What the hell is wrong with you, Billy?! Have you forgotten about your daughter?! You want equality? Then make those bastards know the pain of losing a child!
~ Vadim defying Billy and threatening to shoot Anya

Vadim is the secondary antagonist of the Red Circus Arc from the Spy × Family series. He's a Red Circus terrorist who, alongside his leader, Billy Squire, hijacked two Eden College school buses during a field trip, with Vadim driving the bus containing the Cecile Hall students. After Billy begins hesitating, Vadim begins planning blowing up the bus with rigged explosives before the SSS's strike force stormed it and arrested them.

Appearance[]

Vadim is a short man with black hair and a moustache, he wears a shirt under a sweater and a coat, he also wears glasses.

Personality[]

Much like his fellow Red Circus members, Vadim is also a political extremist who despises Ostania's upper class and its oppressive government. Contrary to Billy's more calm and calculative demeanor, Vadim is shown to be much more trigger-happy and homicidal in his actions as he begs for Billy to threaten to execute the children to the authorities and later decides to destroy the whole bus as soon as Billy begins questioning his own actions. It was also part of his original plan to drive the bus inside Berlint's State Council building in order to kill even more people, showcasing that he has no qualms with putting others' lives (and even his own) on the line for the sake of sending a message. He's also shown to be midly emotionally manipulative, as he frequently brings up Billy's deceased daughter in order to convince him to go further.

Biography[]

Before the hijacking took place, Vadim disguised himself as a bus driver in order to infiltrate Eden College's field trip. While driving the school bus full of students from the Cecile and Wald Hall, Vadim drives straight ahead on the museum, giving his partners a chance to enter the bus and hijack it. Upon taking all the kids hostage, Vadim keeps driving straight ahead through the streets of Berlint until the bus gets intercepted with a spike strip and surrounded by the city police. Now with the police and the SSS on the outside, threatening to storm in, Vadim tells Billy to toughen up and to tell the police that if they don't comply, they'll begin executing the students one by one, to which Billy refuses, instead opting to stall the authorities and let the kids' parents pressure the government.

Later that evening, Vadim starts getting impatient. That is until the SSS reveal that their other hijacked bus had been already supressed and that their comrades were dead. Desperate, Vadim begs Billy to not give up just yet, saying that this isn't what his daughter would have wanted. By reading his thoughts, Anya finds out that Vadim had already given up on counting on Billy and was planning to execute their emergency plan, which was to blow up the bus with everyone inside. In his thoughts, Vadim laments that he couldn't ram the bus into the State Council building, deciding instead to time the blast to blow away the strike force after they begin to storm inside.

Martha saves Anya from Vadim

Vadim's defeat

Seeing the imminent danger of the situation, Anya decides to take upon herself to stall the storming of the police by asking the terrorists for more food. Seeing the young girl's resolve, Billy gets reminded of his daughter and has a crisis of conscience where he decides to let Anya free. Anya, however, refuses his offer in order to stall him further. Seeing Billy's wavering morals, Vadim begins questioning his actions, pulling out a pistol and threatening to kill Anya, saying that if he truly wants equality, then he should make them know how it feels to lose a child. Billy, however, calmly disarms him and walks out of the bus, surrendering himself to the authorities.

Shocked at his boss' actions, Vadim decides to betray him and decides to flee the scene by driving the bus, but is quickly intercepted by the police's armored vehicles. Vadim then grabs Anya and exits the bus, using the little girl as a meat shield. Before the police can shoot him, however, Becky's servant Martha jumps in and tases the terrorist midair, saving Anya in the process. Now incapacitated, Vadim is quickly arrested alongside his other fellow Red Circus terrorists.
