Alright, this punk is one of the reasons that Thailog does not keep.

What is the work?[]

The setting of Gargoyles takes place a thousand years after the massacre of the Wyvern Clan, the castle the petrified survivors resided in was bought out by David Xanatos who moved it on top of a skyscraper, which broke the curse that kept the survivors petrified for the past thousand years.

Now I will include information from series creator Greg Weismann's comic book continuation published by Slave Labor Graphics and Creature Comics which ignores all of the infamous season 3 but one episode.

One specific comic book arc involves Brooklyn being sent into the past, via the Phoenix Gate, where he gets caught up in a battle during 997 A.C., a time Gillecomgain and King Constantine III were both still alive.

My candidate is the first half of the Medieval ne'er-do-wells and I will review him in a chronological viewpoint.

Who is Gillecomgain? What have done?[]

Gillecomgain is a historical figure who grew up to become a gargoyle killer after Demona scarred him while checking the stables when she invaded them in search of food. He has since desired revenge for this scarring.

When the Phoenix Gate sent Brooklyn to Scotland during ancient times, he is spotted by King Constantine and his soldiers with Gillecomgain among them. Constantine gives the order to kill Brooklyn with Gillecomgain leaping at the first opportunity and being thrown backwards in response.

When Brooklyn retreats, King Constantine issues a wanted poster to be posted on Tom, his mother, and several of his friends, Gillecomgain called shotgun at the chance of doing so.

In the morning after Brooklyn saves Finella and Tom's mother from the mob, Gillecomgain enters a cave with Constantine and finds gargoyles in it. Gillecomgain smashes them to pieces promptly, with Constantine being surprised by how efficient he was.

After Gillecomgain kills the gargoyles there, he helps put up another wanted poster. After Gillecomgain aided in Constantine shaving himself bald like the latter had been in history, Brigti and brother Valmont arrived as the king summoned. Although Gillecomgain was asked by his father to come with him, Constantine denies this as to keep Gillecomgain by his side as he finds him useful.

We also learn that Gillecomgain was helping hunt down Gargoyles who were forced into hiding after the edict Constantine instated. Gillecomgain, while helping Constantine with his war paint, also supported the king making the rules when the latter ordered the death of a messenger from the faction they've opposed.

When the battle between Constantine's faction and the Grim's begins, Brooklyn, Demona, and the last clan of Gargoyles in the country arrive to help the Grim when Gillecomgain knocks the Grim's son off his horse and tries to kill him. This is also during the time of the moon where Constantine declares Gillecomgain a Hunter before the former gets slain in battle.

Years later, a masked Gillecomgain arrives to attack Findlaech when Macbeth tries to save him only for Gill to kill Findlaech by sending him down a fatal fall. While Demona does save Mac, Gill gets away. Meeting with Prince Duncan, Gillecomgain reports that he killed Findlaech but failed to kill Macbeth, but he gains stewardship of Moray.

Later, Gillecomgain engages Demona in battle where he fights Demona until she is forced to retreat. Later on, Grouch was arranged to marry Gillecomgain by Duncan in which was devoid of love. Gillecomgain later declines to kill Macbeth who was an heir to Finlaech beloved by his people as it could lead to Gillecomgain being found out.

In response, Duncan sold out Gill to Macbeth and claims killing him would start a war. Later after Gillecomgain subjected Macbeth to a fight where the former used underhanded tactics, Demona arrived and fought him before she pulls him overboard the castle walls where one smack from her tail sends the hunter falling to his death when he clinged to her for his dear life.

Any Freudian Excuse or other redeeming factors?[]

I understand you people may argue that Gillecomgain being scarred by a bad gargoyle could justify a genocide of innocent members, but I have a small list of people who agreed with me that it's too weak to justify his crimes.

  1. The Average Dimentio: "Yeah"
  2. Sun9141: "Yes."
  3. Absolutionist: "Sounds petty"
  4. Ordeaux26: "Seems like he should be good in that regard"
  5. The Pro Wrestler: "I also agree" & "it isn't a good excuse"
  6. DevilSlayer123: "That makes sense. Since you can't blame an entire species for what one person did."
  7. Basilsiraj: "Yes"
  8. Misry6: "This sounds like another case of Freudian Excuse is No Excuse;"
  9. Tatiana Cortez: Sure.
  10. Strider Kage: "There's never an excuse to harm people that did nothing wrong (or not even met the character) to a character. Being tangentially related by race (or any other element) to a bad person isn't a good reason to go hunt them all down, regardless of the situation."
  11. The King Peacock: "Sure"
  12. The Humble Nintendo Master: "I would agree that Gillecomgain's excuse is very weak for wanting to exterminate the whole race,"
  13. Dizzy Headn: "I agree to that, too."
  14. Red Chevelier: "Sure"
  15. Sppople: Yeah

The marriage Gill had with Grouch had no love and instead had several or more unfortunate implications in it.

He did not appear to get along well with his father, again I cannot see how this justifies his gargoyle genocide. Heck, he made no mention of his father after the latter died.

Gillecomgain's reasoning for not killing Macbeth when Duncan ordered him was a pragmatic action to prevent a potential series of questions about the death of the latter's father as Gill could get in trouble for it.

I also do not find his loyalty to Constantine or Duncan redeeming as he committed evil through them.

This guy also made use of underhanded tactics in the last two of the fights of his life and even used Grouch as a shield before his actions put her in danger of falling to her death.

While he did had a goal of revenge, we only know he wanted revenge on Demona and was uncaring if it involved other gargoyles getting caught in the crossfire.

Heinous Standard[]

Okay Gillecomgain is a human and we must consider that there are limits to what a human can do, plus there is evidence that he had a hand in the slaughter of nearly all the gargoyles in Scottland and series creator Greg Weisman's comics show him smash a number of pertrified ones apart onscreen. He even called the shots when he nearly killed Brooklyn after Constantine ordered the gargoyle dead.

What's more, the gargoyles aiding Brooklyn and Demona were stated to be the last clan of gargoyles alive and a group of soldiers that were seemingly killed by Demona made reference to the Hunter (Gillecomgain) wiping her kind off the earth.

He also is the earliest known member of a legacy of gargoyle hunters called the Hunters and their trademark mask was based on the facial scars he had, but I do not feel the other members of the hunters have reached Gillecomgain's body count, also the ones in the 20th century have had more resources than him. I'm also gathering that the Quarry Men themselves had also more resources than Gille yet they seem more akin to "kill-the-heroes".

What is more, Gillecomgain on his own had neither magic or cybernetics in his skillset.

He appeared in three episodes and three comic book issues.

From what I've gathered, the entire slaughter of the gargoyles by other parties in England is completely offscreen and we only see Duncan's son attack Demona. The slaughter of several gargoyles by an unseen group of poachers was also offscreen.

I still consider Hakon personal enough as he killed many beloved members of Goliath's clan and tormented him with zombie-like stone puppets of said members who were killed in Hakon's horrid massacre. Also Hakon never learned to read.

While a group of native American people, or whatever they were, have been said to have killed off most of the Gargoyles of their area, the gargoyles appearing in that episode turn out to be illusions manifested by Raven, leading it to be questionable whether or not the massacre actually happened. So that one is definitely out of the question.

Ultimately, Gill's body count being too high is another reason Thailog does not count.

Final Verdict?[]

Sounding like a yes.
