~ Colin Evans to Terri Granger. |
This one’s a rather quick one but since it’s the tenth anniversary I decided to go ahead and knock it out.
What's the Work?[]
No Good Deed is a 2014 psychological thriller flick that stars Taraji P. Henson, Idris Elba, Leslie Bibb, Kate Del Castillo, and Henry Simmons. It focuses on a convict who breaks out of prison and convinces a woman named Terri Granger to let him into her residence only for things to go horribly wrong as he eventually decides to place Terri and her child's lives at stake so it is up to Terri to save herself and her daughter in time.
Who is Colin Evans and What Has He Done?[]
Colin Evans is an violent and egotistical serial killer, having started a fight with another person in a bar which led to that person's demise simply because he was looking at his girlfriend and claiming the lives of at least five young women who were his ex-girlfriends. Having been caught and imprisoned, he received a hearing for parole but was rejected for the right reasons. Angered by this, he tricks Officer Reid who was sending him back and guns down him and the driver of the jail van named McKinley after falsely promising that they both can go free after they let him out of the van.
Evans then proceeds to track down yet another of his former girlfriends named Alexis and drives the van to her house where he proceeds to rant about how she cheated him as she has a new interest in a man she encountered in a cafe that was outside. It eventually leads to Alexis fleeing for her life and Evans successfully chasing her down, snapping her neck, and bashing her corpse with a vase after Alexis calls him out and telling him to leave her alone.
Evans then tries driving away but winds up going off the road and slamming the van against a tree during a bad storm. Evans however manages to survive and goes to Terri's home under the pretense of needing to use her own phone to call a tow truck. After a while, Evans is fully let in by Terri after she said her husband will come late and when the storm gets worse. Evans pretends to be friendly with Terri and her daughter named Ryan as Terri explains her background and cleans up his injury.
Evans discovers Terri’s husband in a photo on the refrigerator and comes up with a false story that his ex-fiancée cheated on him. Terri learns that her husband’s not coming home and when the tow truck comes, a realtor named Meg introduces herself to Evans. All three discuss in a dinner table and have a toast and Evans seems to bond with Meg. But when Terri leaves to put Ryan to sleep, Evans bashes Meg’s brains in when she tries to find the truth and disposes of the evidence and briefly turns off the power, playing with Ryan to hide his true nature.
Terri grabs a fire extinguisher and tries to run with Ryan and her infant Sam, but Colins holds her hostage in the bathroom, forcing her to wear different clothes. Evans gets outsmarted by Terri by her calling 911 after explaining his motives as a sick and twisted game and chase her down, coercing her to grab her children and abandon the house, with Terri being horrified seeing Meg’s corpse. Evans has her drive until they are spotted by police.
Evans holds Sam as a test and Terri is asked to step out of the vehicle by police. Terri gives out too much info and Evans guns down the officer twice, blaming it on her. Evans eventually arrives at Alexis’ home and he sadistically amuses that he liked watching the life drain from her eyes after the time spent together, before tying Terri up. Terri unties herself and warns Jeffrey Granger, Alexis’ ex to call the police as she, Ryan and Sam go downstairs. Terri locks Sam and Ryan in the bathroom to protect them as Evans walks back into the residence. Terri waits for Evans to come upstairs. Evans is stabbed again by Terri who finally realizes that he wanted vengeance on Jeffrey, Evans attempts to finish her off while making it clear he intends on going after the kids next, but Terry shoots him several times until he plummets out of the window and into the ground: killing him instantly.
Heinous Standards?[]
He manages to clear the bar for a thriller. Evans had a killing spree of about six innocents, most of his were his ex-girlfriends after kidnapping them, gruesomely murders Alexis and Meg, the latter of which did nothing to him, coldly fires bullets onto a cop for getting in his way, and tries to add Terri, Jeffrey, Ryan, and Sam to his kills while holding the former and her children hostage for a good chunk of the movie.
Mitigating Factors?[]
Do I really need to say anything? Colin does act friendly and charismatic to most people but it's clear that he's a self-centered sadist who throws random fits and is heavily implied to have a disdain for women in general and has zero excuse or tragic backstory provided to explain the reason why he's the way he is. Overall, I'd say he has nothing that is disqualifying.
Final Verdict?[]
A solid yes from me.
