Venli is a major character in the Stormlight Archive, by Brandon Sanderson. She is a Listener scholar who worked to discover new forms for her people. She ends up being tricked by Odium into summoning the Fused who possessed most of her people.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Venli was born to the Listeners, a group of Parshendi living in the Shattered Plains. She was the daughter of Jaxlim and the sister of Eshonai. She took a mate named Demid. She became a scholar, learning about the ancient songs of the Listeners from her mother. When they discovered the humans, Venli learned how to create a writing system.
A human named Axindweth gave her a gemstone, containing a Voidspren named Ulim. She was able to use Listener songs to learn new Forms.
Stormlight Archive[]
A Herald named Nale told her about Gavilar Kholin's plan to reawaken the Fused. Nale told her to purchase Szeth. Once the war with the humans started, Venli worked with Ulim to discover new forms. Eventually, she managed to discover Stormform. Eshonai ended up using Stormform, which made her more aggressive. Eshonai convinced the other Listeners to adopt Stormform. The Listeners ended up summoning the Everstorm, which brought forth Odium and the Fused. The Fused possessed most of her people. Eshonai was killed in the Everstorm and Ulim directed Venli to take her Shards.
Odium and the Fused forced her to tell the Singers that the Listeners willingly sacrificed themselves to Odium. At one point, Dalinar Kholin tried to negotiate with her, but she refused. Later, she swore The First Ideal and bonded with a spren named Timbre, turning her into a Surgebinder. TImbre managed to capture Ulim, allowing Venli to appear as though she still had a Voidspren. She then told the Parshmen the truth about what happened to the Listeners.
Raboniel took Venli with her when the Singers conquered Urithiru. Venli ended up killing a human soldier there. Venli became the VOice of Raboniel, and carried out her orders. When she discovered that Rlain was a captive, she convinced Raboniel to release him. Venli managed to protect Kaladin's family, and freed Lift in order to heal them. Raboniel told her some Listeners survived in the Shattered Plains.
When Kaladin and the Radiants battled the Singers in Urithiru, Venli and Rlain helped protect the humans. Venli escaped with the humans out of Urithiru through the Oathgate. Venli managed to reuinite with the Listeners.
