme type organization, named the Structure. So let's see, he doesn't have that many appearences, so I will be quick, while he was Kenneth, he got to meet Lady Yulan (an ancient vampire), telling her all about what he believed, after that, he kidnap one of her wives, using her blood to become a vampire himself, just to get away from there for 5 years. After that, he came back, blackmailing Lady Yulan into letting him do whathever he wants in New York, threatening her into telling Yi Yang (Lady Yulan's former boss) where she is, knowing how Yi Yang would ravage all the place and killing anyone until getting to Yi Yang.
After those events, Tutor started doing his organization, where it would work like this: He will kidnap multiple people to be transformed into vampires and others to be used as food by them, then he will make those vampires do the same, so the others do the same, and like that, pretty much a pyramide schem, making it very difficult to destroy, as even if you kill multiple vampires, more will replace those ones thanks to how this worked.
Now, in the first chapter, we get to know that a lot of people have been kidnapped for those motives, even one of the protagonists, Reese, was one of the victims, now transformed into a vampire without her wanting to, as she now have to try to stop herself when she smells blood, as she can loose control and kill someone. Later on, as Moon Knight goes into killing vampires and freeing the people who were going to use as food for them, Tutor decides to hire Taskmaster to kill Moon Knight, not because his people were dying...but because Moon Knight became a rival to him, as he now had two vampires at his side. But well, Taskmaster would refuse to do it, not because he cared for Moon Knight, but because he was very afraid of him, so Tutor hired two not really known assassins to take him out. So after that, Moon Knight almost dies, and later on, while he went to talk with Lady Yulan, Hunter's Moon was attacked by the assassins, and killed, so Moon Knight, decided to finally defeat them and beat them up, just in time to present himself into Tutor's little party.
While Moon Knight was doing his Moon Knight stuff, Tutor made a conference with multiples vampires of all around the world, even representants of Dracula, with his plan being to unite forces with all of them, so he can make the Structure to get to a worldwide scale, but in that moment, Moon Knight gets there, and pretty much kills them all, by activating the sprinklers and saying "I purify these water", and because he is somewhat of a priest of Khonshu, this makes the water to be holy water so...yeah, all of them die, although Tutor tries to cowardly get Moon Knight to spare him, which Moon Knight answers by killing him with his own hands.
Interestingly enough, it seems that the vampires used by Tutor, were also used to cause the new saga of the Blood Hunt, with all of that vampire uprising and stuff, but we are not gonna talk about that.
Mitigating Factors[]
No...Like, he is not really that irredeemable over the top villain as the others I proposed...but he doesn't have that much to mention...he is just a guy that sees vampirism as something superiour and wants to forcefully transform people into vampires and let them feast in humans...there's nothing to say about that, not even that he is an extremist, is...nothing, he is pretty bland.
Heinous Standard[]
Even if we have a lot of very heinous vampires in marvel, such as the previously mentioned Yi Yang, maybe Dracula, and pretty much a lot more, the Tutor stands out for being unique in what he does. The Tutor ends up falling into a niche by his pyramide scheme, by having an inmense quantity of people forcefully transformed into vampires, for them to transform more people, while also kidnapping people to be eaten by all of them, having probably hundreds of people caught into all of this, maybe even more, and of course, the worst thing, is that he is trying to go into an even higher scope than a city, going worldwide with this, so taking in account how much of a niche is what he started is, and how he tried to get it into a bigger scale, I think he is fine here too. And of course, to add to all of this, he also has that he is the one responsible of: Reese being a vampire, Hunter's Moon temporaly death, and of course, there is that thing of him planning to let Yi Yang know about Yulan, knowing all the atrocities that she would do to find her, all of these stuff giving him a good plus in heinouness.
Final Verdict[]
Average yes for the Tutor, for having the unique crime of doing an organization of vampires based on a ponzi scheme, having a lot of people forcefully transformed or eaten, and planning to go worldwide with that scheme, while also having personal villany by having Reese transformed into a vampire and getting Hunter's Moon killed.
