~ Vanessa wanting to be part of Wilson Fisk's criminal life. |
Vanessa Marianna-Fisk is a major antagonist in the 2015 Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series Daredevil and one of the two main antagonists (alongside Kingpin) of Season 1 of its Disney+ continuation Daredevil: Born Again.
She is a wealthy art dealer and the wife of powerful crime lord Wilson Fisk, who took over his criminal empire upon his arrest and attempted assassination by the hands of his protege Maya Lopez.
She is portrayed by Ayelet Zurer.
Personality[]
Vanessa is a wealthy art dealer employed at the Scene Contempo Gallery in Hell's Kitchen. Although she has a charming, flirtous nature with her customers, they mask a hidden cunning side within her, something her fiancee Wilson wasn't aware of. Upon meeting Wilson, Vanessa was cautious of the man to the degree of bringing a concealed firearm for her own safety. However, after their first date was interrupted by one of Fisk's lieutenants, she opened up to him and began to trust him more, going as far as to give him the gun.
As their relationship continued, Vanessa learnt of Wilson's past and motivations, to rebuild Hell's Kitchen in a way that justifies his cruelty. She helped him overcome his fear of his father whom he murdered as a child, and stood by his side publicly as he declared his intentions to the citizens of New York.
After she was poisoned in an attempted murder orchestrated by Gao and Owlsley, Fisk attempted to send Vanessa out of the country fir her own safety, something she stood her ground against as she wanted to rule Hell's Kitchen by his side. Ultimately, Wilson was exposed in his racketeering scheme and was arrested by the FBI, forcing Vanessa to flee to Europe, but not before he proposed to her.
When Wilson's name was cleared, Vanessa was able to return to the United States. Unfortunately, she landed herself in the middle of a war between her fiance and Daredevil. Daredevil intended on using FBI Agent Ray Nadeem as a witness to all of Wilson Fisk's crimes since he was arrested, which Fisk was working around the clock to prevent. Wilson intended to keep Vanessa out of his criminal life to spare her, but she begged him to be a part of his life fully. Allowing this, Vanessa's first suggestion exposed her cunningness as she wanted to have Nadeem murdered by Agent Poindexter to prevent his testimony.
The day following Nadeem's murder, Wilson and Vanessa were to be married. However, Daredevil leaked to Poindexter that Fisk had someone close to him murdered, leading the two of them to interrupt the wedding. A three way brawl broke out in Fisk and Marianna's penthouse, as Poindexter tried to murder Vanessa. Ultimately, he was crippled, and Fisk was beaten by Daredevil, who made a deal that he would go to prison or else he would expose Marianna as the one who ordered the murder of Nadeem.
During Kingpin's absence after being attacked by Echo, Vanessa took the reigns of his criminal empire and showcased master tactical wit and criminal networking, growing the organization even further and more prosperously than her husband. It is during this time that although she much prefers to to find peaceful and less interruptive ways to settle serious matters, she can be just as ruthless as Wilson, orchestrating the murder of Foggy Nelson and even gunning down her former extramarital lover in cold blood.
