Varallon is a major antagonist of Ultraman Blazar, the 33rd instalment of Tsuburaya Productions' Ultraman franchise. He specifically serves as one of the main antagonists of the finale three-parter.
Varallon is a space kaiju who was sent by the V99 after their other two attempts to eliminate humanity failed.
Personality[]
While Varallon appears to just be a wild, savage kaiju on the surface, it displays a cunning and planning side, quickly adapting from being set off-course from his attempted landfall on Earth by switching its plans to instead use the Moon as a makeshift asteroid to collide with the planet using its organic bombs. When SKaRD and Ultraman Blazar go after it on the Moon it ambushes them and quickly incapacitates them while also stealing part of Blazar's power to increase its own strength and evolve into a second, stronger form that allows it to leave the Moon and travel to Earth to complete its objective all on its own.
Biography[]
The Third Wave[]
Finally done with sending the lesser waves after the defeat of the Gebalga hordes, the V99 aliens sent Varallon towards Earth. The bombing kaiju approached Earth and came ever closer to the planet, with its presence getting closer the planet's natural defenses, kaiju such as Deltandal and Taganular, increased their activities and attempted to obtain enough energy and build up sufficient power to destroy Varallon before it could make landfall; unfortunately, SKaRD and Ultraman Blazar misunderstood their preparations as attempts to attack cities and procceeded to wipe out most of the Deltandal and Taganular leaving only two specimens of the latter species alive, who were only spared when Blazar and humanity figured out the true goal and targets of the kaiju who unleashed their full-power beams on Varallon, and with some assistance from the humanity and Blazar were able to upset Varallon's path and send it towards the Moon, but Varallon still managed to reflect the Taganular's beams back at them, killing the last two, before recovering on the Moon's surface and preparing itself for the final battle.
To achieve its goals, Varallon planted various organic small bombs on the Moon to alter its course with enough explosions so it would crash on Earth. After planting the bombs, it was confronted by SKaRD in Earth Garon who led a mission to stop it and its plans, however Varallon intercepted the mecha and quickly incapacitated it, forcing Gento Hiruma to transform into Ultraman Blazar who battled Varallon. Despite Blazar's power, he was quickly overwhelmed by Varallon who eventually succeeded at offsetting the Moon's path and almost made it crash into Earth before Ultraman Blazar stopped it by pushing it back into orbit; this gave Varallon the chance to bite down on and drain Ultraman Blazar's power to evolve into its second form which utilized stronger versions of its organic bombs to both escape the Moon's surface on a piece of the surface's debris and seemingly kill Blazar (who used the last of his strengths to send away his human host, Gento and the incapacitated Earth Garon back to Earth) ; with its foes defeated and stronger than ever, Varallon finally reached Earth ready to achieve its goals once and for all.
Upon reaching Earth, Varallon commences its attack by wiping out a large portion of Tokyo and planting several bombs to set Earth off-course and annihilate its biosphere. While Earth Garon and Blazar were recovering, Varallon kept its attack going despite meeting resistance and bore witness to the arrival of the V99 alien fleet (known as the Fourth Wave) who intended to aid it further. However, the V99 ultimately stood down and gave up trying to destroy Earth after Emi helped GGFJ forces stand down and avoid harming the fleet to let them know they didn't want a repeat of the V99 incident. Despite this, Varallon didn't stand down and continued its fight and attempts to destroy humanity and all other lifeforms but was finally thwarted when Earth kaiju from all over the world began to devour its organic bombs before they could blow up and later on was finally destroyed by a full-powered Blazar Beam from Ultraman Blazar, putting an end to its reign of terror once and for all.
Trivia[]
- Although the V99 gave up their attack against humanity and ended up choosing peace, Varallon continued attacking in an unstoppable manner, indicating that the V99 probably never had control of the kaiju sent to Earth and were just using them as uncontrollable weapons.
