It's time for mt first PE proposal for a Hunter x Hunter villain. At first I thought no villain was PE due to massive heinous standards and most villains having mitigating factors. However, after thinking it through, I believe Johness the Dissector qualifies as PE.

What's the Work[]

Hunter x Hunter is a Shonen actiomn/adventure anime and manga. It is about a young boy names Gon, as well as his friends, who strive to be "Hunters" an elite group of warriors in their world. Hunter x Hunter is acclaimed by fans and critics for its creative storytelling, complex characters, and mature themes.

Who is He? WHat has he done?[]

Johness was a serial killer operating in Zaban city. He enjoyed killing people will his bare hands and ripping them apart. He targeted his victims indiscriminately, killing men, women, and children. He killed for no other reason than that he enjoyed it. He killed 150 people before he was arrested. When he was arrested, he managed to tear the flesh of an arresting officer. For his crimes he was sentances to around 1000 years in a prison called Trick Tower. It should be noted that we see flashbacks of his crimes, so they count as onscreen villainy.

He was selected by the Hunter exam committee to participate as an obstacle in the Hunter Exam. The inmates could have time off their sentences if they delayed the examinees. The main characters had to defeat him and 4 other inmates in a contest of their choosing in order to move forward. Johness was the last one to participate. When his handcuffs were electronically removed, he ripped off part of the wall with his bare hands. He faced Killua for the challenge.

He declared he had no interest in the contest; he justed wanted to rip flesh apart. Killua agreed to a death match. As Johness stepped forward to try and kill Killua, Killua ripped out Johness's heart easily, killing him.

Heinous Standards[]

The reason there hasn't been other HxH proposals is because the Heinous Standards are massive. Mass murder and torture is pretty common. The Phantom Troupe has killed thousands and committed genocide against the Kurta. The Chimera Ants were planning on killing millions in East Gorteau, although they failed. The Ants still killed thousands before being defeated.

The reason Johness should qualify is because of having virtually no resources whatsoever. Most of the other mass murderers that we know of were Nen Users (capable of powerful magic and combat abilities). The Troupe and the Ants were all powerful Nen users. Genthru was implied to be close to the skill of a Troupe member in terms of his combat ability. Johness has no Nen abilities at all.

The only other non-Nen-Users with high kill counts are the Officer and Soldier level Chimera Ants seen before the Ants learned Nen. It is unlikely any of them have killed 150 people individually. Even if they did, they are all much stronger than Johness. Even though the lower level Ants didn't know Nen, they were able to hold their own against Gon and Killua, who had just defeated Genthru and the Bombers, a group of powerful Nen terrorists. Conversely, Killua killed Johness instantly even though Killua hadn't been trained in Nen yet.

To summarize, Johness killed 150 people in a horrifically brutal fashion, despite being one of, if not the weakest villain in the series.

Mitigating Factors[]

None at all. We don't know much about him, but he never expressed ta he cared about anyone or anything. He specifically stated to Killua that his only desire was to rip flesh apart. He didn't even care about helping his fellow inmates get reduced sentences. (In the 2011 anime, he actually killed fellow inmate Majtani, but this is non-canon).

Conclusion[]

Despite the high heinous standards of HxH, I believe Johness qualifies due to massive kill count, being one of the weakest villains in the story, and having no mitigating factors.
