Comic-excerpt-the-joker-vs-nazis-injustice-year-zero-joker-v0-mi6b6zm404g91

Ok, here with another removal. This is a case where I was for this candidate counting originally however after some solo Evalution and talking about it with other trustworthy users I honestly think that a certain scene despite being a short scene (in fact it's the scene pictured above this paragraph) is actually disqualifying. So, I will take this opportunity to share with you why I do not believe he counts and hopefully we come to a sound conclusion based of it. So let us begin without further ado, with thanks to Ordeaux26 for permission to make this removal.

What is the Work?[]

Injustice God's among Us is a superhero fighting game made by NetherRealm studios. It takes place in an alternate world where Superman (Injustice) after the loss of Metropolis, and his wife and unborn child goes bad after killing Joker (Injustice) and forms One Earth Regime which oppress the people of the planet with Batman, leader of the Insurgency being the only opposition. Batman after 5 years of fighting Superman summons versions of the Justice league from another timeline in a desperate attempt to stop Superman once and for all.

Tying into the games is a prequel comic series that tells the story of years 1-5 about Superman's fall to the Darkside as he slowly becomes a tyrant. Before even that however is a comic books series calls Zero Year which takes place a year before Joker nuked Metropolis where Joker attempts to gain the power of a god, which is the story we will be focusing on today.

Who is He?[]

Well, he is Joker, you might have heard of him. An insane criminal clown who is archenemy of Batman who thrives of chaos and death. After finding out that Batman considers Superman incorruptible, he decides to "test it" by kidnapping a pregnant Losis Lane, putting a heart monitor on her which if her heart stops would activate a nuclear bomb in metropolis. He then infects Superman with fear toxin which causes him to accidently kill Losis and his unborn child which kills the millions of people in Metropolis. Just as Joker predicts Superman kill Joker out of hate much to delight of Joker, knowing he turned Superman into something much darker.

Why doesn't He count?[]

Well, there is no denying that this is one of the most heinous versions of Joker, I mean tricking a man into kill his wife and unborn child which kills his entire city he was sworn to protect is very low and it turned Superman into the Tyrant he is today making Joker responsible for most of the events of the story. There is absolutely no doubt he is heinous enough and if we were looking at just the games and most of the comics Joker would have no issues being PE.

The actual issue comes in the after mentioned Zero-year Comic series. In the comic Joker busts out of jail Andre Chavard who was a boy commando back during WW2. After Joker forces him to help him, he shares to Joker an old WW2 story where the Convo that is pictured above the removal happens. In case you skipped it Joker tells Andre to hurry up and get to the part of the story about killing Nazis which causes Andre to say that he thought Joker would like Nazis which genuinely angers Joker with him saying "I'm American. I F@@@ hate Nazis!!! I am a homicidal manic, not a traitorous bigot!!" He says this all with a disgusted face. In this scene Joker shows hatred for Nazis despite being evil himself due to them being bigots which is not a trait he has meaning he has standard against Nazis. Now normally I would just end it there, but this has been something debated for a while about whether it is mitigating or not meaning I am going to have to go point by point and explain the counter arguments and circumstances surrounding this scene.

NOTE: Do not skips this upcoming section, it is important to understand this before voting as I do address the counter arguments against him counting so, please read this as there is chance you could end up using a point I already addressed against or for him in a way that was already explained. Even if you still believe he does not count I would appreciate it if my points were still acknowledged in your vote. Ok let us start.

  • "The Joker goes on to kill millions of people, that makes him just as bad as Nazis therefore he is a hypocrite:

If he said he hated Nazis for killing millions then sure, but he said he hated them for being "traitorous bigots" which is not something he engages in, bigotry. Yes, the Joker is a horrible person but if he shows standards over r bigotry and does not subvert it, it will count as a standard.

  • "The Joker hates authoritarians and killings that are not random because he is an agent of chaos, so he does not Hate Nazis for moral reasons but rather because they are not like him. :

This is probably the best counter argument because I could see it being true in different circumstances as most versions of the Joker are big on the agent of Chaos thing and I could see this as reason for him hating Nazis without it being for moral reasons. I have two issues with this argument though.

  1. It kind of assumes all versions of the Joker will share the same traits which is not exactly true, one Joker might value being funny over chaos, or one might be trying to send a message to society like Heath Ledgers Joker. So not all Jokers share the same beliefs so I feel we should be more open with what this Joker thinks about things.
  2. The Joker never says he hate them for being authoritarians he is just disgusted at the notion of Bigotry and says he hates Nazis for being bigots. This treated as a moral thing rather than just a matter of preference in killing especially with his reaction. The whole "he just likes doing things a certain way which is not redeeming" feels like it's reading more into it then the narrative wants us to.

That said this is the best argument for keeping him in my opinion, if you still disagree takes my points into account for this argument before voting while using it.

  • "It's just a reference to the Batman and Captain America crossover, which was funny, it's not meant to be taken seriously:

Ok so if you do not know the Joker hating nazis thing does not originate from Injustice, in that crossover he is happy to work with Red Skull until he finds out he is a Nazi and decides out of having legitimate standards for associating with a Nazi to betray Red Skull. So, the Injustice line is a reference to the crossover, however just because it a meta reference does not mean we just throw it out as redeeming. I already find it suspect that Joker is showing a trait that is considered redeeming in the crossover despite it being kind of funny there too. Joker begins this by says how he likes seeing Nazis die, he is disgusted by someone saying he would like Nazis, he says he hates Nazis because even if he is a homicidal manic, he is not a bigot. This goes beyond a joke if we are establishing it as trait now. So, I do not see it being a reference as a reason just to throw it out as redeeming when Joker is making it very clear why he hates Nazis which goes beyond a joke to me. This is not something like Ramsay saying Cannibals is "savage" as a joke at Theon's expense, this seems like an actual standard.

  • "The Joker is lying:

We have no reason to assume he is lying, unless he did something to immediately contradict this, we should take this has fact. His face of absolute disgust also seems hard to fake to me so in all honesty, so this argument seems to not have much ground to stand on.

Final Verdict[]

A cut in my opinion but it is up to you all to decide.
