Verad Kalon was a Trill villain introduced in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Invasive Procedures".
He was portrayed by John Glover.
Biography
Growing up, Verad had entered the initiate program and became a candidate for joining. He was later dropped from the program. Jealous of successful candidates and desperate to experience joining, he briefly stole the Dax symbiont from Jadzia Dax, briefly becoming Verad Dax. Verad was stopped by Benjamin Sisko, and the symbiont returned to Jadzia, who remembered everything Verad and said and did while joined to Dax.
Following this Verad was sentenced to a year and a day at Gheryzan Hospital's mental wards. A year and a day later he was declared "cured" and allowed to leave. He abducted the joined Trill Duhan Vos, then stole the Vos symbiont and had Duhan admitted to the hospital under Verad's name. Learning the joined trill Bethan Roa had taken human drugs that dissolved the symbiosis he used those drugs to allow other unjoined Trills to experience joining themselves by temporarily joining them with the Roa symbiont. His operation was uncovered by Jadzia's sister Ziranne Idaris, who had herself joined to Roa and admitted to a hospital on Trill. Jadzia was alerted, working with her sister and Benjamin Sisko Verad was captured and delivered to the authorities. Roa was liberated from Ziranne and sent back to the Caves of Mak'ala to recover.
Verad surfaced again in 2376, now believing that the unjoined majority of Trills were being oppressed by the symbionts. Working with a neo-purist movement he worked to unleash a virus to kill all the symbionts. When he was stopped by the Enterprise crew and Ezri Dax, Verad committed suicide before he could be taken into custody again.
