“ | People of Earth, hear the words of the mighty V-GINY! | „ |
~ V-GINY's most famous quote |
V-GINY is the main antagonist of the Futurama episode "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela". It is an intergalactic "death sphere" that destroys planets it deems offensive by covering them in black goo that then causes the planets to explode, thus "censoring" them.
It is voiced by Chris Elliot, who also portrayed Hanson in Scary Movie 2.
Overview[]
V-GINY was created when in 1998, when the Federal Communications Commission's V-Chip satellite collided with the United States Air Force space craft Flying Destiny. Along with the physical merger, the missions of the two spacecrafts converged as well; it set out to destroy all content it deemed offensive by covering it with black goo that then caused the offensive material to explode. Eventually, it began destroying entire planets it found offensive for their violence and adult content.
By the time of the episode, V-GINY had destroyed Planet XXX, Poopiter, and a planet whose name could not be mentioned in polite company.
In "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela"[]
As V-GINY continues to destroy every planet in its path, it sets its sights on destroying Earth as punishment for its "smutty ways". President of Earth Richard Nixon sends Turanga Leela of the Planet Express and Captain Zapp Brannigan on a mission to destroy the death sphere, but it fires black goo at them after detecting Leela muttering "Holy crap!". Brannigan and Leela's counterattack weaponry is useless against V-GINY, which sends them spinning off into space.
They eventually land back on Earth, although Brannigan briefly fools Leela into believing that V-GINY has destroyed the planet and they are stranded on an alien, Eden-like world so she will have sex with him in order to "repopulate". The rest of the Planet Express crew eventually finds them, however, revealing Brannigan's scheme and provoking Leela into beating him to a pulp.
At that moment, V-GINY appears and tells the crew that witnessing Brannigan and Leela act as Adam and Eve has given it hope that Earth may yet be redeemed. He then orders Leela and Brannigan to "consummate" in order to repopulate the planet. Brannigan is hesitant, as V-GINY's large guns make him feel inadequate, but Leela strong-arms him into having sex so she can get on with her day. Her Planet Express crewmate and boyfriend Philip J. Fry begs V-GINY to censor their lovemaking, but V-GINY declares it "approved for all audiences". It then flies away.
