Patience Sprag. Killing requires patience.
~ Ven'kra Tel
Flat, flat, flat... I make shiny bugs flat.
~ Sprag

Ven'kra Tel and Sprag are minor antagonists in the MMO third-person shooter Warframe.

They are a pair of Grineer sisters tasked with the protection of Void keys, vital to the raiding of ancient Orokin towers floating in the Void for their advanced technology. Following Narmer's conquest of the Origin System, the sisters were enslaved by their brainwashing Narmer Veils and used as guardians in their outposts.

Appearance[]

While they are genetically identical, like most Grineer, and batch sisters, the only thing Ven'kra Tel and Sprag share with one another appearance-wise is their facial structure and the jetpacks they carry on their backs. Ven'kra is clad in blue armor with an open helmet and carries a sniper rifle as her preferred weapon of choice. Sprag is more heavily modified, wearing red armor with large shoulder pads and swings a hammer bigger than herself, as well as having a prosthetic nose.

Personality[]

The two sisters have very contrasting personalities. Sprag is a very simple soul, speaking only in brief, stilted sentences and rather single-minded in her desire to "crush shiny bugs" with her hammer. Ven'kra meanwhile is more well-spoken and intelligent. The Grineer may be clones and call each other brothers and sisters, Ven'kra Tel and Sprag share a close and loving bond with one another. When one sister is killed in battle, the other will mourn their loss and seek retribution from the Tenno.

Later, after being freed of their Narmer shackles, Sprag's first concern is finding and saving her sister from Narmer's clutches and is more willing to thank Kahl-175, even telling him that she thinks he should be made a Kuva Lich for rescuing her sister. Though Ven'kra Tel is overjoyed to be reuinted with her sister, she is far less grateful to Kahl due to his status as a deserter.

Biography[]

Gate Crash[]

With the threat of Councilor Vay Hek's Balor Fomorian fleet looming over the Origin System, the Tenno received aid from an eccentric merchant called Baro Ki'Teer in the form of information regarding lost Orokin technology stored in the derelict Void towers. If recovered, these "Archwings" could allow the Tenno to fly safely and quickly through open space and fight against the Balor Fomorian menace.

Unfortunately, Vay Hek also learned of this technology and made efforts to destroy any traces of it before the Tenno could get their hands on it. To do this, he had his Grineer use Torsion Beam Devices to force open Void portals to invade the towers. Hence, before the Archwing fragments could be analysed and reconstructed, the Tenno set out to destroy the Grineers' access to the portals. After hacking the Void gate controls from inside the Orokin tower, the Tenno were transported to a Grineer outpost, with the goal of finding the key the Grineer had used to establish a connection to the tower. When they found it, they also discovered that the Grineer were well aware of the potential sabotage attempts and had removed the key, sending the two elite soldiers to protect it in a nearby encampment.

The twins fought as a pair, Sprag attacking the Tenno head-on with her massive hammer while Ven'kra Tel remained in the back and provided fire support with her sniper. While their armor proved resilient enough to ward off most Tenno weaponfire, the jetpacks they carried did not. With both sisters defeated, the Tenno were free to grab the key and return to the Torsion Beam Device, using the key's unstable power to their advantage and fled through the Void while the machine detonated from the overload.

Eventually, the supplies of Void keys that the Grineer had were exhausted and the Tenno safely uncovered the Archwing fragments they needed to attempt reconstruction, something that would soon save them all when Vay Hek's fleet was ready for deployment.

Break Narmer[]

When the Sentients returned to the Origin System under the leadership of former Orokin noble Ballas and the Sentient commander Erra, they swiftly overpowered the dominant forces in the system and eventually succeeded in conquering it in its entirety, establishing a new empire by the name of Narmer. Any and all residents of the Origin System that didn't go into hiding were collected and forced under the hypnotic spell of the Narmer Veils. Ven'kra Tel and Sprag had such masks forced upon them and were separated from one another.

Ven'kra Tel was positioned on one of Narmer's Murex prison ships and Sprag made to guard a former Grineer outpost on Earth, which was retrofitted for Narmer's use. Even when Ballas was killed, the Veils remained active and the Archon Pazuul took over as Narmer's leader. However, Ballas' death did lead to many people being able to escape their Veils, among which was the former Grineer soldier Kahl-175. He decided to dedicate his life to taking down Pazuul and what remained of Narmer, personally launching covert operations against their installations.

During his sabotage attempts, Kahl came across Sprag and used a makeshift device to break her mask and return her to her senses. Recognizing him as a lower-ranked Grineer soldier, she ordered him to find her sister, which he refused as he was no longer loyal to the Grineer Queens. However, he still believed that nobody should suffer under Narmer, so he stated that he would help Ven'kra should he find her. Indeed, he found and fought her later on during a Murex raid. Sprag implored her sister to fight the Veil and regain reason, leading to a joyful reunion when Kahl shattered her mask.

Sprag was grateful for Kahl's help, but Ven'kra Tel was less enthusiastic. As he was now a traitor to the Queens, even just talking to him could get her executed. However, while she refused to thank him, she told him that if the order to hunt him ever came, she would give him a warning beforehand.

Trivia[]

  • Renok, the hammer wielded by Sprag, is based on the kanabō, a type of studded club typically used by samurai.
  • During Warframe's early days, the game's bosses were simple reskins of regular enemies albeit with custom weapons. Ven'kra Tel and Sprag were two differently colored Heavy Gunners with the jetpacks of a Hellion.
