Hello everyone! I hope you're doing well! Today I'd like a little bit of your time to propose Porky Minch from the Mother series to be Pure Evil. Giygas might have gotten rejected, but I think Porky might have a chance. A few people from the Giygas proposal recommended this so let's get started!
What is Mother? What's the work?[]
Earthbound/Mother 2 is the second installment of the Mother/Earthbound trilogy of JRPG games as well as the game in the series Porky is introduced in. The games are well known for their humour, but also their occasional darkness and emotion.
Who is Porky? What has he done?[]
Earthbound/Mother 2[]
Porky is introduced in Earthbound as simply the protagonist Ness's obnoxious neighbor. However, after Porky goes with Ness to a meteor that crashed and learned of Ness's destiny, Porky took a much darker path. Porky essentially became the main antagonist Giygas's right-hand man and wanted to use Giygas as a tool to destroy the universe and kill Ness as well as the other chosen 4, Jeff, Paula, and Poo. Porky is seen throughout the game falling to darkness and corrupting the world lending assistance to Giygas to spread darkness and destruction. At the end of the game, the chosen 4 confront Giygas and Porky in the Devil's Machine where Porky explains that Giygas can't think rationally which implies he was manipulating Giygas the entire time for his power. Porky tries to kill Ness and co. but when he fails he summons Giygas to destroy everything. Ness and the other chosen 4 defeat Giygas, with the help of the people of the world they helped along their journey, and Porky flees.
Mother 3[]
Porky's control over the world isn't learned of until the end of the game. It's revealed that Porky had been traveling across time and space manipulating the people and the events of various timelines and even forcing Dr. Andonuts and the Mr. Saturns into creating an indestructible capsule for him. Porky took over the world leading the Pigmask Army, who were responsible for the corruption of the world including disturbing the Dragos leading them to kill Lucas and Claus's mother Hinawa. Claus goes missing shortly after Hinawa's death. Lucas and co. confront Porky in New Pork City and go through the different levels of his tower. Porky reveals he was aware of the seven needles that would awaken the Shadow Dragon and wanted the Masked Man to pull them with his dark heart so that the Shadow Dragon would awaken malicious and destroy the world. Porky is defeated and retreats into his Absolutely Safe Capsule where due to his immortality as a result of him traveling through space and time so much leads to him being forever trapped in the capsule forever. It is then revealed that Porky turned Claus, the protagonist Lucas's brother, into the Masked Man that he used to pull the needles. Lucas and Claus get into a heartbreaking fight where their mother's spirit calls out to them and returns Claus back to normal. Claus then commits suicide after the guilt he suffered from all of the pain he caused. A heartbroken Lucas then pulls the final needle, making the Shadow Dragon benevolent, and saves the world.
Heinous Standard? Does he stand out?[]
Absolutely. I'm terms of heinousness, he worked with Giygas to destroy the universe and debateably used him as a tool to destroy the universe, he tried to kill his long time friend Ness to accomplish this goal, he forced Dr. Andonuts and the Mr. Saturns to work for him, he took Lucas's brother and turned him against Lucas without any remorse, he was responsible for Hinawa's death and, again, showed no remorse, he took over the world and tyranically ruled over it, he tried to kill Lucas directly, and he ultimately wanted to use the Shadow Dragon to destroy the world basically because he wanted to be the only one left. He even taunts Lucas constantly despite the loss of his mother and brainwashed Claus and used him despite the loss of his mother. Need I mention the fact that pulling the needles kills the Magipsies, the guardians of the needles. Understandable in context of Lucas pulling them since they were essentially sacrificing themselves, but Porky had no problem using Claus to pull them for his goal. Porky was the creator of the Pigmask Army who caused countless destruction and oppression including them experimenting on animals and creating chimeras, including the Dragos which were, again, responsible for Hinawa's death. Porky is also shown to act very childishly and shown amusement out of everything he does. When compared to Giygas, he stands out as Giygas became a mindless monster and, as stated, one could argue that Porky was using Giygas which would mean Porky was really the one pulling the strings.
Screen time? Do we see his actions?[]
While Porky isn't shown on-screen in either game very often, he was shown attempting to kill Ness, Lucas, ect. on-screen as well as being responsible for all the damage done to the world which is clear throughout Mother 3. This includes seeing the Pigmasks and Chimeras as active antagonists. Also, Claus is shown pulling some of the needles on-screen which was because Porky brainwashed him in the first place and forced him to in order to destroy humanity.
Redeeming qualities? Reasons he couldn't qualify?[]
The only thing that comes to mind is the fact that he kept Ness's Yo-Yo after he took over the world, but considering he tried to kill Ness, it's likely this falls under the obsession/perversion category. Without that considered, he still took over the world, was responsible for Hinawa's death and taunted Lucas about it, tried to kill Lucas, and tried to destroy the world twice including manipulating Giygas on one of the stated occasions demonstrates that he shows no remorse over his actions and even seems amused by them.
Freudian Excuse?[]
While it was shown in the game at the beginning that he has been abused, I don't agree that it's any excuse to justify everything he's done. He basically became an abuser except on a more extreme level.
Final Verdict[]
I'd say he definitely qualifies but I'm certainly interested in your opinions. As far as I'm aware he qualifies but he he shouldn't be sure to explain why. As always, thanks for reading! Have a great day!
