~ Description of Vaas's Pirates in the survival guide. |
Vaas's Pirates, also known as the Pirates, are the secondary antagonists of the 2012 first person shooter Far Cry 3, and appear in the Far Cry Experience.
The pirates are homicidal criminals who traveled to the Rook Islands out a lust for money, and only came to the island to rape, pillage, terrorize, steal and murder without consequence. The pirates are under the command of Vaas Montenegro, and are the first group of enemies Jason Brody encounters on the north island.
Biography[]
Background[]
Not much is known about the extremistic pirates, but most of them didn't originate from the Rook Islands, but from other countries who traveled there out a lust for money. Wanting to rape, pillage, and steal, the pirates were put under the command of Vaas Montenegro, who was the right-hand to the kingpin Hoyt Volker. Though a majority of the pirates were from different countries of origin, some members were defectors from the Rakyat in one side-mission.
The Pirates also hold a grudge against the Rakyat, presumably due to them fighting against them and preventing their continuing oppression, or from Vaas's hatred for his sister and the Rakyat's leader, Citra Talugmai-Montenegro. Additionally, the Pirates had an unsteady alliance with Hoyt's Privateers, who were better equipped and properly trained in weaponry and equipment. Despite having weapons and vehicles, the Pirates have lower quality weapons and equipment than the privateers, are prone to firing aimlessly into bushes, and are less perceptive when searching for Jason.
The Far Cry Experience[]
Vaas's pirates make an appearance in The Far Cry Experience, assisting Vaas in capturing innocent civilians and the celebrity, Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
Far Cry 3[]
When Jason Brody and his friends skydive to Rook Island, Vaas and his pirates kidnap them, and decide to extort their parents for money but still sell them into slavery. Jason and his older brother Grant escape from confinement, but the latter is murdered by Vaas while the former escapes. Jason is then mentored into fighting for the Rakyat by Dennis, and the pirates fight against Brody across the north island and their outposts. During his journey to find his brother Riley and his friends, Jason encounters the pirates while Vaas is his main target.
When Vaas is killed by Jason, the alliance between the pirates and the privateers is broken, and the two factions battle each other since Vaas is no longer leading them. Though the pirates can be encountered on the north island, the privateers become the main antagonist faction when Jason focuses on eliminating Hoyt. After the events of the story, the pirates are presumably disbanded due to lost of leadership in Vaas, being eliminated by the privateers or the Rakyat, or the remaining members left the island for their country of origin. Remnants of the pirates can be found on the islands, however, as they are seen scouting areas.
Trivia[]
- There is a possible easter egg of pirates paraphrasing Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski, with some pirates stating "You are in for a world of pain!"
