Hi! After proposing Old King CaseOh, I decided to do more villains from the world of Ice and Fire. Might be proposing Tyanna of the Tower next. Now these guys appear in the show but I haven't seen it yet, and we're only on season 2. Anyways, let's dive in!
What's the work?[]
A Song of Ice and Fire is a epic novel series, currently unfinished, that deals with dragons, knights, and LOTS of sex. Today we're dealing with two people from the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that took place long before the current story. The war is between the Greens, supporters of Aegon II, and the Blacks, supporters of Rhaenyra, his sister. Today we're proposing two of the worst people during the war.
Who are the Two Betrayers?[]
The hulking and brutish Hugh Hammer and the hedonistic and alcoholic Ulf the White are Dragonseeds, Targaryen Bastards from the Black Isles, who were recruited by the Blacks to help win because they can ride dragons, and fought bravely at the battle of the Gullet, being granted knighthood status. However, they desired to be lords and let their lust for power corrupt them. Hugh also beat a knight to death over a dispute with a girl, while Ulf rode butt naked drunk on his dragon to a nearby town.
The two would earn their title as the Two Betrayers when they join the Greens by burning hundreds of their own men alive at the First Battle of Tumbleton, a very prosperous and large city. The dragonfire ends up burning all throughout the town, killing thousands, including their own men, as well as people who drowned trying to escape. The gates were opened and the Greens then proceeded to sack the city brutally. How brutally? Well girls as young as 8 were raped, rich men tortured to death, surrendering soldiers cut down in the streets, and BABIES impaled on spears! Ulf and Hugh gleefully participate, with Ulf raping 3 women a night and feeding those who don't satisfy him to his dragon, and Hugh sleeping with the widow of one of his victims.
They then basically became dictators, taking over what's left of the ruined town (Which was burned to a crisp and never rebuilt, and their soldiers were looting and deserting in mass), as the leaders of the town, Ormund and Brynden Hightower were killed, and their cousin Hobert was very incompetent. During a meeting with the Blacks, Hugh and Ulf wanted to be king and Lord of Highgarden, a very important castle in the series. After Hugh insulted the young Daeron Targaryen and basically said his dad should have beat him more, he then boasted of his dragon Vermithor and basically all but declared he would burn everything in his path until he got his fancy chair, as he boasted of conquering with his dragon (Aegon the first, who was a warmonger but rather noble, did the same and he was twice the man Hugh was, so it would have been VERY bloody) When a Lord named Roger Corne knocked off his homemade iron crown, he nailed horseshoes to his head, and the ensuing fight left three dead and 12 wounded.
Both sides agreed that both the Two Betrayers were too ambitious and vile to be left running around, so Hobert and a few of the remaining Green Lords collaborated with another Dragonseed, Addam Velaryon, to take them down. During the Second Battle of Tumbleton, both Daeron and Hugh were killed, by their tent collapsing and getting their guts split open by Jon Roxton respectively. Roxton then died, supposedly by slipping on Hugh's entrails. (He murdered a Lord and raped his wife in front of the corpse, so no big loss) Ulf survived, as he was passed out drunk in his favorite inn, the Bawdy Badger, and planned on marching on to the Iron Throne when he woke up. He later was poisoned by Hobert, who poisoned himself to prove the wine he was using wasn't poison, and Ulf went to sleep and died peacefully. Bummer. Least Hugh got what he deserved.
Heinous Standard?[]
Both set it pretty easily. They're basically no name thugs who happen to get dragons (As I said, they have a army, but they're deserting en mass, plus not every Green soldier was loyal to them and a bunch of them died during the first battle) yet are responsible and take part in probably one of the worst sacks in the history of ASOIAF, with BABIES even being caught in the crossfire and them getting impaled, young girls getting raped, and surrendering soldiers being cut down. Tumbleton was truly a prosperous city but since then, it has never been rebuilt. THAT's how bad it was. These two really go to show how awful dragons can be under the wrong hands. Sure, they didn't LEAD it, but they took part and are responsible for the gates being open. Plus, Hugh basically saying he was gonna burn down everything till he got a chair makes him stand out.
Mitigating Factors?[]
Lol nope. They don't care for their men and when Hugh dies, Ulf decides to continue without him and doesn't care at all. We don't know anything about their backstories other than them being bastards which isn't played for sympathy, and they only care for their dragons as beasts of war.
Verdict?[]
Easy yes.
