Vanhemar is a minor antagonist in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings appearing only in Act 2 of The Path of Iorveth. He is the personal mage of Nilfgaard and a member of Shilard Fitz-Oesterlen's group aimed at destabilizing the northern kingdoms.
Biography[]
Vanhemar's past is unknown, it is known that he trained his apprentice Cynthia where he keeps her on a leash. Vanhemar was assigned by the Emperor to Shilard Fitz-Oesterlen's delegation to cause chaos and deterioration in the northern kingdoms. Vanhemar sends Cynthie to Verden during the siege as Phillippa Eilhart's apprentice, where she is tasked with ambushing Triss Merigold, causing Triss to turn into a Statuette. After Cynthia managed to get Triss into the statue where she delivers her master by going to the other side of the Ghost Nebula.
When Geralt was captured by the Nilfgaardians where he is transferred to the Nilfgaardian camp where he meets the Nilfgaardian ambassador Shillard with his personal magician Vanhemar. Vanhemar knew that his brought Triss hidden in the statuette so he searched Geralt who was unaware that Triss was in his pockets where he then manages to find it. After Geralt found out all about Nilfgaard's plans, Shillard orders Vanhemar to kill Geralt and moves to Loc Muinne on a ship with the Triss statuette.
