Robert Doob: What are you gonna do? Shoot me?
Karen McCann: You broke into my house with the intent to do me bodily harm. The law says I have the right to protect myself.
Robert Doob: What? You want me to say I'm sorry? It could have been anybody. I don't even remember what she looked like. It's nothing personal.
Karen McCann: She was seventeen years old. She was five-foot two. She had brown eyes. Her name was Julie. She was my daughter.
Robert Doob: She was a great f-f-f-fuck.
~ Doob having trouble with Karen regarding who was his victim before proceeding to gloat about it when she gives him the information.
Doob putting his hands on Julie

She was a great f-f-fuck. What a repulsive scumbag.

This post… is a dedicated tribute to Donald Sutherland, who tragically passed away a few weeks back. Hope you enjoy.

What’s the Work?[]

Eye For An Eye is a critically panned 1996 thriller directed by John Schlesinger in one of his last movies and starring Sally Field, Kiefer Sutherland. Ed Harris, Beverly Di‘Angelo, and Joe Mantenga. Centering on mother/husband Karen McCann and her husband/father Hank McCann, during their six-year old daughter Megan’s birthday party, their 17-year old daughter is attacked and brutally ended by a man covered in various tattoos. When he’s free based on falsified evidence, it’s up to Karen to take matters to her own hands before he can claim more lives.

Who is Robert Doob and What Has He Done?[]

Robert Doob is a seemingly charismatic and honest guy who secretly is a vicious, cruel bastard that gets off on murder and rape. Knocking on the door to 17-year old teenager Julie McCann’s house while she was setting off birthday decorations, Doob restrains her with his bare hands and begins to beat and then force himself on her, before silencing her forever by shattering a ice sculpture. Julie’s mother, Karen hears the entire thing on her cell phone and calls the police to find the suspect. Doob is caught at Jon’s Market over DNA evidence and is captured by the officers. It’s indicated that he’s been in and out of prison many times in the past.

During the trial, Doob is seen tapping his fingers and menacingly staring at Karen and her husband Mack. Unfortunately for the latter two, Doob is let go scot free due to DNA testing not being provided. Doob mocks and taunts Karen by saying “sorry” in a slithering tone, winking and smiling at her but is forcibly tackled over by Mack before the court gets him off of Doob. Doob is next seen walking out of a coffee shop and callously tosses a cigarette at an elder lady before dumping the rest of his hot coffee on a dog who walks up to him. Doob sees Karen spying on him and asks her if she needs anything but she declines.

Doob then carries out a delivery and skirting over other cars with a sick laugh, not caring if they are put in danger. Doob opens the doorbell to another woman’s house and gets his money, promising to see her again and stalking her through the window. Doob once again witnesses Karen as he pees on her lawn. Doob is then approached by Detective Joe Denillo and threatens to gun him down with Doob almost succeeding in tempting him, wanting to get him fired and sentenced to life in jail. Doob is then kicked in the groin after getting a warning from Denillo to stay away from ladies and failing to goad Denillo into shooting him dead.

Karen watches a video of Doob’s arrest, but Doob arrives at Megan’s school, ruthlessly pushing a mild teasing child over, and puts on a friendly guise to convince her to trust him. Doob comments she looks beautiful with a creepy grin before leaving. Doob later threatens Karen that he will rape and kill Megan if she continues messing with him. Doob repeatedly drumsticks his legs while watching a tape and eats ice cream at his apartment. Doob proceeds to sexually assault the woman who he delivered to earlier when she doesn’t give him more cash and slams her face in the table multiple times to end her life.

Doob is withheld in a jail cell yet is getting away with it again due to the proof being useless. Doob discovers that Karen went inside his residence and trashed it as he’s walking back. Karen also finds a photo of a girl he smashed the frame of (which confirms yet another victim) and drugs he stashed in a cabinet. Doob calls Karen a “bitch” and takes a subway, disguising himself before heading upstairs to claim the lives of her and the rest of the family, only to find Karen pointing a gun at him. Doob says he doesn’t remember what Karen’s daughter looked like but calls her a great fuck as she fights him off. Doob plans to rape and finish her off, but she fires bullets into many areas of his body, making him collapse and fall on her body.

Heinous Standards?[]

The only notable villain and yeah, he has enough to clear it. Doob is explicitly stated to have multiple victims: we witness Julie and the Hispanic woman clearly struggling to break free of Doob’s grasps as he forcibly beats and has sex with them against their consent and after that he respectively shatters an ice sculpture on Julie and drags the other one against a table, ending them. Julie btw is only a teenager, making him a ephebophile.

But that ain’t all he does: he spends the film doing lots of cruel actions such as repeatedly mocking/taunting Karen and Hank by saying “s-s-sorry” with a wicked smirk, deliberately using Julie’s speech issues and provoking Hank into attacking him, Doob landing at least one punch against him as he then walks away, driving into traffic recklessly with no regard as to if he crashes into people or not, pouring hot coffee on a dog and laughing uproariously, tossing a cigarette onto a old lady’s face, pushing another kid, trying to get Detective Joe to pretending to befriend Megan and making sexual gestures and behavior to her and later explicitly threatens to Karen that if she doesn’t stop gathering information on him such as his address and hobby, he’ll make an exception for “kiddie pussy” to rape Megan, keeping a photo of a previous victim in his own apartment with the frame around it having broken by him, and lastly intends to finish off Karen and the rest of her family. While Hank and Megan weren’t there, he didn’t know at the time so it still counts as a heinous crime and proceeds to say “it could’ve been anybody” when he can’t clarify on who Julie is. When Karen gives it out, he says she was a wonderful thing to mess with before getting the drop on Karen and walking downstairs to do what he does best: rape and kill.

Doob has low resources as someone who brings groceries for a living yet is able to do the worst he can with them, Karen herself ain’t exactly a saint as she proceeds to stalk and is training to murder, but she was acting out of revenge and even when she accidentally attacks someone else: she clearly apologizes to them. Her victim? Doob himself who absolutely deserves what was coming to him. With all of that being said, I see no problem with him qualifying.

Mitigating Factors?[]

Nope, nada. Doob is more than capable of faking politeness, especially to Megan (they share a mud pie and exchange words together) who, being a child is blissfully unaware of what Doob really is: a cunning and evil sadist who has no qualms with doing vile actions as long as he thinks they are good. Doob, as said above goes the extra length/mile to be a complete piece of shit to nearly everyone else he encounters with a smile. So, Doob basically lacks any redeeming traits.

Final Verdict?[]

A yes to another Kiefer Sutherland candidate.
